Offseason player acquisition thread

Haven’t you heard, no one wants to play for the Patriots because of the Mass millionaires tax, so they’ll play in California instead.
My In-Laws and 3 of our kids live in California (my wife's originally from there), and the cost of living there and California's taxes and misc. fees and surcharges are as bad, if not worse than MA.

Alaric Jackson just signed a 3 Year Extension with the Rams. There's my 1st choice for FA LT off of the board. This means that it's more likely than ever that they take Campbell at #4, or trade down and take Campbell at wherever. Our options are even more limited regarding the Draft now. This sucks!
I feel like Campbell is a reach at 4, they can probably trade down and get him at 6-8

But there has to be someone wanting to come up and imo that's unlikely if Carter and Hunter are gone.
If that be the case, then Campbell has to be taken at #4. Besides, if they value him that highly, how do we know another team doesn't value him highly as well. He could get snagged one pick before we can draft him if we trade down.

Basically, it looks as if we will HAVE TO take Campbell at #4. We can't **** around anymore with the OL like they did last year. Maye's health and career depends on it.

Yeah depending what happens in FA he's more than likely our target imo. However i wouldn't write off Stanley, or maybe someone else yet, as the Ravens don't have a heap of money and we probably have put a pretty big financial offer to him

As I've said regarding Stanley before: If he stays healthy, we will still need to get his replacement within two to no more than 3 years on the team and ready to go.

Another side effect of the salary cap magically going up in time to save the other teams. Really sucks. What’s the point if there’s no one left worth spending on.
The cap didn't MAGICALLY go up. FFS. It went up like it has except for 1 year due to COVID.

The Rams were going to get a contract done with Jackson regardless. They had the room regardless. Acting like the cap went up some exorbitant amount means you weren't paying attention at ALL to any of the sites that project this sort of thing.

The cap is crap.
Teams that want to resign their own players can do do if they want
Can not depend on FA to solve problems
The cap isn't crap. But why bother with reality when you can whine all the time the way you do.

Man. Really bad year to have a ton of cap.

Almost want them to push a bunch into next year vs spending on trash players just to spend.

There are plenty of young players hitting free agency that would be of help to this team. I mentioned more than a dozen of them early on.

3 times more expensive for everything you buy

I think they should just go get the best players they can. They have so many needs that they can’t go wrong by signing really good players. They should be able to address defensive front 7 with guys like Baun and B. j. Hill. Target players on teams with cap issues, like the Bengals. .

BJ HILL? Yeah.. let's add a guy who is about to turn 30 who shas issues tackling. Because we didn't have enough issues tackling last year.

No thanks.

People need to look at what Vrabel had on Defense when it was 3rd in points and 8th in yards.

The Pats have:
Barmore, White, Gonzalez, Dugger, Peppers, Bentley, Tavai

Note that Pro-Football-Reference says they were using a 3-4, but it was actually a 4-3 Under with Casey as the 2nd DT and Orakpo as the DE opposite DaQuan Jones.

I’m fully aware of the cap going up every year. I was just expressing my frustration at another big free agent target being taken off the board. It wasn’t a sure thing that the Rams were keeping Jackson, especially when they were still figuring out where Stafford and Kupp fit in their future plans. They got Stafford and Jackson sorted out now. I wouldn’t be surprised if Stanley is next with Baltimore.

Teams are just not letting accomplished OL that they hold in high regard hit the open market period. Like qbs.
This is the reality in 2025. Have to find OL and develop them

I don't understand why Jackson would sign a 3 year deal to play for a team that's shopping it's starting QB (and with no serious QB in the pipeline), and possibly be a FA when he's 29/30, when he could have gotten a 5 year deal from the Patriots and protect the blindside of a young and probable Franchise QB.

Because he lives in LA.

I’m telling you…Boston is not a draw.
