It seems like all the prognosticators have us taking either Campbell (lacks length) or Membou (played RT exclusively), trading down to take Simmons (injury concern), hoping one of the second tier guys like Connerly falls (he won't), or taking a chance by over-drafting a Trapillo or Ersey. Someone is missing from the list.

Why is Kelvin Banks not on anyone's radar? He has the length, started for three years in a big school in a power conference. He is graded as a high level run blocker, which suits the McDaniels system. What is the problem with this guy.

I won't profess to know very much about college football, I'd love some more intel on the guy.

Not concrete information here, but I heard it’s because everytime the stadium music comes on he starts doing this…

That might be pure rumor though.

I believe the general consensus is he’s a solid but unremarkable OL prospect. There’s some talk about him being better at guard, which has been said for many of this years prospects.

On a serious note, think it was on the nfl networks first draft show or something where one of the analysts said he had a little rougher of a year than expected. Didn’t watch him much though.

I think it’s just due to how he ranks. He’s not a top 2 candidate and no chance he goes at pick 4. But he’s also not going to fall to the 20s where the Pats could realistically trade up to from pick 38. In order to him to be drafted by NE, they’d likely need to trade down from 4 fairly significantly.

I'll retweet this. I watch a lot of Texas last season. I think he was nicked up, but overall he was not as dominant as I had hoped he'd be. I think he's a first round guy still, but he's not getting the press that the others are. I really went into last fall really interested in Banks and Ewers, the latter just from a fan point of view. I think if there's a trade back opportunity, then it's whichever of the LTs are available you grab. Campbell, Banks, Simmons, or the project in Membou.

I think there's a real chance they take BPA at #4 and then go Ozzy Trapilo at #38.

Yup if we trade back he becomes an option. Also if he does fall into the twenties I'd consider trading up for him but unlike Simmon's knee there's no reason to expect him to fall out of top 20. I still think Simmons goes top 20 too.

Mind you this is a novice opinion. Banks has a tendency to lunge and does not always play with very good balance. He is pretty athletic but does not always mirror very well and seems pretty stiff in the hips.

In the four versions of Daniel Jeremiah’s top 50 ranking, Banks has gone from 19 to 24 to 29 to 31. His combine was fine and obviously no football has been played, so I’m guessing this is a case of Jeremiah subtly reacting to what he’s hearing from teams. We saw something similar with Keion White a couple years ago, dropping from 8 to 28 over the five rankings with no real explanation.

Might be a really good value opportunity if he falls into the mid 20s, the Pats could trade up for him without paying tooth and nail and still get a guy who can start right away.

I also think Banks didn’t okay as well as expected last year and it dulled his shine a little.

I think recent history shows us that trading back into R1 is more difficult that "us" experts think it is.

For sure, it isn't guaranteed. I do think Wolf probably learned hard lessons about that last year and to get firm commitments. That said, if you give back really good value then it becomes easier.

Agreed. I don't see any scenario where a team is looking to trade out of the first round all together.

Campbell doesn't lack length. I will go to my grave stating that. The experts will look at the tape and see he was one of the best LT in college, in the most talented conference in College football, and dominated the best talent in college football.

but, to your point...I think Banks is the second best LT in the draft and not sure why he has slipped down the rankings a bit.

TBH - even though I personally would rather take a guy like Tyler Warren at 4 if Hunter isn't there - part of me kinda hopes they do take Campbell just to see the reaction. And then watch the guy go on to be a perfectly good left tackle for the franchise for 10+ years.

Love Warren. He is a do it all TE

Draft as many potential OL starters as you can. With the hit and miss rate out there, we need talented bodies that hopefully will pan out.
