Can we run the rock...5 weeks to find out. The offense will click if we got a great running game. Can't wait to see the fullback. Once we establish this McDaniels can teach Maye to audible to run plays or blitz protection and hot reads...

He's also the only WR with a real chance of making the roster who's over 6'1".

I totally agree. He is 6'4 and has pretty good route running skills and can possibly do better jump ball against Cb2 or linebackers. He brings a skill set nobody on the team has. I would put 4 as locks on this roster now. Only way Hollins does not make 53 is if he is injured . He would be a nightmare to defend .

Diggs, Douglas, Williams and Hollins are lock

Boutte - 80% lock
Chism / Bourne - 50% probability as sixth

Baker - 10000% cut
Polk - PUP or cut. No way he makes the team . Let's move on.

Maye’s gotta make a jump for NE to compete. He had flashes last season, but by limiting mistakes & getting in sync w the plays / teammates, there could be some noise being made in the AFCE.

Really hope he is the one.

The second coming

A few points on what I have read

1. running these shorts and T-shirt practices tells you little about how things will go when the real hitting starts. These sessions are to install offensive and defensive schemes and plays and to start the team building process (which has a long way to go). EVERYONE looks good and engenders a lot of optimism.

There are 31 other teams with fan bases that are drooling over team's prospects and additions. Everyone in the league "improved" this off season in the minds of their fans. BTW- That's not a bad thing, but we should try and keep some perspective at this point. There are probably guys who will be key contributors to this team that aren't even on the roster yet. Anyone have a UFL binky to nominate?

2. With 90 people on the roster and only 53 roster spots, there are at least 37 people who are fighting for their professional lives. I keep saying that ALL these guys are good football players because the competition is FIERCE every year. Every year there are draftees and FA's that want your job.

3. I will be very interested to see the level of full padded contact that we will see in camp and in joint workouts. In my day there were 2 padded practices with full contact all throughout TC. Those can remember the ferocious hitting we used to see down in RI and Bill's early years. Camps also ran 7 or eight weeks, so you had at least 70-80 practices and 4 or 5 preseason games before your first game plus you were only playing 12 games. Now they only have 5 weeks of practice and about 25 30 practices and 3 games and joint sessions.

I think it's a combination of the size of the investment that you have in your players that makes them want to limit risk to the players and STILL every season a dozen or more key players are lost during TC. Owners don't want to see guys they are paying 8 figures to, on the sideline. It's also a product of the physics of the game. Bigger players who run faster simply make more violent collisions

However, the lack of contact and limiting of practices make for a poorer quality of football, especially in September/October. IMHO. Tackling is a lost art. Every year I see more and more players just throwing their bodies into the legs of opponents with their heads down and not using their arms. who knows if you put your face into the chest of a ball carrier and wrapped, you'd probably get a penalty.

And now I'm just late night ranting so I'll stop.

Polk should be put on IR. That's the best thing for him as far as this season is concerned . He can use it to get strong, improve mental aspects and come back later if there is any injury .
Knowing the history of Patriots Young WR's in year two; that wouldn't bode well for Polk's NFL future.

Hollins, seam guy i.m.o, never had alot of production, nothing over 700 yards a year. Red Zone I hope, not a Moss type. KB shot is right there. Beat this 31 year older out. KB knows the McDaniels system.

37? Maybe you mean 53 on the roster and 10 on the practice squad, so 27 cut?

Sound like Pop ready to take that next step and that the EP is going to be good for him!

Yeah, Douglas is the big beneficiary of the swap to the McDaniels offense. He’s a “slot” but he can also be deployed in the “Z” at times depending on formation or matchup. Realistically, many of their WRs will play slot and Z, with only a few guys going over to X (Hollins for sure, Williams likely, perhaps Boutte since he played it last year with some success)

Also Bourne who had some success in the slot during his 800yd season

I thought Ef-ton and Hollins both played special teams.

Boutte still has practice squad eligibility, I think, so they might hold onto Bourne and stash Boutte, but I think Bourne has to prove he can do it in camp or Hollins is the new McD favorite.
Yeah a guy who could be a poor man's S Diggs?? I don't think so; he's better than the rest.

You could be right about them playing special teams, but I am not sure.

I think Boutte could probably make it to the practice squad. He had some nice plays last year, but I think people overrate his production a bit. Like 1/5 of his yards and one of his three TDs came against the Bills' third stringers. And his attitude issues will scare off a lot of teams. I just don't know if he is good enough for Vrabel and McDaniels to put up with his attitude issues. But with a new coaching staff, he could have a change of attitude. Although he had attitude issues at times in college.

If Bourne can return to his 2021 form, he is a better receiver than Boutte. He can be a far more productive receiver than he was in 2021 with Maye over Mac.
