Celtics 2024-2025 Discussion

That was posted in jest. That would be a crappy Finals.
Ah gotcha. You’re definitely right from the league’s perspective, I actually think it would be a pretty good series though

Nesmith was my binky back when he was here. ****ing love it for him to do what he did last night.

We all had high hopes for him when he was drafted. For whatever reason he just couldn't find his shooting touch here. Brad and Co had nothing but good things to say about him. I'm glad hes doing well and roasted the NYK

There wasn’t much patience they had with him to let him become more confident shooting. The window was already open and they dedicated minutes to the players they believed were ready. Understandable.

The Knicks local broadcast team is way more listenable than this disgusting fan boy pom pom waving from Kevin Harlan. Really hard to enjoy the game when this little ***** screams like a girl every time the Knicks score and sounds like he’ll cry when the Pacers score.

Tbh I watch other teams and think Joe Mazzula simply doesn’t need to make many tough decisions. He has five players who are good both ways, and his backups (Pritchard, Hauser, Kornet) are pretty easy choices to rest the starters. It’s kind of a no brainer rotation.

If you’re Tom Thibodeau, you have basically 7 players who get solid minutes. Your two best scorers (Brunson, Towns) are absolute dogshit on defense. Your best rim protector is a 30% FT shooter who can be targeted. Anunoby and Hart are average at best on offense. Bridges is the only player on the team who is a plus on both ends (but he isn’t elite at either.) And with Indiana’s depth and options, Carlisle is attacking every vulnerability. 11 Pacers played tonight.

Not a knock against Mazulla. The team is just pre-assembled with 2-way guys who should get as many minutes as they can, and they’re either going to either win or lose. The Cs could get a new coach but the lineups and strategy isn’t going to change much.

Calling a timeout / drawing up a play is a small factor in coaching compared to the rotational decisions a lot of other coaches need to make all the time.

The more I think about the Celtics' situation, I have concluded the following:
Tatum will not be available next season or not for the whole season, so the season will be a waste.

I want to keep Derrick White and Payton Pritchard.

I want to trade, Jaylen Brown, he is not worth the money. We could get many picks for him.

I want to trade Jrue Holiday, his best years are behind him. Not sure what we would get for him.

I want to trade Porzingis. He is not available when needed. Player & picks in return.

I want to trade or see Horford retire.

Hauser and Kornet would be traded as well

All these moves would allow the Celtics to bring in many young players and let them fight for a spot on the team and get ready for a new start for the 2026-2027 season.

Yeah I am leaning that way as well. I really like Brown, but thats what needs to be done. Basically just suck it up next year, get a really high lotto pick in addition to whatever you get for the guys you traded.

However it might be hard to trade all those guys since there aren't a lot of teams that can absorb those contracts.

I agree with most of these ideas. If there’s a big market for Brown, it makes a lot of sense to trade him. Agree on keeping Pritchard and White, unless there are incredible offers.

Don’t really agree on trading Hauser and Kornet. Still good to keep continuity if you can, unlikely to get much return on either of them, and their contract value is fine if they can get out of the second apron by trading some of the big contract guys.

Horford and Kornet are free agents and given their cap next year, unlikely to be brought back. There is a reason JD Davison was signed to a 2 year contract extension at the close of the G league season - he's cheap.

All depends who they trade.

If KP is traded they'll need big men at reasonable dollars.

If they trade Brown then they'll be a lottery team for sure.

Agree on moving Jrue and KP.

Kornet is a FA

Even with Brown next season, they will not make the playoffs, so they will be a lottery team. Don't you agree? A lottery team is a team that doesn't make the playoffs.
