I like the upside based on his athleticism and relative youth at age 25. With proper coaching he could become a solid contributor on the defense in a dedicated pass rushing role.
One favorable comparison would be Kyle Van Noy.
He joined us at age 25 for a 7th round pick and became a solid contributor for 4 years including a number of nice plays in the playoffs and including our 2018 Superbowl winning team.
As a former 1st round pick Chiasson arguably has even a higher upside than Van Noy if he pans out. I see this as a worthwhile gamble on just a 1 year deal. If he does great in Vrabel's defense we extend him. If not, no permanent harm was done to our cap space.
