Yes, definitely. I can't really get up for OTAs.. just shows us just how ****ty we've been and starved if winning football the last few years. Training camp is where the team actually comes to fruition.

OMG, that's it? That's what all the hubub is about? He just looks like an average OL.
I can't believe I fell for all the furor.
I guess the true test will be the sprints, the hill climbs, etc.

just look at the pics from last year, and you could tell he was not a round mound... he may not have been in the best shape cardio wise, but he wasn't obese

Surprised they were able to get another player in the shot. Onwenu is morphing in the wrong directing.

You are hereby forbidden to comment on linemen, your holiness, the High Priest of Vertical Routeness, beholden to all things WR.

He's listed at 350, and in high school and college he played in the 360 range.

He apparently has a $500k weight/workout clause in his contract. Onwenu said last year that his weight had stayed in the 350 range contrary to reports from Lombardi that he had gained a bunch of weight.
after Charlie Casserly and Wozzy, has anyone been more wrong than Lombardi?

Boutte is a good receiver. He’s ascending. First year meh, second year much improved and had chemistry with Maye. Unless he really ****s the bed in camp and pre season, I can’t see him being cut. He’s shown he has talent and can play in this league.
Not rare for Bill to ignore 1st year players on offense.
You either got everything right away, or you sat.
At least that's kinda what I remember.

Every offseason the same reporter insists some lineman is fat… even though they make their target weight for camp. It’s silly, but every year fans keep falling for it.

Just my humble opinion..We have to wait and see pape.. I'm not going to annoint guys roster spots or say guys won't be here until the big boy camp starts.. right now I can't get up for OTA all pros in shorts and T shirts.. that goes for all our unproven guys. We've seen this before..
It seems every preseason there is a player who gets a lot of run, especially at RB or WR who fans assume and insist will make the roster but who inevitably get cut. Cam Meredith, Bam Childress, Lynn Bowden … the list is long.

Fans forget coaches are often giving these players reps to keep their star players healthy and fresh.

What position does he play?
He plays everywhere. He never fails. He is king over time. He is the only guarantee. Father Time gets us all.

PatsFans especially appreciates Father Time as most posters are circling the .................................. Ask @maust - we are both engineers but he is much more articulate than me - I drink my cognac and invite Asian ladies over.

We are now stuck waiting till May 28th which i believe to be the next open OTA... Then June 2nd.

Personally i think all practices and OTAs should be open the selected media personnel. It isn't like they are going to share your playbook with anyone else.... plus they couldn't figure it all out anyway...
I don't agree with that at all. I think it should completely be at the discretion of leadership because of exactly what happened with the over reaction to Maye throwing picks in the OTA that the media was at. Then you have hacks out there saying this guy is out of shape and this guy (insert negative criticism) looking at you Greg ******

Agreed. In OTAs.. I've just learned to kind of temper my excitement because in T shirt and shorts, no tackling it's easy for guys to look like all pros.. we have a lot of guys in the WR room this year.. realistically likely 4 of them will be prime time contributers. As we also have to take into account we have 2 good TEs as well.

This team is improved, but there is not a lot of depth behind the starters, at least some of whom are likely - given the way these things go - not to pan out. This is going to multiply the adverse effects of injuries and of the predictable busts. I doubt this has been factored into the thinking of those predicting double-digit wins. I think this season will have a lot of ups and downs as all these projects and prospects find their way onto the field.

I don't think there is anything wrong with this, because I think a lot these newbies really do have sound upside potential. There will be some happy surprises, I think, to go with the unhappy ones. I expect improvement, but I don't expect miracles. In my mind, the team, aside from obtaining Drake Maye, made little progress in the Mayo year; and in the few years previous, with Bill's decline into weird, random incompetence, the team had fallen to the very bottom of the league rosterwise and culturally. Given this, even an optimistic take suggests that there is at least one more year of the rebuild-to-competitiveness, and maybe another year more before the team is a legit contender for the Lombardi.

If they win seven or eight games this year, I'll be fine with that. If they win double-digit games, I'll be surprised and happy about it, but I don't think it's reasonable to expect it. I am optimistic in that I expect genuine, significant progress, but there's still a lot to do. So we are about where we ought to be, and we haven't really been able to say that for while. So that's my version of "optimism."
