Vrabel's Staff Discussion Thread (Discuss related news here)

Even if things go well, I can't see another team giving him another shot at HC. I could see a team with a young QB coming up with some title that would be considered a title and throwing the bank at him to develop the offense around the prospect.
I feel with Josh having made generations of wealth, his family settled into Foxborough. I think OC is what he should stick with. He is probably paid as the highest paid OC in the league. I want to see him take Drake to the top 5 QB we know he can be.

Bedard had a pretty detailed article on the coaching hires.
Highlights
-Ownership had no influence on Josh Hire
-Interview process with Josh was extensive
-Vrabel had Josh at top of list with Arthur Smith and Rees but Vrabel was scared by the revolving OC position at Titans and never had such an experienced OC as Josh and thus was very appealing to Vrabel and was likely his top choice all along.
-Vrabel does not have a McShay/Shanahan style preference
-League source says people don't understand how much work Josh did last off season to update is offense.
-Vrabel related hires under Josh were all mutually agreed to, most of Josh's former coaches were already employed. Vrabel did not sit in on Downing interview, wanted Josh to not be influenced by him being there
-Thomas Brown blew away the interview and chose Pats to learn under Josh and have some stability
-Marrone is a veteran coach that's been in many systems and was type of O line coach Vrabel/Josh wanted.
-Dante and Marrone know each other so not unlikely Scar will drop in once in a while.
-Team source said all the coaches are at hotels away from family and working non-stop and 100% in lockstep
-Vrabel excited by the staff he put together.
So today in Boston sports talk drama, Mazz calls Bedard's report Patriots propaganda and Bedard responds in outrage, incidentally throwing the Herald's reporting under the bus.

I absolutely love scarr coming back on as an Advisor. This staff is a total 360 from last season. This only spells great things for Drake and the rest of the team.
*SMH* You do understand that being a "total 360" means it's exactly the same. I think you mean it's a complete 180..

It's not "whatever I say". It's literally the phrase. It's regarding the degrees of a circle. 180 is halfway around. . 360 is a complete circle.
Yes, and I thank you for clarity on this. 180 is the correct term.

Yeah, Bedard wrote a follow up article about it. Felger and Mazz have no sources or information.

Felger doesn’t like it when you don’t follow his narrative of everything sucks in Boston.
Ordway once told a story of how he was blocked from the teams locker room when he covered the team working for the herald.

Can someone give me a reason to believe Williams won't be another bad guess at DC. He's never called plays.
What makes first time coordinators able to call entire defenses? He also has never coached another position in his career, only DL. That worries me.

Unlike last year our first time play caller can actually go to the head coach for advice.

Better health in the front 7.

And the CB duo of Gonzalez and Hunter.

Plus 27 years of prior coaching experience all as a position coach, versus 12 years of experience where 3 were as a graduate assistant.

Heard report that Vrabel may possible call plays on defense to start the season? Have you heard anything on this also?

I have not heard that. I suppose it could be interesting but I'm generally not a fan of that type of thing on either side of the ball.

Williams is a seasoned veteran coach in the league. He's legit. Over the years it was crennel, Dom capers, to name a few were seasoned coaches when they were the DCs. Typically the DL is the step right under the DC as it's said. Then again these days there are so many titles. Fact is Williams can coach and under he and Vrabel this defense won't be "soft" like last season.

Me neither. giardi mentioned it last week on on patriots news cast on YouTube. Maybe he was just summizing it. I don't like when a HC calls plays I want the coordinator to do that it takes away the HCs abilities to focus on the entire team and in-game situations. Just my viewpoint.
