You make some good points. Drafted a QB 3rd overall and and believe Milton was someone who was scouted as a potential project who could be developed into trade assets. That's exactly what the organization did. On the kicker we moved on from Ryland who turned out to be a good NFL kicker. Slye struggled. Bick kicker nick folk was still worth keeping around IMO. But to your point yes definitely use it to take a kicker for sure. When you see the highlights of that Bill game, that Joe Milton is worth more than a low 5th. But Vrabel wanted him gone because Maye/Milton is not a good working tandem. That really should have been obvious a year ago before we drafted Milton. Most of us at the time felt it didn't make sense, and guess what it didn't.
But whatever, we filled a hole in our draft board. Draft a placekicker with the 5th and move on.
Rumor has it that Ladd McKonkey loves California.Vrabel did him a solid.
Then why would they do him a solid? It's more to this than we initially thought.. reports are coming out now of him telling the locker room he should be starting, ect.. likely there was dicension within the organization about him. Nothing wrong with being confident.. but dude... cmon..
The article said Milton thinks he should be starting. It was a horrible look when they out shipped Mac Jones, yet kept Zappe as long as they did.Ok, so “they” are Felger and Mazz. So, no credible sources. That video shows they took Reiss’s “QB room dynamics” and immediately translated it to “Milton is a total *******” with no supporting evidence or intermediate reasoning. And then they rambled on about the Zappe QB controversy with nothing to link any of it to Milton, but you took that as saying the QB room is worse now than when Zappe and Corky were at odds? You’ve been listening to F&M too much, that’s making **** up just like they do.
Absolutely correct. The draft is near and the team is focused on the off season program, play call installation, getting familiar with the roster. Draft capital is of the upmost importance in build back to being a contender. Vrabel knows full well how important this draft will be. The team did right by Milton and we got something in return.I just don't get all the hand wringing from some people (not necessarily just on this site) about this trade. Sure I was disappointed about what the Patriots got and I originally didn't think they should trade Milton for so little.
But really what is the guy? He beat the Bills third stringers with much of the Patriots' starting offense. It was a glorified preseason game. He shows a lot of promise, but he hasn't proven his ceiling is above being a solid backup in this league. Despite how we all think, I am guessing most GMs feel the same.
I wished the Pats could have gotten a 4th or even a 3rd, but they didn't time to move on. The Pats need bodies on the field who can make this team better. Ultimately, that fifth rounder may do the Pats far more good than Milton can.
Better yet, the joke I heard is, "Replacing Biden with Trump is like lighting yourself on fire because you **** your pants."I'm going to have to take your word on what that looks like.
That reminds me of a great joke I heard though.
Replacing Biden with Harris is like changing your shirt after you **** your pants - Rob Schneider
Milton asked to be traded someplace to have a chance to start.. Pitt, Cleveland for example have no QBs they could have traded him there.. the organization did what he asked for. Then why would they do him a solid?
I like the idea that I saw upstream about the Pats acquiring picks to make a move up.
This is a rumor. Also a 6th round pick in year two has zero leverage.Milton asked to be traded someplace to have a chance to start.. Pitt, Cleveland for example have no QBs they could have traded him there.. the organization did what he asked for.

They sent back a 7th, it has a 6th round value.Getting a 5th rounder seems fair to me. Not many 7th round draft picks will make a difference (plus we have two more), so no loss there and Joe Milton had no role on this team. Seems like a great deal for the Patriots. 5th round picks have move value, for moving up in the draft or for finding some late round talent. Not sure why people are so upset with this trade. I guess it is possible that there are better talent evaluators here on PatsFans than in Foxboro.
And like I said if the team believed there was a chance he'd be better than Maye he wouldn't be gone.Milton at 24 seems to be a decent game manager who doesn’t turn the ball over and can make some plays with his legs. Dobbs is ten years in and still turns the ball over, he’s not good.
The Pat’s didn’t want a distraction if Maye struggled. So Milton is gone.
I like Milton but he wants to be a starter.. that's not happening here. So he was granted a request for his opportunity. I hope he does well in Dallas. They sent back a 7th, it has a 6th round value.
I’d rather have the depth chart be Maye/Milton rather than Maye/Dobbs. Pretty simple.
The team is giving the job to Maye. What would be wrong with an open TC competition with MiltonAnd like I said if the team believed there was a chance he'd be better than Maye he wouldn't be gone.
If he's chirping about being a starter then he is already a distraction so it's understandable they'd send him packing.
Maye is already better than Milton at every aspect of the position, no need for a competition. The team is giving the job to Maye. What would be wrong with an open TC competition with Milton
