We have rules here, yanno.

Ok, here we go. Let’s say Carter and Hunter are gone, and the Pats still decide to go for a pass catcher at 4. This is not a thread about arguing that the Pats should trade down, blah blah blah. It’s a simple thread, who would you want the Pats to pick if they are going pass catcher at 4 between McMillan and Warren (and nobody else).
I would pass the pick (and choose at 5 or even 6) rather than making either of these choices at 4.

Neither
If I had to choose Warren by a landslide

Warren by a landslide…

No beef with you on this, but rather this Mueller person who tweeted Jaxon Smith-Njigba isn't a WR1. Led the Seahawks in targets, receptions, yards, and touchdowns in a WR room that also had DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. That 2021 Ohio State team had Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave, both who got drafted in the top 11 of the 2022 NFL Draft. But it was JSN who led the team in receptions and yards, and by a lot. As a sophomore. If that isn't a WR1 then I don't know what is.

McMillan isn't the same type of WR either. He's closer to Michael Pittman Jr., who is a WR1 in his own right, but on the lower end of the spectrum. The thing with McMillan is he is one of the few true X receivers in this draft class littered with Z and slot types. I went with McMillan for that reason but I wouldn't hate having Warren, even if that crowds the TE room for 2025.

Warren is a Better prospect and more a sure thing. Tet might end up a better pro but got to go with the odds which heavily favor Warren.
According to this analysis TE and WR are the worst positions to take in first round though

That is what people tend to think, but I'm not sure it is true (and I know I've read it other places), he looks like an X, but without good/great ability to get off of the line, he likely won't succeed there, his best chance to make it is either as a big slot or a Z. I think if someone picks him and plays him at X he is going to have problems.

Right, would you take Pittman at 4 or Kittle at 4 if you knew for sure what you were getting? Is Tet's floor Pittman and ceiling Evans? Warren seems like higher floor and ceiling, but who knows. if its reeally BPA than you go Warren or Jeanty I guess, ugh

If I knew Warren is the next Kittle I'd definitely take him, and find a way to trade Hunter Henry for help at another position. Tyler Warren and Austin Hooper would be a fine 1-2 at TE. Also good point now that you mention it, I wouldn't feel easy taking Pittman at 4. He's too soft for a guy his size.

Warren at 4? Did I miss something? Isn’t he supposed to be a towards the end of the round pick? And I don’t even think he’s the #1 prospect.

I love me some tight ends but that might be the most ludicrous reach in draft history.

seems reasonable to assume Warren has a higher floor, base case, and ceiling than Tet, but at a theoretically less valuable position. But given McD's offense and Maye's great seam ball Warren probably more valuable here than anywhere else.

Same guy still has his draft stock mid round.

Again at 4 it’s a ridiculous reach. If you trade down and take him 8-12 and bring back some extra draft capital it makes sense e

I do believe your the only guy I have seen say he's a ridiculous reach at #4. Is he a reach? Sure, I'll give you that, because everyone not named Hunter, Ward or Carter is pegged as a reach at #4. That's the problem with this draft. Someone needs to be picked at #4.

We all throw around the "just trade back" like it's automatic, myself included. There's 28 teams who know what we all know, and #4 is going to be a tough sell if Carter, Hunter and Ward are all gone. There's no guarantee that there's going to be a trade partner at all, or a trade partner that is willing to give up assets to move to #4 when they can get their guy somewhere else in the top 10, just like the Pats would like to do, or the fans would like them to do.

Somebody have to choose him Tet.

I opt for "trade down". Swap with NO and pickup an OT at #9 with an additonal 1st rounder next year.

To expound on something I said either here or on reddit, the Saints are arguably the last team that should think about trading up.

No such thing as a reach. If a team likes a certain prospect, they take him no matter where they are drafting. The ratings YOU use to call it a reach are draft prognosticators, not team’s boards.

I’ll give you an example. Back in 2002, EVERY draft guide had Deion Branch rated as a late round pick, I had one that had him as a 7th round pick. I was SOOO angry the Pats took him in the 2nd round. What a reach I thought, WTH is going on, what a stupid move. And I’m sure most Patriot’s draft fans felt the same way back in 2002.
