2025 LT

Nate solder redux?

Mid-2nd round? Too rich for my blood. Seems more like a Day-3 upside pick, but only if you have any of those to spare. Not sure if we do this year; we need Contributors.

BTW, nice to see you again.
Thanks Captain. I agree about the round grade but I do think a day 3 pick would be worth it. It's unlikely we'll get serious contributors in the later rounds so I'd be fine with a high upside developmental pick who could back up at both tackles and possibly act as a blocking TE. Although to be fair I've yet to watch him which I'll get too but I liked the potential of what I've read.

And nice to see you too.

I wouldn't discount Donovan Jackson as a LT pick. As most of you probably know, he took over a LT for Ohio State from LG as replacement for Justin Simmons when he went down for the year. In his second game ever at LT he gave up two sacks but hasn't given up one since. In that time he's played a bit of a murderers row in Indiana, Michigan, Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, Notre Dame.

Another dude whose combine measurements will be very, very important...

Reminds me of Jemaree Salyer, whom you than were quite high on as a mid round pick his draft year. Salyer did just fine at LT filling in for Slater for a season, but is a better OG than an OT, I think he’s a better OG than 1st rounder Zion Johnson.

It’s about time though for a legit LT1, which the Pats have gone without since Wynn crapped out on them.

Here's a massive mountain of a man that could be a hidden gem.

Hollin Pierce Rutgers

Looking at Draft Buzz he's dominant in run blocking but lacks athleticism in pass pro. As a RT I could possibly get behind it but I think it'll depend on how much zone blocking McDaniels plans to do. Nice find.

He's a smart kid too, so he should be able to find a way to get out of himself whatever athleticism he has in himself...

I watched a game of his and I just thought he was too slow and lumbering. I think there will be better options.

He's not what we need at Left Tackle certainly; but if we grab one of those with our 1st- or 2nd-round pick, then I wouldn't be averse to using a 4th-rounder on him, similar to Dawand Jones in 2023 perhaps...

To be fair Wynn was never an LT1. He was mediocre at best. And then he lost all interest in competing when it became clear the Patriots weren't going to pick up his option.

We haven't had really good LT in New England since the days of Matt Light and Nate Solder. And we also don't have one of the greatest OL coaches of all time developing them either. Dante Scarnecchia was such a vital part of our dynasty looking back at it now.

I'm ok with dropping back a couple of spots and taking Kelvin Banks Jr. Maybe we are 'overdrafting' a little but this year's LT class is thin. After him you're looking at late 1st/early 2nd type prospects who may or may not make it as a left tackle.

We'll be able to see him in one on ones in the senior bowl which should give us an indication of whether he has the foot speed to protect Maye.

I think if Banks or Campbell look good against their peers in Practices and the Games either could be our pick on a slight Trade Down. I want Two Offensive Tackles with Starting Potential from this Draft. I want Nothing to do with who we currently have.

I'm a bit concerned that Banks and Campbell declined their senior bowl invites. Are they worried about being exposed in one on ones?
