Let's go for the homer not a bunt single.
Most draft experts have him as 3rd or 4th best player in the draft and one of the few high probability blue chippers. Just heard Aron Rodgers say on Pat Macafee show that he is unbelievably put together and he thinks he will be a star.

Let's screw up some other teams' draft hopes.
I know all the arguments against and I do not buy any of them (rb is not an important position, he is too short, he will only last 5 years, you need a fully formed OL or he will suck, he was bad against Penn State).

Facts:

We can get a LT in top of 2nd or trade back into first, 2nd Round LT talent may not be much different than Campbell.
Giving Maye a dymaic offensive weapon like Jeanty who can carry a heavy load in running AND be a passing threat will open things up for our receivers and Maye.

BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE at 4...do it. There will not be many chances to get an all pro offensive weapon...take the chance.

Campbell- good guy, good locker room presence BUT this team needs a talent boost, playmakers, leaders. We should not be picking a possible guard at 4.

He is one of the top 4 rated players in the draft...take him do not settle for mediocrity. Take a risk
Jeanty will elevate the excitement level of the team and fans. Campbell will not...

Depends what Josh and Vrabel want for the offense. If we want a new Derrick Henry then sure let's get him.

Well that settles it, Sam The Whiner and Thunder The Complainer have the Pats top pick all figured out. Together they know at least as much about football and adult reasoning as a pig knows about Christmas. Someone had best fill out the draft card right f'n now.

Fact: You are a self indulgent putz

Why do people insist on sensationalizing every thought they have.

Yes, Jeanty should be considered. No it’s not a “home run instead of a bunt single”.
No, we shouldn’t be concerned about “screwing up another teams draft”
No, we aren’t selecting a player at 4 that is measurably different than Jeanty. Perhaps debatably better or worse. It’s not John Hannah vs Russ Hochstein.
And no we aren’t picking a LT at 4 that we believe is really a G.

If we don't trade down we aren’t getting “mediocrity” at 4; we are getting a very talented player.
Players don’t “elevate the excitement of the fans”; touchdowns and wins do, and blocking has been and always will be more important to TDs and wins than who the ball carrier is.

I know that posting “in my opinion we should draft Jeanty at 4” isn’t sensational but it’s really what you posted after everyone who reads it scoffs as the silliness you chose to include.

You got it 100% LFG
Dante agrees with me. He said do not pick an OL at 4, pick a playmaker

I'm all for it based on the evaluations I've read about him and the rest of the prospects. Really does seem like the BPA approach.

I understand the concerns about "what good is a RB without an OL?!?!" but this isn't a 1 year job here. Sure, I expect them to progress and improve annually but they're not going from in contention to the #1 pick to having the type of roster built the way we all want in one year. This isn't a team that's good enough across the board with just one weakness they need to plug. It's going to take most of this roster churning over for them to ever have real title aspirations and that will take a few years. You have to pick the talented players as they come. You'd love to do it in the order you like with the OL before the RB but by most accounts an elite OL prospect just isn't there this year but there is one at RB. So that's the hand they're dealt.

It’s not like we have any control over who they are going to pick. All I know is if they stay at 4 they are getting a really talented player. Whether it be Jeanty, Carter, Hunter, Campbell, Membou, Tet, Warren etc . One thing is almost certain. Whoever they pick is a step in the right direction and almost certainly an upgrade.

It’s not like we have any control over who they are going to pick.

So, you doubt Sam's ability to whine them into it? What if he does something drastic like holding his breath and kicking his feet?

I’d prefer to trade down, pick up another 2nd or 3rd, the take Jeanty. Use a 3rd with our 2nd to trade back in to take a T. But yes, I’d be more than fine with Jeanty.

The most impactful RBs IMO have always been those that can run and catch really well. If a team is good enough to stop your running game cold for whatever reason (happens often enough) then your star player doesn't become useless if they can catch. Also it is CRITICAL (for reasons I'll not go into.. but can be explained through math + down and distance + volatility per play + recovering from negative/net zero plays) that your RB's yards per touch be above 6 Yards total for them to be viable as a piece that can impact the game and not just look good on a stat sheet (and i do mean viable, not even impactful really) but you REALLY want at least 6.67 yards per touch (so averaging 20 yards or more on 3 touches). This can't be done unless they are a good runner who also catches often and for bigger chunks of yardage... typically above 8.5 YPC and getting above 500 yards receiving a year. Those TYPICALLY are 2 important data points i find.

I haven't done a super deep dive on this topic, but i'm 99% sure it is true and those are the key numbers from what I have worked out. Someday i'll do a big post with some research on it. But for now i feel confident saying it.

The point here is Jeanty doesn't do this. So i don't want him in the first round. I simply don't have a first round grade on such a player, period.

I was open to this until a pundit pointed out on a podcast that RB isn’t a wise position to pick high because the position has been financially devalued. #4 will be paid around $8MM/ yr…a RB would immediately be a top 10 paid player in the league so you don’t get the “rookie bargain” like at WB,WR, T, Edge.

Interesting nugget.

I think it would be much wiser to not take a rb with the #4 pick. That said, I’ll be excited if they take Jeanty. He’ll bring a lot of fun and excitement to the games. He’s a home run threat every time he touches the ball.

Jeanty’s film screams Laurence Maroney.

He’d also be the 3rd highest paid RB in the NFL if picked at #4. It’s not happening.

He does that anyway.
