McDaniel is a fraud. His run as wunderkind is over.
Agreed. Would love to sweep them this year. I can still see Waddle catching passes.. from last season... jerod rust era...

Yes it’s so nice not having a contrarian run the draft and for us having to defend it. Maybe now our picks won’t be laughed at by other coaches.

Likely won't be FB.. we signed one, UDFA.. we have a blocking TE already need someone to carry coverage and get downfield at TE opposite Henry. All these guys have clean slates... from last season.. don't want to get rid of misused guys for

Hooper. I actually like Bell as recieveing TE.. Hooper is an excellent blocking TE.. I just like to see the unheralded guys growm and have some NFL success.. we need to start doing more with guys that are already on the roster to build back up the farm system like we used to do. Or else we will be chasing each draft year. Just my opinion.
Hooper is not a blocking TE. Hes the opposite.

Wrong thread

Prior to the draft, Daniel Jeremiah and Dane Brugler got together to discuss mid round gems. I just went back to that video and Jared Wilson, CJ Dippre, Craig Woodson and Kyle Williams were all talked about. You can find each one by the chapters at the bottom of the video although Woodson comes under "we love the Cal DBs". Not a huge amount of content on each but interesting all the same. DJ really likes Craig Woodson.

I've honestly come to have a lot of respect for Brugler's judgement. Not just because it often mirrors mine. NGL though, that really helps
All joking aside, he's damn good

He's also really personable. He's one of my favourite pundits. Also, because he scouts The Beast, he probably scouts more prospects than anyone, and earlier than most. He's a particularly useful source at the start of a draft cycle where most other pundits haven't really done a lot of scouting.

It was satisfying. The year Belichick took DB Jordan Richards in the second round solely on his stellar character coming out of Stanford when he plainly lacked nfl athletic requirements—obvious to me watching him in the Rose Bowl getting smoked by Michigan State RB Jeremy Langford on the goal line for a TD—was the indicator that he had lost his mind as a drafter.

Best draft since the 1995 haul.

There’s also a sadness. If we didn’t have such an incompetent crank making the Patriot selections, the Tom Brady Era would have had EVEN MORE RINGS!

I can’t look at it that way. As I said in another post Belichick used a different model for drafting, one based upon filling every possible role they needed, and depth and versatility for every role. So it’s hard to say how much always having that depth and versatility played into wining all those rings, as opposed to a model that just took the best players available and figuring out special teams, depth, and versatility with those players. IMO this draft took the best players and addressed needs, but we won’t know how deep or versatile they are until they get hit by injuries and have to make do with what they have. It could work out fine, or it could really hurt, we just won’t know until it happens.

Yep. Not hard to argue that GM Bill held back Tom at times.

Unlike so many of the other talking heads Brugler never seems like he's spouting bullet points collected from other pundits takes nor does he 'marry' his previous assessments. His takes always come off as an evolving work in progress, which I appreciate

Can I give you reason for optimism and less skepticism? The past 5 season our issues were QB and coaching. We've got the QB position right, and got a HC and staff back in NE that has championship pedigree. The team addresses the biggest need at LT, added depth to the OL and depth to other areas of the team. This is a playoff team. Vrabel has been preaching winning the division is the first goal and the players have developed this mentality.
All good points. Maybe I need not be so cautious in embracing an optimistic view. A LOT is indeed very different this year as compared to recent ones.

Interesting

I wonder if they would have gone Savaniiaea at 38 and then Dylan Sampson at 77 or after a trade back?

Oh don't get me wrong.. we had a fake rebuild in 2021.. but this is legit under Vrabel the organization has been embarrassed the last few seasons and I feel like this is year we make some noise.

What is so impressive is they got guys that can be day 1 starters.. Campbell, Williams, Henderson, farmer... to name a few
This just reminded me of something I wanted to say. Farmer is such a great addition in a world where there is still uncertainty surrounding Barmore. I thought the DL roster was still a little weak if Barmore wasn't good to go. Farmer makes me less concerned.

Agreed, you root for those underrated guys like farmer.. the fact that he's already been here and developed a relationship with Vrabel and Milton Williams is immense. The guys is going to be a problem for Centers and guards. On Barmore all indicators are he's back to himself.. but we won't know that with certainty until he sees the practice field in camp. We have some good depth on the DL.. Tonga, farmer, Barmore, pharms, Roy,white, and some UDFA and and I'm sure we'll and another camp body veteran down the line.
