Isn't The OL Already Much Better Than In 2024?

I expect that we will still add a couple of OL's, certainly a LT in the first 40 picks.
============
That being said, the OL won't be great, but it will greatly improved from last year.

We already have 3 new starters to play with Onwenu, compared to almost all of last year: Strange, Bradbury and Moses.

The OL that played much of the year consisted of Lowe, Jordan/Robinson, Brown, Onwenu, and Jacobs. Of course, for much of the year, they weren't all healthy.

Backups included Sow and Wallace and some scrubs.

Strange was available for a couple of games.
===========================
COMPARISONS
TACKLE
2024: an oft-injured Lowe, Jacobs, Wallace
2025: Moses, Lowe, Wallace (last two injured for much of last year)

GUARD
2024
Jordan, Robinson, Onwenu, Sow, Robinson
2025
Strange, Onwenu, Robinson, Schweitzer, Sow

CENTER
2024: Brown, Strange (for a couple of games)
2025: Bradbury, Brown, Andrews
=========
CONCLUSION
Our OL is already much more talented than last year, with 1-3 additions to come. A better OC, better coaching and better game plans should help a lot.
Better, but the biggest problem from last year is still unresolved.

Center: Strange. Bradbury as backup
RG: Onwenu. Robinson as backup
RT: Moses. Wallace as backup
LG: Sow. Andrews as backup.
LT: Draft choice. Lowe as backup.

The backups this year are better than the starters of last year.

We could get so much better with the backups through the draft. This wont happen, but wouldn't mind a total reset at LT and LG. I don't think we will draft a LG at all because we have no idea what we have in Sow, Andrews, and Robinson. Strange can play it if needed too.

NO

This was said for some reason last season. They are still arguably the worst group in the league.
Nothing has been proven that indicates the Pats OL is better.

The o-line got better when they added McDaniels and Marrone and Scar said he would consult even before they added any player in free agency. Much of the problem with the o-line the last few years has been coaching. Scar was able to give Brady consistent solid to great o-lines even when he had mediocre to average talent on it. Good coaching can hide a lot of talent issues on the o-line.

Considering what kept Onwenu from being drafted until the sixth round by the Patriots was his weight and acknowledging he has let it get out of control the last two off seasons, does any one else think he may be fat and out of shape?

Again.

Trading him if the new staff wants to send a message is a possibility.

Besides, I have more trust in Robinson at RG, his natural and accustomed position. Stop putting him at LG!

Yes. Simple instructions. Stability. Not needlessly experimenting like having Wallace at LT or Robinson at LG.

Hard to feel very good about the OL with an objective look.
We have a bunch of misplaced journeymen and inexperienced young guys who have moved all over the line.
It will take a "Marrone Miracle" to turn this collection of JAG's into a solid consistent 5-man line.

here's a new contract to reward you for your great play and to signal that you are a core piece of our future. Response: show up fat and out-of-shape. Alas, we've seen this movie before. If we can find someone to take him, do it now!

That’s not the adjective I’d use for the guy whose current weight as we speak is probably 375.

They need to do more and stay healthy… but yes.

He won’t be starting, or long for this team if he shows up out of shape, and I would bet Vrabel is making that clear to all of them. I pity the fool who shows up out of shape.

Oh yes, we're much improved, but here's the thing, we desperately needed to improve. Also we have plenty of room to "improve" and still suck donkey balls. We were bottom 5 in the NFL last year. We don't have to just improve. We have to improve significantly.

I mean, everyone here has functioning eyes to some degree, right?

Mike Onwenu signed his big contract, and came in fat and out of shape, and was fat and out of shape all year. Didn't matter what position he played.

We don't really have any journeymen, and the fact that the young guys have moved around the line is a good thing.

Right now we could field a line of Lowe, Strange, Bradbury, Onwenu, and Moses - all experienced starters (and decent quality except for Lowe's run blocking). For existing depth there's Wallace, Sow, Robinson, and Andrews. It's not that bleak - light years ahead of last year. Add a good LT from this year's draft and we're good.

It's very possible that Wallace, Sow, and/or Robinson could take a big leap this year, and I think Onwenu will have a rebound year. Marrone and Josh will also make a big difference. I'd like to see Strange at center and find a good internal or external replacement at LG.

The pats have locked themselves into a LT at 4 because they could not sign bridge LT during free agency.
They simply must come out of this draft with a reasonably sure bet solid LT, otherwise we will be slowing down Maye's development.
I do not think they can wait until round 2 OR bank on trading back into first.
This means they must either take their top rated LT at 4 or trade down into 9-10 and take best LT remaining.
I think the BPA strategy is a smoke screen and if both Carter and Hunter are gone by 4 (extremely likely)...they must come away with a highly rated LT in top 10 of the draft.

That probably means Membo or Campbell...but Campbell is the safest LT pick for where they are drafting.
They do not have the luxury of taking Jeanty or Warren...for this draft.

It is Campbell at 4 or Membou at 9

With either of these 2 guys the OL will be much improved next year and give Maye a chance to progress.
I strongly disagree.

We can sign a starting LT at 10-20 if we wish through trade downs or trade ups, or both. Both Simmons and Conerly could start for us.

In addition, a trade down to 6 or 7 or 8 might still get us Campbell.
=======
If we have Conerly or Simmons rated anywhere close to Campbell as a starting LT for us, we can trade down a couple of times, even for a couple of 4ths. A 3rd seems more likely.

"IS still unresolved'

OK, I agree. HOWEVER, it is virtually impossible for the team not to have better LT's than in 2024 WHEN THE SEASON STARYS.

Post when the season starts and we don't have better than Lowe and Okorafor at LT.

We could do 1-3 of the following.

1) We could draft a better LT in the top 10.
2) We could draft a better LT between 10 and 40.
3) We could sign a better LT between 41 and 64.
4) We could sign a free agent (maybe not better than Lowe, but as an improvement over Okorafor)

the current group will be better with health, scheme, QB play all better than last year.
adding Moses, potential #4 pick makes an improved group even better.
I think the OL plays better than expected if Marrone is any good, and Maye and McD are a good partnership
