How confident are you on our own Roster?

These are pretty much the hardest things to find in FA.

Teams that have good players at LT, WR1, EDGE and DB rarely let them get to FA.

When they do, they command top dollars and have lots of suitors with better situations than ours.

I think this is way too much to expect for one off-season.
When I read "good" in your post, I think that you mean all-pro or close. Sure, these are relatively rare in free agency.

However, in addition to all-pro players, we need better than average staters at these positions, even average staters at OT would be a major improvement.

For example, I expect that there are several safeties that would be an improvement over Hawkins. Yes, I know that we have Schooler, Pettus and Mapu as backup safeties. Maybe that's OK if we have no injuries to Dugger or Peppers, but I think that we should have a better #3 safety.

Agreed. On the safeties I'd like marpu to stay healthy and continue to develop as a player he's showing abilities that he could be that FS, 3rd safety we so desperately lack. Hawkins is meh..

Would you do it for a 4th rounder???

Samuel is well worth trading for. My guess is that it will take a 3rd. As far as being worth it, Samuel would need to agree to sign a new 3-4 year contract with us. I expect that we could come to a mutually acceptable deal.

ISSUE ONE
Does Samuel want to come to non-contender? Surely other teams will have interest.

ISSUE TWO
My gut bias is to pass on players who want to leave other teams, presumably because the team won't pay them enough. The initial contract price will be high. And as soon as he is "unhappy", he'll whine and insist on a trade.

Good stuff. Deeboo even though dinged up alot due to how physical he is as a player is still s great player and looked dam good against us last year. I'm thinking in the range I'd 3rd and or 4th rounder. Say he signed a 3 year extension ? actually I think he's under contract already with SF so we'd take on his deal? The possibilities are endless of what McDaniels could do with Deebo in the offense.

I think we would need to develop our players via draft and sign some unheralded vets and coach them up to become heralded like what eagles did with beckton and baun .

Anybody coming in for money is more likely to be less motivated to perform . So focus need to be more on coaching and drafting / signing players who want to be coached hard.

I think the best way to look at it is where would the players we have fit on a contending team.

Qb. Maye - we’ve got the right one.
Milton could develop should be qb3 with a chance to earn qb2
Given the cap space we have and krafts long standing reluctance to dorms cash as the level other teams do, I think it’s safe to say we will sign a vet backup QB because that will be 1:1 Cap to cash

Rb Stevenson and Gibson are RBs you can win with if the OL is average or better.
We need a 3rd down specialist, OR a RB2 to replace Gibson and make him 3rd down back.

WR Douglass is WR3.
Boutte is a WR4.
No one else should be counted on as a contributor on a contender.
Polk could be kept around hoping he gets his head out of his @ss, but there isn’t much room on a roster for a WR who can’t contribute

TE Henry is fine.
Need a TE2. Depending upon how WR is filled out we either need a big quality contributor or a bit piece because TE2 will be de-emphasized.

OT We have nothing of NFL quality. Given Wallace’s draft slot (and pre draft rating on the same area) he should be kept around in hopes he develops. Ideally OT4 but could be OT3.

OG Onwenu is starting caliber but should not be our best OL. If Strangevus at LG we are good at this spot but need depth. Robinson is a long shot to be even backup quality. If Strange ends up at C we need a starter and a backup.

C I think Strange ends up at G. Andre’s may have a season left as a capable, mediocre C. We have no one else that is NFL caliber.

Offense needs a free agent spree.
Defensively.

DL. White needs to be a DL and we need to stop trying to make him an edge. He need to play from outside shoulder of G to head up on the T. Depending upon what we are running. If we run a 3-4 ish scheme put him in the tackle, if we run a 43ish play him on the G. He can line up wherever there is a mismatch in 3rd down. Godchaux is effective as a run stopper. Barmore cannot be counted on. Wise shouldn’t only be depth. Ekuale needs to lose weight and go back to a 3rd down inside rusher role, or be cut.
We have nothing on the edge. Jennings could play running downs IF we get a good pass rusher for the other side because he is a major liability as a pass rusher.

LB. Bentley is OK if used properly and part of a good unit, but he cs t be one of the best players on the D or it will struggle. Tavai should be a backup. Ellis should be on the practice squad. Taki Taki should be gone.

Corner. Gonzo is a cb1. Marcus Jones is a mediocre cb3 who should have competition. Jon Jones is cooked. Austin could be cb4. We need a 2, and more depth.

S. We need 3 started, we have 2. Duggar and peppers, healthy and used correctly age good players you can win with.
Hawkins stinks. Pettus stinks. We need a starter and at least 1 backup.

Deebo is a full tilt, full time guy. Deebo plays with the attitude that one guy should never be able to tackle him.
That attitude is really needed on this team and especially in the softest WR room in the NFL.
Big effort players always have big years when they change teams.

Add kupp and Maye goes from an OC who was a moron and WRs who did t know what they were doing to one of the most experienced OCs and a very experienced and smart receiving group.

Love it! Absolutely love it. Do you anticipate we could get both players??

Agree with all those who think this is going to be a 2-3 year process. The OL was the worst NFL OL I've ever seen. It will take coaching, good drafting and development and maybe a couple of good FA veterans. I think Andrews needs to be replaced. Unlike most others, I'm down on Onwenu also. Got paid, got fat. He can't get low enough play guard and he's too slow for RT. I really hope Vrabel tells him to lose at least 30 lbs.

Why not? Rumor is each are available for a day 3 pick and we certainly can afford them.

I'm leaning more to both of those players wich under McDaniels will significantly help Drake in his year 2 leap.

Only safe players are Maye, Gonzo and Baringer. I want good competition coming into the season at all positions. Priorities: O-Line, receivers, D-line, LB, Secondary, kicker in that order.

Huck its all good, i didn't take it personally... i would just say try to be more circumspect when touting "honors"... and yes, i'm going to be pedantic here - one writers list is not a consensus All-anything team...

when it comes down to it, it doesn't matter if a player is a rookie or a veteran... if they play a substantial portion of the snap counts, then criticism - or praise - is going to come their way... its the nature of the beast... Its impossible to sit back and say nothing for two or three seasons while rookies "grow into their role"...

If we did that, then nothing would have changed between 2024 and 2025 because we'd all be collectively waiting to "see what happens"... Understand your point about the development of youngers guys... at the same time, if they are developmental prospects and are playing significant minutes, its an indicator that something is wrong... the roster, roster construction, injuries etc... should we have waited on Nick Leverette to figure stuff out instead of calling out his poor play? eh... I don't think so...

While I truly believe guys in the media (not all, but more than a few - just look at the number of Bots crawling around here) look at sites like PatsFans, Pats Pulpit, twitter, facebook, etc to get the pulse of the fanbase, what we say really has little to no impact on anything... Maybe if we are lucky a post or two might rattle a cage or two, thats a good thing... perhaps bringing what we see as short comings to the attention of those who might not see it or those who know it and can do something about it...

Pape, it’s not so much that I put great stock in the ESPN all rookie list, although I believe that would be a consensus and not just one writer, but the fact that he made it after such an average season demonstrates how few rookie OL really contributed much this year. People here are going crazy screaming bust, but by their standard so are the fans of every team in the league, as most on the list were first rounders, and only a few were taken after that.

be honest when evaluating the roster... he was not all-rookie anything...

Unfortunately we are in year one of a rebuild…again. That said I think they made the right moves coaching wise. The amount of experience these guys have is so much more than last year. I’m hoping we can be contenders again soon, but don’t think it will be this year. We maybe if the other 3 teams **** the bed this year and I think it’s coming. Maybe a wc spot. Roster needs improvement and will happen via draft. FA is still going to be hard since, well we know the reasons and I won’t go on a tangent there. Things will be restored to their former glory. This is but a blip on the road to dynasty 3.0 + 4.0. I’m hoping after all this punishment we have had that we can return to our old Darth Vader hated ways soon enough. “Only your hatred can destroy me!”

That would be impossible to judge without watching the film of all the rookie OL, and I haven’t come close to doing that. And when I started looking at what other rookie OL drafted after the first round did this season it was Jack ****. So I’m not sure how you came to that conclusion without actually knowing what other rookies did?

Was he outstanding, no. Was he better than other rookies, I have no idea, but at least he spent time starting, and most of them can’t even say that.

no.

thats all you need to know

Schooler is safe.
