That may help, but it was the Steelers OL that was the main reason for this. There were clearing Grand Canyon sized holes for the RB's. In the 2015 opener against the Pats, the Steelers OL were blowing the Pats DL off the LOS with ease. The 32 year old D'Angelo Williams was jogging his way to 127 yards at 6 yards a carry. Bell also need A LOT of touches to pad his stats.

Once Bell left the Steelers, he was shocked to find out his couldn't do the feet shuffling thing he did previously. When the blocking wasn't up to par like it was with the Jets and teams made him think quickly, he was dead to rights. The most overrated player of the 2010's.

Yes. Steelers didn't want to pay him, so he sat out the year. Got his money with the Jets.

And he’s under contract. I don’t think he can sign with anyone else while under contract to the Patriots. But you are right, if they release him they will never get him back.

I’m not conversant with nuances of NFL contracts, so this is not gospel, but I think while he’s under contract he’s on the roster.

If the Patriots want him on PS instead of the 53 man roster they have to waive their rights to his contract which would free him to go to the CFL, unless some other NFL team claims him off waivers and puts him on their 53 man roster. If no other NFL team claims his contract off waivers he would be free to negotiate for any NFL practice squad or go to the CFL.

At least that’s how I understand it. If someone else understands NFL contracts better and wants to correct, please do.

Anyway, bottom line is that if he doesn’t make the Patriots 53 man roster there’s a really good chance he ends up elsewhere, not on the Patriots PS.

Any other team can claim someone off a PS so long as they put him on their own 53-man active roster.

I've got high hopes for Chism. However I don't put any stock in these workout videos. Guys can easily look great without pads and with no defenders around them.

When he shows he can perform at a high level with NFL defenders draped to him, then I'll get hyped. Can't wait for training camp and preseason to start so we can see Chism show off his skills against live competition!

Marcus Jones has the ability to play offense, but I feel his defensive value will be of more use to us.

The same debate was going to happen with Hunter if he had fallen to us. How much to use him on offense and how much on defense, and the answer is he would have been heavily used on one side and only lightly if at all on the other side. NFL requires specialization more than dual threats.

Don't get me wrong, having a Troy Brown who can occasionally play nickel in case of injuries is nice, but that's not the main case usage.
