What are we doing here with this group?

Onwenu
David Andrews
Cole Strange
Layden Robinson
Sidy Sow
Cam Wallace

Should the plan first off be to kick Onwenu back out to right tackle? Are we still rolling with Andrews at center, or is it time to finally move on there?

I get we’re harping at the need at tackle. But I also have a hard time trusting that total group above. A lot of injury issues/ lack of development. Should we be buyers on the inside of the line as well?

There's Jake Andrews and Ben Brown too.

Any time you have 8 players for 5 spots, you let it play out.

You certainly don't add more draft picks to this group.

I would move Strange to Center, have Onwenu at RG, and try to get another guard in free agency. And if Jack Conklin is available they should trade with Cleveland to get him at RT.

LG - ???
C - Andrews, Strange, Andrews, Brown
RG - Onwenu

To me the only real question is LG; Center will shake out in preseason; Onwenu should be RG.

Will also be interesting to see who Josh wants on the line, typically he has liked bigger guards ... Not the Strange type that they started leaning towards when they thought they were going to zone.

Strange was taller and heavier coming out than Thuney and Mason. Curious with Strange how much they look for him as an Andrews replacement at C or going to the LG route. Brown trailed off after a decent start and J. Andrews has offered no assurance.

For Onwenu, would be ideal to just put him at area of best fit approach and seal him at RG. If one things for sure, don’t flip flop week to week like the asinine approach last year.

I just looked it up, Mason was the outlier....Strange and Thuney were both 6'5 305ish; Mason was 6'1 300

Yeah Strange was only fractions of an inch and a few pounds more than Thuney

They have bodies but how many of them have a stranglehold on a roster spot? Andrews is in the very twilight of his career if his body allows it to continue at all. Onwenu is potentially gone after this year with the ‘26 cap hit. Strange is coming up on a contract. Sow had a promising start but regressed last year. The rest are young and unproven.

I do know that although he can play RT, I don't want Onwenu at RT. They can and need to do better there, even for the short-term until Wallace can prove that he can play there (as he was viewed more as a RG prior to last years draft), or they can address the position at some point after the first 3 Rounds of this draft.

Based on what we saw this past season, outside of Onwenu at RG (and if they let him go or trade him after this season, Wallace may be a better RG), I'm not taking any of the OL on the current roster as a given. Andrews at best might give you a full year at Center (and that's a BIG IF). Jake Andrews is an unknown. Not confident in Sow. Robinson looks better suited at RG. I have no idea what to make of Strange thus far.

Since we have the money Id be in favor of throwing out roughly $10m per for mekhari outta Baltimore. Decent investment but not breaking the bank either.

If our main move at rt involves a pick plus wallace mekhari has the flexibility to play out there too if andrews does make it back and you can keep strange at lg. but we should be looking for veteran help there to.

Stanley at LT and Mekari at RT? If so, I'm down with that!

I don’t see them having starter potential. More as backups

But what is that based on?

Layden Robinson under Jerod Mayo?
Cole Strange is a better than average starting guard in the league.
Sidy Sow regressed under Mayo.

This tells me it would be ideal to bring someone in on the interior with extensive starting experience.

I guess I’d say the investments in all of those you mentioned. We spent 3rd/4th rounders on those guys

This tells me that you're not wrong.

1st, a 3rd, and a bunch of 4ths, one of which was at the top of the 4th (Robinson).

If you look at many of the top IOL in the league, they were taken in the middle rounds: Joe Thuney, Quinn Meinerz, Jonah Jackson, Tyler Biadasz, Connor McGovern, Isaac Seumalo, Wyatt Teller.

Just look at the guys who went in the middle rounds last year: Brandon Coleman, Dominick Puni, Cooper Beebe, Delmar Glaze, Mason McCormick.

These guys played really well.

LT is the truer need. If we can somehow trade for a Stud LT then I'd be more willing to test the waters on Strange LG, David Andrews C, and Onwenwu RG. I'm not quite ready to give up on either of them but we can't exactly rely on all of them either.

Problem is I don't know who that stud LT will be so I think we might have to make a tough decision in one of those spots because we are more likely to find interior OL talent than LT. Hopefully bringing in a starter on the OL doesn't piss the guy off who might lose his spot because we also need the depth. I think we'd all feel more comfortable with 4 solid choices fighting it out for the 3 spots but losing PT can be a tough pill to swallow.

Honestly I believe the plan should be to identify 5 guys from the time mini-camp to training camp and start the best 5 players. Simply having a consistent grouping along with far better coaching and player accountability will make a huge difference.
