Breaking New England Patriots Team News

Should Parcells have gotten in?

It's not about 30 years. It's about his worthiness to be in the HOF. His .500 record. His for all intents and purposes BEFORE the superbowl.

Parcells was excellent at BUILDING teams and he did it several times in his career. But what he couldn't do was the hardest thing for a HC to do which is MAINTAIN excellence and he certainly didn't do it here in New England.

I still maintain the hope that this is an April Fools joke. I do NOT want Bill Parcells in the Patriots HOF especially since Russ Francis still isn't.
He's a great personnel guy, one of the most overrated HCs in the NFL all-time

I voted yes.

Cataclysmic changes in the fortunes of this team occurred after Orthwein hired Bill Parcells.

Whether you like him or not, the foundation of everything good that this team has accomplished were laid by Parcells.

Meh, don't really care one way or another. I'd rather see a guy like Branch or Welker get in. I was not watching during the Parcells years so I'll defer to the old heads on this.

If he didn't pull that stunt before the Super Bowl I'd say he should be in, but he did pull that stunt.

There's a good reason that fans have voted 'no' to Bill Parcells getting into the hall not once, not twice, but five times.

Kraft just said he doesn't care what the fans think, and vetoed their votes.

But it is his team and not ours, so he so he gets to do whatever he wants.

TBH i'm on the fence with this one and always will be but as it pertains to the NEP, I would not vote him in.

First of all, what he did pre-SB is grounds for termination. I'm not sure I blame him for the loss to GB but his actions sure didn't help matters. Even BB said the team was distracted. I also think Kraft was still feeling his way around on how to be an NFL owner and even he admitted he probably would do things differently re: Tuna. Nonetheless, for this reason he should not get in.

On the other hand, fans might forget or not know how hopeless this franchise was from 1989-1992. It was beyond awful. I can't even describe it to those who did not live through it. Tuna and his credibility (and the decision to draft Drew) breathed life in this franchise and fan base. The Patriots mattered again.

My dad is an old school Giants fan thus I grew up as one in the 80s but the Pats were and always will be #1. The Tuna issue might run a little deeper for me as he also led the Giants to greatness.

Nothing wrong with acknowledging Tuna's contributions to the team but he really screwed with the players at the worst possible time.
Like a lot of folks a certain age, I hold a certain grudge against Parcells for how he left and that he left to the flippin' Jete. You and @Pape have it dialed though... there's no Lombardis here without Bill Parcells first laying the foundation, making the team relevant, and drafting the core of the 2001-2004 defense, and bridging the relationship between RKK and BB. McGinest, Law, Bruschi, Milloy and Ted Johnson were all drafted under Parcells, as was Bledsoe, Terry Glenn, Curtis Martin and other contributors such as Dave Wolabaugh and Jimmy Hitchcock. For all our *****ing of Belichick's draft failures, Parcells' success in the draft from 1993 to 1996 is a master class on rebuilding a franchise thru the draft.

Should he be given a red jacket? Debatable. Clearly, Kraft and Parcells have buried the hatchet. This is possibly an olive branch to those who love Parcells among HoF voters. It certainly feels like a retconning of the past sins, which certainly doesn't hurt RKK's chances at Canton. RKK should do what he did for Brady and put Belichick in. Then we could put all that crap in the rear view and move forward with the new Maye/Vrabel era.

this is ALL about Krafty wanting to get his HOF bust, and has NOTHING to do with the franchise or the fans

what can i say besides that was a reprehensible move... if they ever do another docu going over that, they should call it "when football egos clash" ... i understand why people voted or will vote no, and i have no problem with it

Except Parcells stated reason for leaving was he wasn't picking the groceries.
Tuna really was the 'duplicitous pond scum' BB got accused of being. Besides, he kicked to Desmond F'n Howard. That alone should earn his lying ass a place in the dustbin of Patriots history instead of a red jacket. You can bet your ass BB wouldn't have kicked to Howard

The narrative is, "Parcells went behind Kraft's back to negotiate with the NYJ".

According to Will McDonough's reporting (which is the word of god) that's not really what happened.

The reality is Kraft knew exactly what Parcells was going to do because he told him.

The problem still remains....Parcells f-ed with the team on a championship playoff run.

Best response prize.

Possible post of the year material.

That's the difference in the preparation. Either Parcells eff'd it up on purpose because he wasn't going to let RKK win, or he missed it and didn't coach up Vinatieri. Either way, real egregious. BB would have never done that.

As far as the groceries go, Parcells was mad because he had Glenn at the top of the draft board and then didn't want him, which RKK then called him on it. I remember RKK really going off on following your processes and all that crap, being all business about it. Parcells, on the other hand, went on and on, all about the groceries, which lived on forever.

I met and spoke with McDonough pre-game for one of the playoff games around that time. Someone was hurt, and he told a bunch of us that the player wasn't playing. 100%. I don't remember which game or which player, but we all thought the same thing, that Will knew what he was talking about. The player in question played the whole game, and we all laughed at it. Thought you knew everything, Will. No?

What he did before that Super Bowl should have him blacklisted from any future Patriots honors.

He actively did not care about the team's best interests in the most important game.

AND THEN it continued when he was with the Jets. He made an offer he knew contained a 'poison pill' for the Patriots when it came to Curtis Martin. It was a cheap move that the league ended up banning right after.

The HoF means nothing to me now.

The Guy was angling to get the Jets job INSTEAD of preparing his team for a Super Bowl!

He should never be allowed back in the stadium, let alone have his name plastered on it!

Kraft screwed both Brady and BB, and he puts Parcels in the Pats HOF!

Count me in as someone who never forgets or forgives someone who screwed me over!

Alternate Universe Question:

Lets say Kraft fired Parcells right before Super Bowl week and after the McDonough article. Who is named HC of the NEP for the SB?

At the time, BB was the Assistant HC.

That would have been interesting.
