Celtics 2024-2025 Discussion

I love it!... was wishing the NY/Detroit series went 7.. so guys can get more rest and heal more.. but.. we swept Knicks in the regular season.. they will want some get back.. they have much more offensive firepower than Orlando.. Brunson is a problem.. alone. If Jrue can't go this series that really hurts us.
Nah the Knicks aren't that good, and PP is filling in nicely. There really isn't anything to worry about.

Agree. I'm not worried about the Knicks. They may win a game, maybe two but we are the vastly superior and tougher team.

I hear ya.. but don't be to overconfident is all I'm saying.. this is a banged up Celtics squad. If Jrue doesn't play this series that's a big loss... not saying I'm worried just pointing out that this is the playoffs and we swept the Knicks they will want to avenge that.

Indy beat CLE 3 of 4 during the reg season w/ 2 of them in CLE.

Garland has a toe injury and its a long healing process.

I would not be surprised if we saw IND again in the ECF

Doubt it. Cleveland is a much deeper team and far superior on defense. Garland is always hurt nothing new. C's and Cavs in ECF...

It wouldnt matter from that regard. It -would- have given the Knicks (or Pistons) less rest, but the 2d round was starting on Monday regardless.

I definitely wouldn’t call this a banged up team. Jrue is the only guy who is really injured, and we’re fine giving PP more minutes. JB is at least 80%, maybe more. KP is playing fine. Every team has some injuries at any given time. We’re in trouble if KP breaks down again, which I’d say is probably 50/50.

I think Cleveland will win decisively, but I can see the other side too.

Jrue, Tatum, and brown are all ailing. As you mentioned "if" or more or less " when" KP breaks down again. NYK present different challenges.. Brunson of course is the catalyst.. PP can stay in front of him.. but we also need PPs offense as well. Jrue is important for us to get to where we need to go. Guys so underrated for everything he brings to the team. Towns is going to stress us on the perimeter. OG is playing well he has to be accounted for. This is the playoffs the.4-0 in the regular season means nothing at this point.

Garland played 75 games this year so hes been healthy. A toe injury is brutal playing hoop with.

CLE D is not that much superior than Indy. Indy allowed 3 more points but defend the 3 better and average more steals and blocks a game than CLE.

True. Cleveland as I mentioned is the deeper more talented team. They had the 1 seed all season. Indy without a doubt is good offensive team and well coached. I like Cleveland In 6.

Oh def CLE is the better squad.

Indy is a pain in the ass. If JB misses that shot and Halliburton plays, last year's series might go 5 or 6.

Your right. JBs corner 3.. what a clutch play for us that game. As a fan.. I just felt in my gut that we will see Cleveland In the ECF since about December when I saw they were for real. Hopefully we can remain relatively healthy and get Jrue back

So some thoughts about these playoffs. One of the first thing i look at when it comes to a NBA team is 'who is your big dog?'. Who is the guy that when all is said and done is going to carry this thing for you late in the game with a few minutes left in a tight one? Typically most NBA championship teams featured an all time player... Many of the ones that didn't featured a guy who is probably in the top 50 all time at least.

It is rare that a team wins an NBA title that doesn't have a current top 5 player. A team winning without a top 10ish is even more rare. With that said I made this little cheat sheet.

Out - Giannis, Doncic, Davis, Durant, Wemban, Embiid, James(if you still count him)... So the majority of the field is already out and we are only in the final 8.

In - SAG(OKC), Tatum, Curry(GS) Towns(Knicks) and Jokic(Nuggets) are the big names still in. Maybe Haliburton if you count him but i don't think he truly belongs in the '#1 on a championship team' conversation.... but sure I guess you can add him too (Pacers) if you want.

But some at the very top of that list are already gone which is interesting so early... some never even made it due to injury.

So the point being while this may be a harder path for the Celtics this year it is overall still not a particularly strong field. The talent in the NBA is generally more spread out right now, which is a good thing for the league. Less 'big 3s' winning every year is nice.

As a side note about this team right now.... I wonder what the plan is.... before last year they've only had 1 championship since the Bird years in the 80s... That is quite a drought for this organization. I really hope they are able to make the most of this window... but just as importantly... it be nice to not have to wait 20 years after it closes for the next one.

Great post.

For NYK, I think their guy is Brunson. Add Ant from MN to your "in" list.

Brunson is absolutely their alpha dog. KAT is a sidekick…it’s in his blood. Anunoby is easily their second best player and maybe as good as Brunson. He’s a hell of a defender and steps into his role offensively.
