A Different View On Our Three starting WR's (presuming health)

Don't understand why you people are writing off Bourne. He will be much better this season. 2 years removed from his ACL tear.

I would add Javon Baker in the Fast category; though he's not Kyle Williams Fast! not many is.
I found it odd Blankumsee was put in that category over baker. Baker posses elite speed.

Hollins was on the field for 67% of the Bills' offensive snaps, even though he was sixth on the team in receptions in a high-powered Bills offense. It was his complementary skills that kept him on the field.

I think Polk can end up replacing him with his better long-term upside. Polk looked great in his rookie preseason, but was overwhelmed trying to slot him into a number one role.

My ranking for our receiver running blocking skills in our heavy power run offense.
1) Hollins
2) Polk
3) Williams
4) The rest suck

Chism will be a better blocker than all of those listed other than Hollins.

Ring, answer me this? Hollins played with an all pro QB, and excellent OC in Brady, no one at wr stepped up. He had plenty of opportunities last season in Buffalo to be me productive. Why only 383 yards? Just trying to get a perspective on him. Thanks.
He is who he is.
But also part of production is how you are used.
People think receivers run routes and the qb sits back there watching all of them and picking out who he wants to throw to.
That’s not how it works.

Every pass play has a combination of routes that work in conjunction and the QB has progressions. If you are the first progression the play is designed for you to get open, the other routes complement yours and try to create space for you. If you get open you get the ball.
If the primary route isn’t open, the qb PROGRESSES to the second route, then the 3rd, 4th, 5th.

Let’s use Wes Welker as an example. Welker was often the #1 progression. The reasoning was that he got open quickly, which gets the ball out fast and also if he isn’t open the other routes have that time to develop.
Welker had more targets than Moss every year they were together except 07. If the play designs had Welker as the 4th or 5th option all of the time he never would have produced much of anything despite his ability.

So the there is a lot that goes into how stats are created and what they tell you, none of which is fully explained without watching the film.

He actually had most receiving TDs last year (5). He was their WR4. Also a lot of his receptions went for first downs.

Thank you. That's a great stat. You have to ask though. With him on the roster the team traded for Cooper and he was a non factor. I would have thought Hollins would have been more productive with Allen.

FWIW sorted by age...

It's amazing to me to see posters calling a wr in KB making 5 million overpaid.. I could give a **** personally about a player's salary.. as they don't ever see the end of most contracts, and most live post NFL life with CTE and a myriad of physical pain. I'm always for the players to make as much money as they can.

That amount doesn't make a dent in the salary cap this year or next. People act like $ is coming out of there own pockets.

Could not have said it better Zuma. Like really!.. .. he's a leader, guys been productive under Josh. He's great energy for the team. He looks great from watching his off season training. He's what 29? Hollins is 31.. if they want to make the analogy of keeping a young guy over a veteran I'd think Hollins would be the guy on the outside?

Yep. The 2nd oldest player on the team can't practice because he' still suffering from a major injury from 2024. He better heal-up if he is going to use his best skill....blocking.

Exactly. . I will keep mentioning that he hasn't practiced all OTA. While that's all good he's here and mixing with the guys. He was signing to be a contributing player. Also when he was signed it was prior to Diggs, drafting Williams and the emergence of chism.

Mike isn't shy about cutting guys he signed if they can't produce. At the end of the day I don't care who is on the team as long as they are productive and help us win.

02/03/25 Signed TE Giovanni Ricci
04/28/25 Released TE Giovanni Ricci

That's what it comes down too.. I never thought I'd see so much discussion on a wr.. that no one was clamoring for in FA..

It also comes down to a game of numbers. Older vs younger players, id imagine coaches take in the whole body of work from OTA to the last pre season game to make final determinations.

I will be looking for who starts on the first team offense and who ends up staying there by camps end.

I hope so.
All I know is when we traded for Moss I never asked the question as a fan..was he a great blocker.. aside from the linemen all players have to block on offense to a degree. If you're known more for blocking than caching balls and scoring TDs you're probably a role specific player.

How do you not?
He's a third round pick who has a long way to go before he's a starter. Diggs, Pop, Bourne, Hollins, and Boutte are a head of him until he proves himself.

Don't understand why you people are writing off Bourne. He will be much better this season. 2 years removed from his ACL tear.
Not writing him off. It's just more serious competition than he's ever faced. I think it might boil down to Bourne vs. Boutte.
Boutte was better last year and has a connection with Maye plus he's younger.
A healthy Bourne is a good wr. But Boutte as of today is clearly ahead of him.
Boutte would return more in a trade, that's one thing Bourne has going for him.
But this is the 6th wr spot. I don't see either getting utilized as much as any of the top 5.
This also assumes Polk doesn't make it.
