PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP Training Camp Day 8 - July 31

It's a walk through and they might just be giving him some added reps to help him catch up a little.

But if we take where they slotted him at face value it would seem like Hollins and Boutte are 4 and 5 in some order. Bourne gets pushed a little closer to the bubble and guys like Polk, Baker, and Chism now have to pass both Bourne and Hollins to make it. Boutte certainly still isn't a lock but so far seems to be in the top group and performing.

Still wide open battle but that seems to be where it stands right now.

Yeah and one or two could end up on IR.

This is not an issue.

I really don’t know if they will keep a 3rd TE in their top 53. Nobody has made a name for himself. Plus, they may keep more WRs than usual. Diggs, Douglas, Williams, Boutte, Bourne & Hollins, that’s the probable top 6. Then you have Baker & Polk. Thats 8, I wouldn’t be surprised if 7 of them make the 53 man roster.
This is just me, but I don't get the reasoning to keep that many WRs. Most plays have 2 to 3 WRs on the field at a time. I get not wanting to give up on Polk and Baker and even Bourne, I guess, but I'd rather see us get a FB to help in the run game and make sure we have enough depth at CB and on the oline rather than keep 7 WRs. We always think our lower WRs are at risk of being plucked, but frankly they're not that good and there are plenty of not that good WRs available in the NFL.

How do we know “they’re not that good”? We know what Bourne is, Polk, Baker and Chism are TBD at this point and have a month to show what they can be. Maybe they are no good, but maybe they aren’t. Don’t know how you could say definitively one way or other today.

No issues just some good competition. For me at least other than the obvious Pop, Diggs, and Williams I'm rooting for them all about the same may the best receivers win. I'm sure others have their binkies or guys they've written off but I think there are reasons to have hope for any of them and plenty of time for them to prove themselves still.

Every year people suggest the team will be made up entirely of WR’s, then it never happens.

5-6 WR’s max will make the team. I can’t recall any time in my decades of watching the Patriots that 8 WR’s made the roster. 6 was a lot and that included the likes of Matt Slater who clearly wasn’t a WR.

Should be 5 maybe 6 max.

They came out of camp last year with 7 and that was unnecessary.

We also kept 4 QBs Brady’s Rookie year and that almost never happens. Every year is different based on the strengths of certain positional groups. Not saying we keep 6//7 WRs, but it’s possible.

Trivia question, who were those 4 QBs Brady’s rookie year?

Just from memory I know Brady, Bledsoe, the next two, a combo of Michael Bishop/Huard…maybe Rohan Davey?? Long time ago.

Has Bourne and Hollins separated themselves from the Polk's and Baker's of the NFL?? One can't live off past accomplishments in the NFL which stands for Not-For-Long.

Pretty sure that Huard was still at Miami or somewhere Brady,s rookie year.
Bishop for sure was #2 (at least in the minds of posters in 99 LOL)
So, yes think Davey was the #3.

Young WR's with upside save Teams a lot of $$$$ they can spend elsewhere. Our WR's are Ranked in the 30's for some time now.

I would still say living off past accomplishments is still better than no accomplishments.

Can't judge a Young player off one year with abysmal Coaching to boot. I hope they don't give up on Polk and Baker this year. If Harry and Bony Thornton can get three years Polk and Baker can get two.

If Diggs is 100% and Douglass is effective in the slot, with Henry at TE, the other outside WR should have a ton of opportunity to produce.
No doubt. So let’s hope that the winner of the Battle of Mediocrity can be at least average.

Nothing about Bourne is hard to replace: he doesn't play ST's and he's not fast - quick or sudden. Hollins I don't know what to say he has so little to go off.

That's the thing about WR's. If you go to ANY camp you will find at least 2 or 3 guys who have flashed several times that fans are excited about and yet are fighting to make rosters like Boutte, Baker, and Polk etc. EVERY camp. There are simply THAT many talented WR's out there ... and there will be 20+ more next year
