Drake earned it. Remember Drake wasn't named the starter initially he earned it and by week 5 he was. The team felt that between the likes of Brissett, Drake and Milton that Drake was the best QB.

Imo, the reason you wouldn't want to that is because if you want a true competition then you would need to split starter reps. I do not want starter reps split because that could limit Mayes learning pace. If you give Maye the majority of starter reps then Milton might view that as an unfair competition and increase his dissention.

There was never going to be an actual competition and rightly so, Milton was terrible in college and had a decent glorified preseason game. I think people are putting too much weight on that game.

Given Daks injury history it could happen. I like Milton as a project but he has not shown anything that would warrant being a starter. I forget which preseason it was but Danny Dimes looked great, very accurate made good read and decisions but then could not build on it. He was a much better prospect than Joe.

I am not saying that Milton can't become a competent starter but the odds are not in his favor.

The triple-option base play out of the Flexbone. I ran it either up the Midline, outside using the Speed Option, or against the flow with the Counter. Its a derivative of the old Wishbone. It has a fullback and two running backs set in the backfield directly behind the quarterback. The two backs flex out into the slot.

Players should always want to start and work towards that.

I don’t think Maye was afraid of competition, the coaches didn’t want the possibility of a QB controversy in the locker room if Maye struggled. Weak sht…
