Wow. Had no idea he was only 50. Assumed around 60 and definitely would have been more inclined to believe so after seeing these headlines. Hope he gets well soon.

In Reiss's post saying he doesn't take care of himself. I bet his blood pressure is through the roof and he had a mild heart attack. Jesus.

heart attack or stroke?
will he miss the year? should he even think about coming back to the stress level of the nfl?

I don't think that's been revealed yet. Could be diabetes or something else.

So far it does not sound like it will cost him the year and I think I even read somewhere he wants to attend mini camp. Kind of sounded like he wouldn't be a full go yet but wanted to meet everyone and be involved.

Going by what ive read on here im going with either heart related or possible type 2 diabeties issures

Endless hours sitting a a desk littered with pizza boxes, donut boxes, McDonald's bags, Fanta bottles, "energy" drink cans (recall the pics of Fat Matt at his desk). It takes a lot of effort to carve out me time for exercise and healthy eating whilst meeting work demands of being an NFL coordinator. I hope he can find the direction and support to do it. His life depends on it.

Not looking great for the defensive side of the ball. Hopefully Vrabel has a backup plan in place.

This late in the off-season I'd think Vrabel is the back up plan. But it sounds like Williams is still planning on being our DC this year.

It seems there was doctor orders to not leave Detroit, I wonder if that's to avoid traveling stress, airports, carrying weight etc or something more clinical like not flying due do clots or something related to blood.

Might’ve wanted to stabilize whatever symptoms are causing alarm, and make sure meds are working as desired. Keeping him there until they’ve finished adjusting the meds makes a lot of sense. Also don’t know if he drove or flew. If he drove out for a reasonably long stay it’d be a full day grind driving home. If that’s what triggered his problems it makes sense to take some time before coming home.

I can imagine how hard it is to find the time with all the work they do. That said, being able to work out at some (more probable than not in our case) world class facilities would definitely make it easier. You’d think just being in such an environment (I imagine a lot of health nut coworkers) would be motivating.

Walk/work out 30+ minutes a day, drink water, no soda or sugar-packed “sports” drinks, no fast food, meal prep or Kraft can even splurge on having healthy meals provided for the staff year around if that’s not a thing already. Be consistent with these basics and he can take control of his health. Or don’t take it seriously, fight constant battles with medication/doctors visits and lose years of his life.

Jimmy Johnson followed the Heineken and nacho diet when he coached in Dallas. Not healthy. Crazy hours. Eating is to relieve the stress and boredom.

Two guys who bucked the trend were BB and Nick Saban.

Long haul truckers run into a similar problem drinking soda pop.

I think a Jets coach said Adam Gase ate pizza every single day. He also drinking a lot of coffee which might explain his weird faces he made during the press conference.

I feel confident that the Patriots would happily take care of staff nutrition needs of asked.

Not because they are kind or charitable (they are), but because it’s smart business to check an easy box to protect your investments.

They literally already have world-class chefs and nutritionists doing it every day…not a big deal to do it for a coach too.

Again, I’m betting they have offered it for years and so did Detroit. One has to make a decision to eat healthy themselves.

Ask me how I know lol.

To state what should be the incredibly obvious: Regardless of whether or not he's ever able to even coach again, getting his health better is paramount. That being said, I trust that if he can't return, I suspect that Vrabel will be able to get the Defense to where he wants it to be with clear improvement even this season regardless.
