Under New Management (Thoughts on Vrabel & Staff on FA)

The first TB SB season’s team (2001-02) wasn’t a top 5 talent pool. But it was a top-5, and #1 group of TEAMMATES.

The two Gints teams that broke our hearts weren’t top 5 talent pools through THE ENTIRE SEASON, but they PEAKED AT RIGHT TIME.

So, my position is… don’t write the 2025 championship season off out of hand as pie in sky impossible; but yes to be satisfied with anything between 8-9 with a great trendline up to 12-5 with a disappointing end to season as reasonable expectations.

I wanted Wolf gone as much as the next guy but since he's still around I'll say this:

I've made plenty of bad choices when on my own and/or surrounded by incompetence.

I've made much better choices with good people around me.

The level of info and feedback I'd get in a room with Glaser and Mayo is very different than what I'd get with Vrabel and Stretch.

And since we have no choice anyway, let's wait a bit to see how Wolf does surrounded by competence.

For the record I have made terrible decisions after getting outstanding advice and great decisions after getting **** advice.
I'm an equal opportunity screw up

Kept 130 million available to sign free agents in this market. In order of importance I’ll take the latter 1,000 x every time.
He didn't keep 130, some was this year. What'd he keep, 40 or 50 was it?
We've had this discussion B4 bud, I don't like him and you do.
That's fine.

They had 130 million for free agency. Wolf was the person managing the contracts, he gets credit for the 130 million. Just as he gets tons of blame for their last draft.

I think he Sucks, you disagree.
That's Fine.
I've said it before, we'll agree to disagree.

Why do people see Mayo as a victim??
He was riding BB's (and Stevie's) coattails while back-channeling favor with old man Kraft while he could parlay the height of the woke movement into a mutiny for a HC job. But, he was woefully unqualified, and he knew it. That doesn't make it Krafts fault, or Wolfs fault that he failed. Mayo promoted DC to DC - who had less coordinating experience as he did (cough, none). And Mayo hired AVP with the same amount of playcalling experience to captain the O. He then proceeded to give ex-teammates and friends jobs to bloat a coaching staff to the biggest in the league, and followed that up by removing the disciplinary culture and establishing a casual work ethic befitting a corporate office. Add his smug attitude to a pseudo "aww shucks, we're all learning", and you get a quick face plant. Kraft's error was falling for it, so his responsibility was to end it as quickly.

You are happy to suck and try at a later date?

You can think he sucks all you want, but he still gets credit for his good decisions and blame for his bad ones.

GM'ing is tuff. As much as I love armchair GM'ing, I would not want that job in real life. Just look at Howie Roseman's first couple of years as GM. This place would've been calling for his head. Now he's considered the best.

Vrabel after Day 1.

I'm an equal opportunity screw up

Me too, brother...me too

Me too, brother...me too

And the difference between us and most screwups is we're willing to not just admit and own our mistakes, we laugh at ourselves for them too.
If the service taught me anything it's if you can't laugh at your own dumbass you sure as hell haven't got anyplace laughing at someone else's

I have to give Vrabel credit, so far, in my opinion and that of many experts he has done an excellent job with FA. He is building a team that other good players will want to join as opposed to the days of the Kraft's when the players are *****ing about ash trays in the old piece of junk plane the Kraft provide. All is good and hopefully better with trades and the draft.

Go Patriots

I thought they did very well, given what was available. I still wanna punch Eliot Wolf in the mouth every time he opens it, but I doubt that will ever change

By the looks of this free agency, Krafts really held the ship tight last year and screwed Mayo .
Part of that is their own doing. Mayo had no network and zero ability to recruit. None. He was so far out of his league it wasn't even funny. Guys wouldn't come here because they didn't know Mayo and his clueless staff. Watching the FA signings and how each guy was recruited by one of the new coaches, it brings into laser focus the colossal failure that 2024 was and Kraft's desire to be free of Bill. He had zero plan, other than to get out of Bill's shadow. Thank god he recognized his mistake.

Not Kraft’s fault???? He hired an incompetent
Unqualified guy to run his multi billion dollar business.
Absolutely 1000% Kraft’s fault
