2025 Draft Rumours (ie The Pinch Of Salt Thread)

They tried to trade for Maye. Now Daboll has 1 year to keep his job and he has to watch Schoen pick Sanders at #3? The guy isn't going to sleep until he's sure he's fired in late September. No wonder there were rumors they wanted to try and trade for the 1st pick. If they do pick Sanders at #3, his Dad will have Daboll's # on speed dial if he ain't starting. Daboll could get to 350 lbs by the 1st Game.

Schoen is a terrible GM.

In his presser yesterday, Vrabel sure as hell sounded like he’s a stick and pick guy.

One week to go.

Dane Brugler came out with his draft predictions today and it is NOT the direction I want the Patriots to go:

1. OT Will Campbell
2. WR Jayden Higgins
3. C Jared Wilson
3. DT Ty Robinson
4. RB RJ Harvey

Still on the board after the Higgins pick: Aireontae Ersery, Landon Jackson, James Pearce, Nic Scourton
Still on the board after the Robinson pick: Marcus Mbow, Charles Grant, Princely Umanmielen
Still on the board after the Harvey pick: RB Ollie Gordon, DE Bradyn Swinson, DT Deone Walker, OT Emery Jones, DTE Josiah Stewart

I like all those players other than Harvey. I can see the upside to him but I have questions about pass blocking and always bouncing runs to the outside. I really like Robinson but I don’t think we need him I wouldn’t object though because he was really productive. The first three picks are excellent.

I’d have gone Grant instead of Robinson and then Swinson or Stewart instead of Harvey.

My big objection is C Jared Wilson

Right now we have C Jake Andrews, C Cole Strange, C Garrett Bradbury, C Ben Brown, Lester Cotton

We have at least 3 guys already battling for the starting position and a couple of backups.

With a team that has so many holes? And a Tackle pick who will likely be shifted to guard? Seems wasteful. Rather reach for the next Tackle or take a Safety

I assume we’re not picking up Strange’s option so he and Bradbury are out of contract at the end of the year and the others are essentially JAGs. Wilson is a very quick footed athletic center who is just in need of experience. He’s arguably the second best center in the draft behind Zabel. As for Campbell he’s either the highest graded or 2nd highest graded OL in the draft. This roster needs talent.

At #4 there's a lot of talent, but if you're expending yet another pick on interior OL when you're picking at #4, after taking Mike Onwenu, Cole Strange, Jake Andrews, Sidy Sow, Layden Robinson & Caeden Wallace (who will be interior), not to mention to busts like Antonio Mafi and Chasen Hines, then you are just spinning your wheels.

They have to see what Strange, Andrews, Sow, Robinson and Wallace can give us before worrying about the interior OL with premium picks.

Otherwise you've neglected the rest of the roster.

Campbell is a LT. Or at least he will be next year.

Mara made a statement publicly that he wants to win now and wants their QB of the future to be on the team this year.
Now whether that could mean they feel highly of a 2nd round QB or a trade up back into the first for Sanders.
Bottom line is I personally don’t believe there is a franchise QB in this draft
Schoen and Daboll are definately on the hot seat
deservedly so

I agree with your previous premise about disagreeing with the Wilson pick.

But taking Campbell at 4 isn't using a pick on the interior. Its taking a tackle. I get that some people think a certain way, but if the Patriots take him at 4, it's clear where they are playing. Maybe down the road he ends up somewhere but in '25, the #4 pick is your starting LT.

But back to Wilson, I'm with you. You can grab a developmental center on day 3(Kendall or Monheim).

Bradbury may be mediocre but he's a huge step up from last years unit. Let that upgrade stand. Strange has the ability to at least back up there, and theres some unknown with Andrews. At LG, Strange has been solid when healthy. So has Sow. He was decent as a rookie but the ankle injury in camp set him back last year. With Marrone in the fold, he could step up. Im less optimistic about Robinson on the left side but its another talented body in the room.

Where Id be fine double dipping on the OL and having thst player play inside is if it was a tackle making the move. In the Brugler scenario, sign me up for Ersery. 1, he could take the job at LG. 2, he could develop under Moses. 3, his experience at LT if injury occurs to Campbell(or worse, lack of production) gives you a talented option. Im still uneasy with Lowe even being the top backup. I'd be fine with Grant in the 3rd in this scenario, as well.

Oh I agree we need tackles; just saying that at #4 you're gambling on a guy 50% of the scouts believe is a guard. If you want to trade back up a few spots for Conerly or Simmons, by all means do it!

I actually think most agree he's a tackle. You just hear some negative and it stands out. But, the only eval that matters is the Patriots. If he's the pick at 4, they're confident he's a left tackle. That works the other way as well - if they take Membou, they're confident he can play left tackle, despite some questions people have.

Last year they thought and stated that Wallace could play LT. Only a couple of people in that room have changed from last year.

He was high on the talent of Josh Simmons and Aireontae Ersery, but said this class of tackles is frustrating evaluators because other than Campbell and Banks, they all have character red flags that are somewhere between relatively minor and fairly significant.

Is there a character knock on Membou?

Well he also put terrible play out there for evidence, as if any more was needed. I dont think Marrone and Vrabel are going to come in and buy into the same ******** Wolf and Co thought last year.

I’m on the total opposite side of the fence regarding Wilson. This line needs to be upgraded with real talent. Dante is not here anymore to build these guys up into serviceable protectors anymore. You’ll likely never see another QB with Brady’s pocket presence to step and slide as needed either.

I’m all for getting as much help at center as we can and I’m a big proponent in early production, or at least a lot to work with in season 1 and 2 out of players. Right now it’s a pretty crowded room and I’m expecting a lot of dead weight to be cut. Let’s be honest, these aren’t Vrabels guys so the loyalty is going to be in what he sees with his own eyes.

The names you mentioned just aren’t NFL caliber. Ben Brown? Mr unreliable Cole I can’t stay healthy Strange? What has Jake Andrews or Lester Cotton done to sniff a starting job?

Taking the top Center in round 3 is not a bad thing to me but I get why it would depend on who’s available before you took him.

Personally I’m a big fan of Jake Majors out of Texas. I see him as a 5th round option but I’ve seen mocks go as high as the 7th or even ufa in some cases.

He's on record saying the roster would look drastically different by summer. Taylor Lewan said guys will have their head one a swivel. I agree with you that these aren't his guys, so there's a lot of expendable names.

With you on Majors, too.

As is pretty much everyone draftable at 4.
Not really. Look at the hit rate for some of these positions. WR and CB in the top 10? They've been money for a decade.

DE is 50%.

LT much less.
