Patriots Player Departure BREAKING: Joe Milton traded to Dallas

Ownership didn't make this decision. Milton is on a dirt cheap contract. Vrabel and Wolf didn't value Milton and the market didn't value him and they figured the return was better than keeping a third stringer they didn't think much of.
They hired and retained Wolf. They hired Mayo because the old man found him a charming travel companion. They kept Belichick after he had lost all interest in doing his job responsibly. They mouthed asinine happy talk when Belichick transitioned, with the Patricia/Judge fiasco, from mere self-indulgent petulance to outright pathology. They are more interested in keeping revenues up (and to a degree costs down), more interested in salesmanship, than they are in taking the medium-to-long view which which make an actual rebuild possible. They built a goddam lighthouse rather than a decent weight room. Do you really defend this as a record of competence?

The owner signs the check chuckles. The owner has ultimate power. Your break from reality and ignoring of facts doesn’t reflect real life.

You don’t know this happened.
Yep, it all starts at the top.

Does anyone think that it was Bill who dumped Antonio Brown? I don't. I think that was all on Kraft and might have been a reason Tom left.

I'm going to have to take your word on what that looks like.

That reminds me of a great joke I heard though.

Replacing Biden with Harris is like changing your shirt after you **** your pants - Rob Schneider
FWIW, I saw Rob Schneider do standup on a whim, and it was hilarious. Maybe the best I've seen (live at least). I had no idea.

34 pages on this and counting? Christ on a bike, is it really that big of a deal to some folk on here? Just smells like an excuse to lash out at the Pats, which is these people's default position on most things. Weird.
just shows how hungry we are for something "real" to talk about. This has included some good feuds and battles within it. The alternative is another O-Line thread.

We're big concert fans so I've seen a lot of them over the years. Carlin, Williams, Burr and recently Tyrus. I only saw Schneider online but damn he was funny. Now that you reminded me, I'll have to check to see if he and Chappelle are going to be around.

Hard disagree on this.

I don't think Dobbs wins that last game against Buffalo. He's cheaper than Dobbs, has a much higher ceiling.

Unless he was being a complete prick behind the scenes, this makes no sense.

And for a 5th round pick? wtf
The last game vs Buffalo?

Dude, they let us to win... Were more concerned with getting their punter performance bonuses than winning

Best move by the Cowboys since drafting Micah Parsons.

Jilted Steelers are upset. They would have offered more. So much more.

Since when do the wishes of the player’s agents trump the good of the team? Joe Milton got his wish.

As I repeatedly wrote in the sub forum for the draft a year ago, Joe Milton is even more physically gifted than the Colts’ first-round QB Anthony Richardson.

If he is that gifted, why on earth would you trade him to a team like Pittsburgh?

No team has EVER come close to the 20 year run of the Pats.
That was then. This is now.

Oh, that’s right. They were playing a relaxed game of touch football.

It was a really simple proposition. Trade Milton only for a first round pick. Period. Otherwise, keep him on board.

The Cowboys were never going to do it. But the Steelers? Maybe.

Time will tell on this lopsided trade. But be prepared to be ridiculed when Milton makes a big splash.

I believe Bob needed to take attention away from him with the massage parlor scandal and used Brown as the scapegoat.

However, BB told Brown to lay off social media and ignore the accusers, but he didn’t. The media exaggerated the situation after the painter incident and Bob (as usual) has to make himself look good. Also, Brown was guaranteed money after his 2nd game with the team, so it’s speculated Bob cut him in the event Brown got paid but then got suspended by the NFL.

Basically, yes.

Unless you think taking Josh Allen out after a series is them trying to win... Or the defense running rookies out there to get game experience is them trying to win...

This type of disconnect is exactly why patriot nation is in a meltdown over trading a third string QB who stunk up the joint when he played in the preseason against teams that were playing hard

That’s the thing though. If I felt Milton was fool’s gold I’d happily let the Steelers waste the draft pick and roster space on him. Realistically, the Cowboys offer was the best they got. I don’t buy at all this idea that they took a lesser offer from Dallas as a courtesy to him. If they had such reverence for him they wouldn’t have moved on from him so soon in the first place.

Better offers always come up after deals are done... some anonymous team exec saying "we would have..." but they didn't...

I think it's fair to say we received multiple inquiries into Milton's availability... and I would hazard a guess that wolf call all teams in play asking if they wanted to better the Dallas offer...

No one stepped up...

You wouldn’t, the two most common reasons you’d pass up a better offer is firstly to get him out of the AFC. If he turns into a quality starting QB you want him playing in the NFC. This is standard operating procedure for NFL trades.

The second reason that sounds logical is Bob wanted Jerry Jones to support his bid for the HOF. Again this sounds reasonable, Bob was willing to finance an entire documentary that was just an infomercial for his candidacy, so he clearly wants in before he passes.

Yeah agree.. I believe he was guaranteed like 200 million right?
5 years, $230 million…. But then they did the thing a couple times where they convert salary to bonus so they spread the cap hit out over the following 5 years.

That’s a great cap management strategy for someone like Mahomes who just ain’t going anywhere. But if Watson leaves the team after his contract expires next year (and I can’t imagine Cleveland extending him), it all becomes due.

The Browns can restructure again if they want but ultimately will have to take a total of a $130 million cap hit for him in ‘26 and ‘27 (assuming ‘26 is his last year in Cleveland).

You said “Who will understand their roll?”

Brady wasn’t happy with his roll as a backup, did you want to dump him too?

Obviously you want a backup who is happy holding a clip board & doesn’t want to start?
Except Tom Brady has more character in his pinky finger, than Milton has in his whole body. Brady was the consummate warrior & competitor from college through the pro's. Milton never showed any these qualities in his 6 college & 1 pro season.
