Patriots Player Departure BREAKING: Joe Milton traded to Dallas

Reportedly Milton’s agent was pushing for an open QB competition. If Milton is not better than Mayecat anything why not just do it, and put him back in his place riding the pine?

Unless…

Coaching staff does know more than we do, from seeing them both every day.

Maybe they know Maye wouldn’t easily eclipse Milton?

So, they bribe Dallas to take him off their hands. Problem solved.

Could be a missed opportunity. Steel sharpens steel.
That is the dumbest theory I’ve ever heard.

Ian Rappaport echoing exactly what I said yesterday.

I need my own GrilledCheeseSandwich style twitter account. This Savage guy is biting my takes.

Second biggest concern. Head shots from failing to slide are a bigger concern, because they have longer lasting consequences.
Someone definitely needs to not only convince him of that but teach him.

He kind of did, I remember Ty Law telling a story when Drew was still injured, after an away game a bunch of players went out to eat ( I believe it was Buffalo and they couldn’t travel back because of a storm) Brady told everyone at the table that Drew was never getting his job back. Ty said him and Milloy laughed and said you have to like the kids confidence.
Yeah I remember ty saying that... I think the difference here is Drake and Milton were both drafted the same year.. there was like a 7,8 year difference with brady and Drew at that time. Plus Drew had just gotten a new contract. Brady absolutely earned his keep and the qualities that were always in brady is what drove him to greatness..

Drake has qualities in him that can allow him to become great as well.. still so impressive that he was the only reason to watch games last year.

I disagree, unless they take someone with their last pick. Wasting draft capital on the QB position in this draft is insane.
1) Some posters think a #3 is worth a 2nd or 3rd.

2) Some think using a 6th is a good idea, always have a couple of backups developing.

3) Some think that QB's don't get hurt and that the #3 should be an UDFA.

We'll find out in 3 years if it continues to be a big deal to you.

In 3 years, it will be time to pick up Maye's 5th year option. Either he'll be great and have already have signed a long extension, or we'll be on the fence about picking up that option year, which would be disastrous.

Either Joe Milton will be a backup on yet another team, or he'll be the starting QB of the Dallas Cowboys.

It's all about performance now - none of it is conjecture, or potential, or wishes and hopes and dreams anymore. That's what Vrabel did with this trade. He absolutely did not have to do it, even if Joe Milton thought he was the best QB that ever QB'd, he's still under a cheap contract for two more years.

It might not *feel* like a big deal, but Vrabel made Maye the unquestioned starter with no competition going forward with this deal. That *is* a big deal, when you have competition already on the roster for basically nothing.
This will NOT be a big deal for me even if Milton is a starter in 3 years for Dallas.

I don't think that we should keep players on the roster, developing in the hope that someday he'll be worth a 2nd round draft choice.

Were you born yesterday?

Milton is better than Dobbs. You keep the better cheaper player.

So bottom line, got nothing for Milton, and now have to waste another late round pick in a young QB. It explains why they are talking to college QBs.
Our strategy last year and this year is to use a 6th rounder to secure a #3 QB with the hope that he will develop into a #2 after a year or even after two.
==========
We didn't get nothing for Milton.

In 2024, we drafted a QB in the 6th to be our #3 QB, with the hope that he would be a #2 in 2025. Milton showed very little in 2024, but Mayo would probably have kept him on the 53.

In 2025, the new coaching staff judged that Milton is not ready to be the #2 and secured a veteran #2.

In 2025, the new coaching staff decided to move on from Milton, getting the equivalent of a 6th back for this 6th round draft choice,

In 2025, I think that we will again draft a QB with this pick, expecting him to be the #3 and hopefully compete for the #2 spot in 2026.
========

But do the Patriots really think that they can get a better backup QB for a 5th compensatory pick? Good luck with that.

Personally I think it was a stoooopid, idiotic Patriots, err Kraft, move--why dump a proven, capable backup QB for the uncertainty of a late 5th? It is insane...unless Milton was a whiny b1tch in the locker room because he was not playing enough...
Blaming Kraft is simply wrong. Vrabel chose Dobbs as the #2 and doesn't want Milton as the #3.

You judge that Milton is a quality backup. One of Vrabel's early moves was to sign a backup QB. Vrabel simply disagrees with you.

Vrabel also judged that Milton is not a good choice for the role of #3, carrying the clipboard all year while he develops and learns our systems.

disregard, I read the earlier replies

By the way, and I didn't read all 29 pages... what did we get for Jimmy G? A 2?

I guess in our defense, Jimmy G got a way bigger showcase than Milton....

More upside than Dobbs? Certainly.

Better than Dobbs, though? Based on what evidence?
Dobbs is what we call a 60% completion guy, he throws 1 INT for every TD he throws, the one season he played max snaps he fumbled the ball 1-2 times per game.

Vrabel has a relationship with Dobbs, they were also nervous about a QB controversy if Maye continued throwing picks.

Dobbs isn’t good and they could easily slide him to the practice squad if they simply wanted a mentor for Maye.

Milton is better than Dobbs. You keep the better cheaper player.

better measurable, sure.....better NFL QB - nope

has Milton won a meaningful game since HS?

Wrong. Josh did not say that.

In it's purest form, EP is terminology, style, protections, routes, and QB responsibility. That is what differentiates it from other offenses.

Vrabel even said it's a foundation but not the same. Its evolved. Exactly what Ben Johnson did to EP. In order to stay current, Josh did the same thing.

Your knowledge is dated. I'm done trying to get you to get with the times. Do your own reading.

Again, you have no idea what your are even talking about lol. You are like the fake doctor who diagnoses people off of Web MD because you googled it. You have no comprehension of the EP system. Just stop already. This is so stupid.

From the Athletic and for our all-knowing resident, OC.

How they went about changing EP are highlighted

You are absolutely insufferable and hilarious. Its like you are telling your mechanic to change out the blinker fluid because you know there is a clunking noise in the spare tire. You truly have no idea what the base concepts are for EP. I already stated multiple times Josh is tweaking the system. Every year, JOSH TWEAKS THE SYSTEM. This is not new. He took a year out of football, learned new concepts, and is putting them into the EP system. The system didn't change. The equivalent of what you are saying is that Josh speaks English. In his year off he learned some language concepts from German and now uses a few words and phrases from German. According to you, Josh now speaks German. No, He still speaks English. Go back to Web MD.

Last year, cost us the #1 overall pick.
If you were Milton would you have gone out and tried to win or suck?

Milton thinks that he is good enough to challenge Maye so trade him away for 5th. Makes complete sense after smoking crack. Spend a 6th on Milton, combine him with a 7th to get a 5th in return.

I hope that Belichick is watching these guys in action. Oh, trading down in a few weeks is a given too.
