Celtics 2024-2025 Discussion

Pacers take game 1, nice job by them. The inevitable Cleveland run happened in the second half and then they took care of business. Still think the Cavaliers take the series, but good start

Not a lot of chest thumping from Cavs tonight

Cavaliers are not going to win many games if the Pacers are scoring 120+ points.

Missed the Cavs game but was not surprised at the result. Pacers have been playing well.
I'm pulling for the Rockets now. Their players are just easier to root for than the GS Primadonnas.
I don't hate GS, not on the level of the Fakers but I don't like them either.
Speaking of the Fakers, wtf is up with their treatment of Jerry West, one of them classiest athletes youll ever meet and an alltime great. Plus Joe Mazzula credits West for turning his life around ad helping him to be the man he is today. Which is, a very solid dude.
West is a WVU alum like Joe. West has always been very involved in the Mountaineers program .Joe was floundering in his soph season and getting slack with his academics as well.
West reamed him out and as Joe put it, called him every expletive deleted known to mankind. He told him he was wasting his talent and his life.
Then he pressured Joe into spending a summer at West' house in LA. West would roust Mazzulla out of bed at 5am and get him working out and playing the highly competitive summer games at UCLA, which many nba players still do. Paul Pierce was a regular out there.
West has helped other WVU players but never has done as much as he did for Joe.
West said he saw something special in Joe, not so much as a player but as a young man. The tough love summer worked it's magic. Mazzula was a different human being after that.
Sorry for the long story and I've told it before but I really dig the story.
So.. wtf is up with the stoopid Fakers for treating one of their alltime greatest players like garbage?
The Celtics haven't and would never do that to any of their greats from Russell to Havlicek to Cowens to Bird to Pierce to Tatum and everyone else inbetween.
Thats why the Kings of the Mountain wear Green not blue and gold

My guess is Jrue and Hauser. Jrue because of his age, and Hauser because they've already got his replacement on the roster and looks as though he could be an upgrade. That cuts 38 million I believe.
This would be the most logical course of action. Jrue and Hauser are not center pieces to the championship run. The cheaper replacements are already in the wings with Pritchard and Schierman.

Losing Tatum, Brown, or White would knee cap our championship window. I think they still want to keep Porzingis if possible.

How are we supposed to judge Scheierman's passing ability when almost all of his playing time this year has been against the other team's bench warmers? Yes, he has made some crazy good passes. Yes, he has made some great shots. But he has not done that in clutch game situations. Most of his playing time has been during borderline preseason play.

Hauser has made some big-time shots, including in their last game against Orlando. Whether or not that translates to the C's keeping him at $10 Million next year is the question.

In the end, I do think this is it for this team. Win or lose, something has to change. I'm guessing Jrue & KP as the most likely candidates to leave. Big Al doesn't have a contract and is likely to retire. Kornet is a UDFA and will probably get some $$ on the open market. Next year is next year, but it's looking to be complicated, especially if they can't get another Center if both KP & Kornet leave.
If you lose KP, Jrue, and Kornet, you might as well mail it in for next year. I'd hope they have a better plan than that.

Hauser fits really well into the Celtics scheme, and his contract is solid value. The luxury tax / second apron is a different story.

He doesn’t create shots, isn’t really athletic, but he plays solid zone defense, passes the ball very quickly and is a great 3 point shooter. A lot of his flaws are covered up with the Celtics lineup. It isn’t that he’s really unique…some teams have a few players like Hauser, but the Celtics only have one. And if they were to trade him, they’d be hard pressed to find another 40% three point shooter for under 10M.

If Schierman can prove to be an accurate 3 point shooter, then yes. But so far he’s at 32%. Not saying he won’t improve (also a rookie and small sample size) but it’s a big jump from a below average efficiency shooter to an above average one, which is what they need to replace Hauser. Hauser is a career 42% 3 point shooter. That’s very impressive, even if he’s more of a specialist.

Edit: Read my post below about Hauser’s 3 pt pct and turnover pct. I don’t think the team should consider trying to replace him.

As much as I love Pritch's play & appreciate how much he's done to improve his defense, he can't hold a candle to Jrue. Jrue defends the other team's best scorer, not matter how big that player is, and often comes out on top. Pritchard cannot do that. Heck, not even Derrick White could do that in the Orlando series, as he was torched several times when he tried facing up Banchero.

I hate that this team is likely to change next year, but I do think either Jrue or KP will be on their way out. At this point, I'm hoping it's KP, as they've showed last year they can win it all without him. I don't know that this would have been true had Jrue gone down.

But enough of this speculation - let's go beat the Knicks and enjoy what we have now.

Two words- Jeanie Buss. Two sides of the story.

Ironically he hired Phil Jackson without her involvement and that pissed her off as she was tight with Kurt Rambis and especially his wife. Then once she started hooking up with Phil, he was very public about how he did not approve of the relationship. While Jeanie was vengeful, he had no respect for her. Jeanie had an issue with that.

When Pitino took away Red's title that was bs...

I don't see them losing both KP & Jrue, unless they somehow manage to work out a trade for a big-name center. Kornet is a free agent, so they can keep him, but with the year he's having, teams may come calling, making it much harder to do that.

Cava are going to have problems with Indy.

I think CLE will still win the series but Indy is not an easy matchup for them.
Me too. Cleveland had some time off and Atkinson mentioned how they have alot of guys to match up. Indy does as well. Cleveland will win the series by the interior match ups. Cleveland like us likes ball control offense Indy has to play fast of thier offense gets stagnant. However Indy is an impressive team that plays hard and is also a deep team littered with shooters. With this likely the last season the C's roster is all together I'd love nothing more than to win it again this season!

I think Hauser is under-appreciated. Since he entered the league in 2021-22, only two players have a better 3 point percentage (minimum 200 games), and there are many specialists around the league. For a specialist, the rest of his game really isn’t a huge liability. Think of how much we get gut punched by other teams when guys like Max Strus, Duncan Robinson, etc go on a heater when we’re locking down everyone else. It would be a big loss not having this type of weapon on offense. Although the Cs set a record for most 3s, they were 10th in 3 point percentage.

If you remove Hauser from the Celtics 3 point totals, they drop from 10th (36.8%) to 17th (36.3%) in the league.

Here’s another one…and I’ll admit this surprised me because I didn’t know this stat would populate as it did but had a hunch he’d be high. Hauser is a quick, decisive passer and knows how to avoid trouble. He plays in his lane. Using the same criteria, he’s 2nd in the entire NBA in turnover pct since entering the league. Perfect for Celtics since they have so many playmakers.

Hauser is the only player in the league who is top 3 in 3 point pct and turnover pct since 2021-22. I doubt anyone else is even close to the top in both categories. Ideal fit for the Celtics. Helps the team and also helped by the team. Not as garden variety of a player as people tend to think of him. He’s like one of those Efficiency Gods from Moneyball. Always has great advanced stats and on/off numbers and this is why.

Yes, I know Hauser isn’t the main cause of this last stat and it’s more about his teammates, but still, the fact is that the Celtics are actually at their highest efficiency with him on the court. Posting this because it’s a catch-all number and includes all the factors, including his limitations on defense and lack of playmaking, along with his positives.

I agree. Pritchard and Sheierman would have to increase their %s.

Read the next part I added to the post. It’s more than just 3 point pct. Reliability and safe decision making with the ball as well.
