For someome who has been begging for an edge guy all night, I have to admit I am pretty impressed with what we picked up, especially the 2 3rd round picks. Saw some brief clips on Williams and while I can't compare him with some others who went right after, what I saw was ELECTRIC. He was uncoverable during one on ones I saw at the senior bowl. Relatively small, but 5'11 190 isn't small. Does have small hands, but so does Donald Trump.
You can't be too athletic and Wilson is all of that and more. EveryONE of our picks are uber-athletic so far and we have 6 more to go.
I physically winced after both trade downs, but in the end I think got decent value for the drop downs, and STILL got a potential future starter. I wouldn't be surprised to see have 2 picks in the 4th round and giving up one of the 5th's.
I hope we are done on offense, except maybe a TE, but we still need a FS, Edge, and IDLman. Now I have no delusions of finding instant impact players on day 3, but at least some guys who might be developmental players who might turn into starters in 2 or 3 years
cNow one last remark.
There has been much said about how this OLman or that one will be cut after today. No no no no. I still believe that guys like Robinson, Sow, Strange, and Wallace COULD be contributors on this team, because that is the beauty of competition.
Come late July there will be 15-18 guys battling for their professional live for just 10 roster spots. Nothing bad can come out of that kind of life or death competition. And make no mistake that it truly will be life or (professional) death. All the guys I mentioned ARE at risk and more. They know that in 3 months they have to be ready to fight to make this team, and to do this they better be working their asses off to prepare themselves for an EPIC battle of survival.
I think that is GREAT and will end up giving us the best 10 man OL group possible. Mike Owenu better not come back fat THIS year, or he might find himself out on his ass because some who worked harder came to camp ready to compete. I LOVE IT.
