There's no such thing as a "post-6/1 designation" for trades. Only cuts.
Thank you for the info. According to OverTheCap, if they trade him after 1 June it would allow them to get more salary cap relief.

A 32 yo receiver struggling with injuries the past few years is going to learn EP...that's going to work out well. Somehow people forget all the star WR retreads that attempted the same and failed. IMO it would be colossal mistake to pay $20m for past performances from years ago.
Dk and now Higgins aren't projected to come here. Who's on your radar?? Last I checked chase had more yards than our entire WRs combined.

That article is actually from November. I believe he's still available for trade.. 3rd and a pick next season for Olave should do??.. it's also unfortunate that I can't even say we can draft a guy.. becuase we can't seem to do that.
that was a news guy opining on possible targets, not talking about guys who are actually available...

but hey, it won't hurt to kick the tires, find out if he actually is available...

I wonder if DK could be persuaded to buy into the trade with a new contract? Money solves a lot of problems.

I thought this was interesting:
They're already speculating that Higgins will turn down overpayment here. If that's the case, the Pats need to think seriously about trading for Cooper as a trade takes the decision out of his hands.
Yeah that’s the big thing. If the Rams can’t find a trade partner then they’ll cut him and save the cap money. But then Kupp will have his pick of whatever team he wants to go to and he’s not going to pick New England. Trading for him is the only way to make sure he ends up here. The question is, is he still the guy who from Week 8-14 put up 45-510-5 (on 17-game pace for 109-1239-12) or is he the guy who completely bombed the next four games that he played? How much was that dropoff injury related and how much was age?

In this league id rather have a back plan at QB.
Now if you don’t value him as highly as other teams do and you can maximize your perceived value for him then I guess you make that trade.
Yes. I'm saying hold on to him.. unless we get to the trade deadline and someone offers us a kings ransom then you definitely do it. This also all depends on Drake staying healthy.

yes... but in order to actually get those benefits, the team would have to trade him on or after 6/1... its not like releasing a player where the team can designate the move as a "post 6/1" transaction...

I guess the rams could reap the benefits if they are willing to sit on a trade until after 6/1... but then they'd be looking at 2026 draft picks instead of 2025 draft picks...

NOs obviously is rebuilding. So I mean I'm sure cowden will be looking into the possibilities. This is why I really want polk and baker to develop into something. Baker has deep threat ability and polk could be excellent in the middle for Drake. There goes me hoping again...

As Pape mentioned DK isn't coming here.. so why not go after a young phenomenon in Olave. Still on his rookie deal and can grow with Drake and be a presence for him on the outside.
Four concussions in the NFL including two this season alone. I like Olave but he’s too risky. If anyone was scared for Tua for the concussions he’s had (4 in 5 seasons) then they should be just as concerned for Olave (4 in 3 seasons).

I agree there. I brought up his Concussion concerns as well. With DK and Higgins likely not coming here the only other way is by trade.

Mainly to entice Kupp. He would get all of his money for the year upfront guaranteed instead of most of it being non-guaranteed. I did mention adding a 3rd year also.
I was thinking from team point of view. Usually signing bonus is a tool for managing cap. I don’t see that as important for Pats this time. Problem with your comment from team point of view is it puts all his money up front, guaranteed with no hedge for poor performance. Not an attractive bet on a 32 yo wr. That’s why it’s not a slam dunk to me. I’d be more enthusiastic about gambling to get a good vet presence if the cap exposure were hedged. Converting to a signing bonus attaches a dead cap tail that means they’d be paying later for a flop now, a risk not to my liking.

Who else is there potentially available? Deebo?

If he stays put, without doing anything, he picks up 7.5 million when the new year starts in the form of a roster bonus... if he does nothing, then he banks that guaranteed money without lifting a finger... all he has to do is wait...

It does not benefit him to restructure at this point... The size of the contract gives him leverage... If he identifies an acceptable destination, then it would benefit him to restructure the deal/sign a new deal to facilitate a trade... and then he gets new bonus money... so it does not benefit him to do anything at this point... ymmv on that conclusion

its a waiting game for him... either way, he is getting a lot of guaranteed dollars next year...
Not at his age. If he gets lots of dollars they’ll not be guaranteed. If he gets guaranteed money it won’t be crazy lots.

You're not wrong but I think this is their only vector by which to attract him to the team right now. If they don't try to sweeten the pot for him then he will end up elsewhere. They continue to have crazy cap space in future years so I think taking a risk on what is maybe around $10M of dead money or less in the third year if he falls apart is worth taking. Depends on your view of the player, though.

tough to trade a 32 year old broken down wr with a thirty or forty million dollar contract (not sure how much the remainder of his deal is) if you are unwilling to eat some of that contract, wouldn't you think?
Old and broken down?? Kupp didn't look like it vs us.

I’m on the fence about the player. Was hoping for something to help tilt the tables.

I’m also ambivalent, unconvinced about the urgency of upgrading the WR roster in light of the ****show coaching last year, or last couple of years. I’m not convinced the talent on the field was as bad as it looked, given how badly they were misused and abused. Part of me wants to see the new coaching staff upgrade the OL, keep the same talent at skill positions, and fix the playbook, play calling, game prep and game management. It wouldn’t surprise me to see a borderline playoff caliber season from that.

Somebody please pass this on to Albert Beer... opinions are like @ssholes everybody got one. On Tee Higgins not coming here that Beer's opinion: you can tell he had a few.

We made almost everybody we played look better than they were.
I have no problems with Kupp he would easily give us 750yds at the very least. We had the 31st Ranked Offense don't know why we want to be so choosy.

Remember Josh McDaniels would automatically prefer a Proven Vet WR over a Rookie WR... He knows what he's getting from the Vet.
