The case for Jeanty at 4, Go for the homerun!! LFG

I'm not hearing the ceiling is too high for Campbell or other potential T's at 4. This team badly needs talent and can't afford to take a meh player at #4.

This is just a completely disingenuous take on Campbell, he’s the highest rated offensive lineman in the draft, he’s not “ meh,” you just don’t like him.

Not giving up on Sow. Had solid college tape and production. Showed really well at the combine and had a stellar rookie season.
What happened? I don’t believe in sophomore jinxes. 100% agree Dante would have helped unlock him. Have high hopes Marrone will too.
The coaching was abysmal last year across the board. A lot of players regressed. It will be interesting to see how they respond with better coaching this year.

No, what I'm saying is that you can't afford to take a player that is meh. None of the tackles have been mentioned as can't miss and aren't going to be mixed up with Tony Boselli, Jonathan Ogden, Orlando Pace, Tyron Smith, Joe Thomas, Trent Williams, etc.

This team can't draft a Nate Solder type player at #4.

Patriots tackles were overrated by how well Tom moved around in the imaginary box in the pocket.
As well as how fast Tom got rid of the ball and knew his outlets.
Maybe there’s a reason Tom made much better deep passes in Tampa than he was here.

They would of been exposed with just about anyone else at QB.

If you told me that Will Campbell would be as good at LT as Nate Solder was with the Patriots, I'd draft him at #4 and be very comfortable with it.
If you go back and watch his film with the Pats, you'll have a change of opinion. He was constantly chasing players after whiffed blocks only to have it go unnoticed because Tom got rid of the ball or moved around in the pocket. If you focus only on him, you'll see how bad he was. He got exposed in NY.

Matt Light always stood out in a bad way as he was constantly overmatched by the better rushers in the NFL. Weiss had to get creative in the early years by moving pockets (Carolina), quick passes and cut blocks against Indy because the OL just wasn't that good. When they had to body up against good to great pass rushers, they badly get beat. In fact, there was a game I was watching recently where Jason Taylor threw Light to the ground with one arm.

Matt Light overachieved by playing LT with less than stellar size and athleticism, many thought he would be a better guard. He still got beat by the best defenders and was probably overrated by the media simply because the Pats were an up and coming team and voters didn’t have Patriot fatigue yet.

Solder was a ten year starter at left tackle on one of the best teams in the NFL. Not sure how that’s overrated, especially considering how the Patriots rarely gave him help and left him out on an island more often than not. He was also a unique athlete that allowed them to pull from the tackle position, which you don’t see a lot. He played the latter half of the dynasty, otherwise he probably would’ve made more Pro Bowls.

There were a lot of Pats players in the second dynasty who lost out on Pro Bowl and All Pro nods because voters simply hated the Pats. There were also a lot of Patriot players who sacrificed individual glory for team glory through scheme.

Almost every team in the top 10 of the draft could use an upgrade at RB or have one ready for an aging veteran like Alvin Kamara or Christian McCaffrey. He could go as early as Jacksonville as they badly need a playmaker to help Bustville QB Lawernce. But I don't see him getting passed SF.

I don’t agree that Campbell or Membou are “ Nate Solder,” and I can easily come up with disparaging analogies for anyone you want to replace the Campbell pick with. That’s a very easy game to play. They can’t afford to draft a Ki Jana Carter at 4….., They can’t afford to pick a Jordan Davis at 4…..They can’t afford to pick a Kwity Paye at 4……

What if we stack the box on right side and add a fatty who can run as a tight end or full back and keep running jeanty through that -moses + onwenu + fatty + jeanty -- who can stop that??. On left side keep rham and Gibson and alternate between diggs and pop. The left tackle weakness will get diminished significantly as teams will try to stack on right side and we can quickly alternate to left side through screens or shovel passes . And as our LT gains confidence start to open up the game.

If jeanty is like saquon put me also on his train. Anyways we are not winning this season. Grab a second round and 3rd round LT and see how it goes . If we suck, we can anyways draft the Lt next year .

As for maye getting hurt, if we draft jeanty we are going to be a grinding team , So less chances of blindsided sacks. With the stellar defense , we don't need to be a high scoring offense . We can just tire the other teams out.

That is patently untrue. It’s a lazy take that people threw out there and lazy observers bought into.
The fact is that every top pass rusher did worse against light than against the rest of the league.

I've never heard people talk poorly about him. He's always been overrated by media and fans.

Uh no. But feel free to provide the receipt on that. He struggled badly within his own division alone against Jason Taylor and Aaron Schobel who routinely bullied him. They were his Daddies. It went unnoticed because both the Dolphins and Bills were bad teams. The Pats had to get creative against the better teams by literally moving the pocket against Carolina in the Super Bowl. How many times did you see him going at Freeney's knees on passing plays? They did it for a reason because when he blocked Freeney straight up, it wouldn't end well. They'd spread out the Steelers to avoid the zone blitzes and get early leads to neutralize them. It reared it's ugly head against the Giants in 2007.

Again, you are using the lazy argument. He allowed sacks to good pass rushers so he must have struggled against them and it’s simply not true. He allowed more sacks to top pass rushers than others, because, duh, everyone does.
The facts bear it out. If you want to dispute that bring your own receipt.

You got it 100% LFG
Dante agrees with me. He said do not pick an OL at 4, pick a playmaker
I can believe it, but can you post a link to where he said this, it would help a lot....gawd, Mayo cannot even lose when he needs to--this so complicates things. I think that the Pats should just take Campbell at four and be done with it. Jeanty had huge holes to run through; he is a blah to me. Campbell is the solid pick that will protect Drake's blind side for years to come and he is a big, young galoot to build a running game around. Boring I know, but solid.

We need to start spreading rumors about Carter (drowning kittens?, satanic cults?) so he drops to 4 and we can use him as trade bait

The coaching was abysmal last year across the board. A lot of players regressed. It will be interesting to see how they respond with better coaching this year.
And his OL coach his rookie year was Patricia, so it's not clear how much good coaching he's gotten in the last two years.

Teams destined to win Championships don’t settle for average players in the Top 5. The Pats need to find a stud, a game changer, if they are forced to pick at 4. To my thinking, there would only be three options: Walker, Warren or Jeanty. All three are impact players the other team will need to to gameplan around. If they draft Campbell and play him at OT, other teams will thrilled and gameplan to exploit his weaknesses.

Campbell at 4 overall would be a complete disaster. Better OT’s will be taken between 20 & 30.
