Going to Gillette for the first time this fall. Pending the schedule looking at either September or October. Any suggestions for the smoothest/best experience?

Get there early. The one downside to Gillette is that it’s not near the city so you don’t have multiple options to get to the stadium like some other places. That makes traffic a big factor.

Either tailgate or get there early enough to hang at a bar or restaurant until kickoff

parking/traffic are a nightmare

food inside is pretty lousy, booze is really expensive........there are options within Patriot Place that are marginally better in both regards

I like seeing the game in person.......but the Gillette experience as a whole is underwhelming once you've seen it, imho

How are you planning on getting there? Driving? Mass Transit?

as the others said, get their early.

If you tailgate, some tips... get one of those quick change pop up tents and bring an empty bucket - no waiting for bathrooms least for #1... bring chairs for everyone... having a table is nice... limit the alcohol - this is a been there done that type warning - ain't nothing worse than paying to see a game and not actually seeing a game cuz reasons... know what side of the stadium you are going to sit on, hats, sunglasses and even sunblock might be needed... know what gate you are entering... helps lessen the walking around...

make sure to pay $5 a head to go up to the Lighthouse viewing deck so you can gets a bird's eye view of scenic Taunton

I have traveled from out of state 3 out of the last 4 years to watch a game. Prefer parking along route #1 is like $50 but worth it. You get out of the parking lot pretty fast, PD knows what they are doing and will flush the lots in a decent time. You linger around or park in the free spots you may be waiting for some time. As everyone else has said get there early is the smart thing to do. Tailgating experience is always fun. Food is high in the stadium a couple drinks , burgers and fries for two will run about $40ish. While your there hit the pro shop early or day before that becomes a mad house game day. Also I usually stay the day before and do the museum tour and wonder around the stadiums outdoor mall and the Bass Pro Shop that's right beside the stadium. Go into Boston if you dare, some nice spots to check out and plenty of not so nice

depends how much money you want to spend. i go about 3 times per year from new york. i drive up the morning of and stay at the Renaissance Hotel at Patriots Place the night of the game. some stay the night before. i love it. but they charge like its the 4 seasons.

I'm a Foxboro resident so I sneak in and out through the back so I don't have much advice other than to say if you're willing to pay for the hotels that would seem like a no brainer. I've always wanted to try it despite my easy commute.

I'd also recommend checking out the Hall and Patriot place the night before too. I love the Hall of Fame it's very well done and if you look hard enough you might spot some of my father's stuff. (Hint it's in the very first room to the right. Some BB signed items next to a helmet from the game in Mexico).

If you're staying in Boston you can take the Patriots Express. It runs every game day.

Are you staying in Boston or maybe close to Foxboro? Have to figure out if you are going north or south to Foxboro. If you didn’t want to deal with parking lots then you could stay at one of the hotels at Patriots place but Bob doubles the price during the season.

Krafts parking lots on the other side of Rt. 1 are free but they are big parking lots with lots of cars.

Go when they aren’t playing. Really easy to get in and out of there.

You can always hang in the lot post-game and wait till the traffic leaves. Not sure there will be sell outs this season anyway.

Get a good look of the people behind you before the game. Are they drunk middle aged men who look like they're having a bad time? Some of the fans expect to sit on their fat asses for the entire three hours and will threaten you if you dare block the views to which they are more entitled than you.

People will hate on this, but it's happened to me three different times.
