Stefon Diggs visiting Patriots

So a meet and greet/pitch meeting last night, and then a physical and look at the facility today.
Physical. Interesting. Wouldn't take a Physical if he had no intention of signing here.

Hardly a perfect fit IMO but you take what you can get.

He's coming off a midseason ACL injury gong into his age 32 season which history says he'll be a noticeably reduced version of himself this year. His personality has led the Vikings and Bills both to trade him coming off years in the playoffs in non rebuild scenarios. Historically he's been more of a Z receiver than an X so not the most complimentary to the guys we have, although none are cornerstone pieces we need to build around of course.

At the same time, he was still playing last year right at about a 1,000 yard pace so even with some fall off he's a good deal better than what we have. Great route runner which would be good to give the guys on the team a look at how it's done. It's unlikely to be a long term commitment at this stage so might not be enough time for him to wear out his welcome.

Amari Cooper was higher on the list for me but I won't gripe about either.

This is like an old school free agent visit.
I watched Diggs tape from last year pre ACL tear. He looked good. Still gets separation, knows how to get open. Not the same vertical threat but if his ACL checks out and Vrabel and Mcdaniels are confident they can manage him, i see a 1-2 year deal with incentives as a good move.
I like his aggressiveness and wanting the ball in key situations.
Team needs swag and fire

If the contract terms weren't close to his liking then yeah, a physical wouldn't happen.

Could be that he wants to push for a little more guaranteed, and they say "let's see how your physical comes back and go from there". If he's looking very good then they can bump it up some. If he's not then it might go into an incentives bucket instead. But they must be close.

Either way, they'd need to do a physical to sign him given his injury, but he wouldn't need to do one to walk away.

1 year deals leave the team in a bad spot very soon, if it is to sign him get a 2 year deal at least. If he is 29 makes sense for the player to sign a one year prove it deal, now at 31 he may want the security of a 2 or 3 year deal.

His history suggest that he's not an asset in the locker room but was tolerated because of his play on the field.

If he's no longer an elite reciever due to age/injuries, I wouldn't want him in our locker room.

I really hate this guy, for this reason. All the talent in the world, ten cent head. It's gonna be a hold my nose and root for him if he signs.

The minute before this thread went up, the general consensus was that he's washed, too old/hurt, wouldn't bring anything to the table, and he wouldn't come here anyway.

Then he bats an eyelash this way and everyone falls to their knees.

Anyway, I have faith in the new braintrust. If they think he's worth a flier, then I'm on board.

He seemed to mesh well as the 2nd option in Houston. The guys there liked him. Dunno.

There have been guys who came to NE who were A-holes elsewhere but were great assets here. Aqib Talib comes to mind.

Some of the chatter was less his physical condition and more the locker room fit. With that crowd, I think your last point is the only one that matters.

That clip that RealFan posted is the exact reason I can't stand him. Get's in the endzone, runs his suck and costs his team 15 yards. My guess is Vrabel will have him on a short leash.

True, but the locker room culture was well established by then. This is year one of Vrabel's team.

Huge difference in bringing him in now vs bringing him in on a team like that, or one that's one year removed from a SB or two.

Look you don't want to babysit Maye too much, if they want to compete for championships Maye will have to lead these man and deal with that kind of thing, star receivers are usually divas by nature.

AJ Brown was having problems with Hurts in Philly but they man up and won a ring.

Kind of a double edged sword. Still think he’s talented and can help the team. On the other side, do we really want this guy to be one of the veterans that a rookie wr looks up too?

Anyway, the talent outweighs Mark Brunell’s sad rhetoric. I’m in with hopes it works out like a champ.
