Well they had a whole regime change and if Vrabel wants to change things up, he’s going to do it. Is it ideal he has to learn a new system? No. Is it the end of the world? No. A huge plus to McDaniels being the guy is the guy isn’t going anywhere, so Maye will have plenty of time to learn the system. He’s a pup, he will be fine.

I don’t see the big deal. It’s Drake’s second season, are they really supposed to stick with the system that their 11th choice in OC in 2024 provided for the rest of his career? And if you’re worried he can’t learn it, then maybe he’s not the guy.

Agree but they implemented a widely accepted offensive system.

While i share some of the concerns with McDaniels and Drake these guys aren't stupid like the last guys.

They will probably plan out a way to progress the system over a 2-3 year period in bite sized chunks.

Vrabel already talked about only giving the players what they can handle.

Where is McDaniels possibly going to leave? He’s flamed out as a HC twice, this is his ceiling. These young buck coaches are much more likely to leave. Look what’s happening to Baker Mayfield in Tampa.

The WRs did just fine in 2021. Guys like Jacobi Meyers and Kendrick Bourne did just fine. WRs not being able to develop is more of a Brady thing than a McDaniels thing. Brady had no patience for dumb mistakes, which will happen with young WRs.

Personally I like the idea of running a scheme that is not the same as what most other teams run these days. It forces defenses to have to spend more time game planning for what you do. Josh has also shown an ability to adapt and change what his offense does week-to-week which was something Vrabel said he wants to emphasize. Additionally, I think this lets the team get some extra value in targeting types of players that might be less ideal fits in the common West Coast schemes. Finally, Josh's offense has an ability to reach a higher ceiling if the QB has the mental capability, which I think Drake has - and also can squeeze production out of less talented WRs if they have the IQ. That said - year 1 would be fairly vanilla, so I don't think we'd see all of that come to fruition right away.

This is a very Belichickian take. He always liked to zig whenever the rest of the field was zagging.

The downside here is that it's harder to draft WRs coming from a college system, and likely also harder to trade for them out of a much smaller pool. And of course the stress on Maye switching to a new system.

Recall McDaniels took Mac and a low-end WR group to something like the 5th-highest scoring offense in the League. So he knows what the hell he is doing and has experience with all manner of QBs.
