Year Three K Boutte maybe Javon Baker who I loved last Draft. Miracles can happen right.
You could target a guy like Elijah Moore. Younger than both Slayton and Bourne. Can play slot and outside. Will give you the same results. Dyami Brown is a young guy that gave you Bourne type results but got hot in the playoffs. Did he finally start putting it all together or was it because Daniels arrived? He'd be a cheap, young option. Tutu Atwell will give you similar production, though he's a bit small for my liking. Point is, these guys are all the same. Middle of the road receivers. You can pick these guys up anywhere. The hard part is figuring out which ones are a fit to excel in your system. Considering that Slayton has been in a system run by Daboll, I'm gonna guess what you see is what you get.

I don't understand why everyone wants Booty moved out of our top 3 so badly.

We could lose out on some of the Top guys like Higgins - Deebo or Metcalf to Washington: who went far last Season. So we need some sort of back-up plan.

I'm not even a fan of drafting a rookie WR as our savior. But, we could get a trade or FA to play that role.
Point is - the Bengals realized their issues, and totally revamped their team in one offseason for Burrow's 2nd year.

We should be able to do the same with our cap $$ and draft position.
I guess you missed the part where I said "in this class, draft or FA" ... and even the trade targets that makes sense long term, going into last year of rookie deal, are not inspiring.

I mean all the Bengals did was draft Burrow's college WR, that happened to almost instantly one of the top 2 or 3 in the league.

Sure Brown was a non-factor, a result of being injured all season. I like Deebo if they get him for a late round pick.
He was injured came back the last month or so of the season. As talented as he is he's far from the player he was in Baltimore with the 1,000 yard season. Deebo and kupp or kirk or slayton would be fine for me.

That would be an expensive IR staff.

He came back week 16 and barely played, they slowly ramped him up and he played in the playoffs. It’s safe to say he was not up to full speed.

He’s 28 years old next season, has untapped potential and will be cheap.

He should be WR5 by the start of next season. Higgins, Deebo, McMillan, Pop, and then Boutte.

Moore is the same player as pop.. your right.. slayton, kirk are options that are realistic. We have to also remember we one if the best offensive minds at OC and play callers. Also we will be using gibby more who's a mismatch nightmare for LBs and safeties.

I'll agree there on his potential. As BB always said availability is the best ability.. your no good to yourself or your team not being on the field. I'd say sure offer him a camp deal and see how he does with competition.

Agreed, Tee Higgins hasn’t been the picture of health or durability either only he wants 30+ million per. Brown got 6.8 per last year to play with the Chiefs and got hurt again. He’s worth half that now, maybe less on an incentive laden deal based on playing time.

I’d rather invest a ton of money and picks on offensive and defensive line, buy some value vet WR’s and try to strike gold in the draft by going WR again than blow 30+ million per on Higgins. He isn’t that guy…

Yes his health has been the knock on him his entire career. Hamstrings have been his nemesis.. like randy moss those tall long stride WRs seem always have issues with Hamstrings.. I remember randy said he would occasional issues since college with his. But yes it's about the trenches good teams always have good OLs and DLs. I'd want to always through another shot in the dark at a WR. Also remember we have good Coaching back in Foxboro so I'm confident in Josh getting something out of polk and baker.

He's a middle of the pack receiver. Another Kendrick Bourne. Do we really need to be targeting more of those guys? Why not just hold onto Bourne. He'll be a year removed from his injury and he knows the offense. He'll give you the exact same results.

Bourne is far from the down field threat Slayton is, it's not even close. Having Slayton on the field would take the top off in a way Bourne never could. And unlike Nabers, Slayton looks to be available. He could probably be had for a decent deal that leaves room to address other needs. Slayton could certainly be part of a larger solution here at WR in a way Bourne can not.

This is up in the air for me… even at their peak the coaches could usually squeeze one good player out of a couple draft picks, an UDFA and a value vet.

The year they drafted J’whaun Bentley they drafted his twin a round later in Christian Sam. They already had Donta Hightower but were looking for his eventual replacement at that SAM LB spot.

Donta hung on longer and signed for reasonable contracts, Bentley shined but patiently waited his turn, Christian washed out after his rookie contract.

I see Bourne, Boutte and other vets playing better than expected with a better line and Drake Maye. Polk and or Baker might become serviceable… or one or both might fail.

As long as the Pats find production in the draft and free agency nobody will remember the failures.

We need to see more than one nice throw, scramble out of the pocket and then calling it a day. That was the theme in 2024.

Your right also don't forget we lost Bentley his rookie season due to injury he was playing well as a rookie. Poll was have a great camp last summer and showed a great report with Drake. Brissett is what happened to him and then polk getting the concussion. As Vrabel said every one will be given a clean slate. I have hopes for polk and baker.

Slayton has been a jag his entire career. Bring him in and see how you can use him and see if he can push some guys down on the depth chart. Ive got no problem with that. I wouldnt make him a priority target though. He can be a part of the mix…Stallworth lite? He wont elevate the squad though. He’ll turn in similar stats as Bourne did when he was healthy his first year here.

I don't believe anyone is presenting Slayton as the solution, I'm certainly not. Rather I could definitely see him as a viable part of a solution. Sadly, I don't believe 2025 Bourne can be that anymore.

Agreed. I'd say KB was still coming off the ACL and we know that takes a player at least a season to really recover with today's medical advancements even. I'll say KB had the best production of his career under McDaniels. He would be the main guy who could thrive. Slayton would give us an outside threat. He would be a piece on offense.
