Glaser told him. They were tight. He then told some of his coaches, and they went all out with their playbooks against an opponent playing straight up vanilla. The Krafts were livid, which is why he was fired and escorted out immediately after his press conference.

After some digging the Krafts found the leak: Glaser. Just a Brutus-level betrayal, Mangini-esque if you will. There could never be trust again between her and the Krafts. And thus her resignation lay on Kraft’s desk a few days later.

I dunno why Kraft didn't fire Mayo the week before the final Buffalo game. That would have created enough disfunction to lose that game.

I really find it hard to believe that Mayo did not tell Thunder that he would need time to get up to the demands of the job.

Why else would Mayo say that he would be better next season?

If both sides know and agree that Mayo would get a fair amount of time to succeed or fail then pulling the plug this early is BS.

I think it was a culmination of things that lead to his firing and had it not been for so many factors he would have probably bought himself more time. The things that I think pushed him out the door in just one year are and in no particular order. Lack of team improvement throughout the season, regression on defense, poor interviews and walk backs, visible lack of coaching experience across all coaches (his coaches), visible grumbling with the players and the fans barking and fans = money. They handed a 16 year old who just got his learners the keys and said you running the Daytona 500 next week. He was pretty much set up for failure and it happened and no one should be surprised, including Mayo.

There are two considerations when joining an Internet Board. 1. Individual, and 2. Commnunity. There are areas to respect for both individuals and the community. You are elevating your own individual concerns above the community's concerns as evidenced by the posts asking you to stop. The error in excessive disruption of the Board community for your own individual needs should be self-obvious.

His Kraft hate is based largely on blaming him for not stepping in to keep Tom in 2019, and also on the handling of the BB firing.

If you're going to give a guy a chance, then get 100% behind him and do everything possible so that he can succeed. Vrabel needs time to turn this around just like Mayo did too.

Mayo not getting a fair shot had nothing to do with the Rooney rule or his skin color. He had no business being the HC in the first place. Kraft jumped the gun because he loved the man, but the man was not ready. No one doubts how great of a human being Mayo is. The unfairness was hiring him for a position he had no business holding. His firing was not unfair. I don't care if you gave him another 5 years, it was not going to get better. Mayo needs a big serving of humble pie so he can admit to himself he was way over his head and not ready. Then he needs to get into a DC role where he calls the plays himself or goes to college and builds it all back up. Get the football IQ in place. Kind of like Pete Carroll. Nicest guy in the world, but had to find himself as an NFL coach. When he did, it all clicked for him. I hope that happens for Mayo, but I have my doubts too. His wife spouting off is just an extension of him. He comes off to me as entitled. That shot Vrabel took at entitled players could also be said about Mayo. They got is from somewhere.

I totally agree that Mayo was wronged in Kraft giving him the job to begin with. Mayo may have been the most unqualified hire for head coach in the history of the NFL.

Now with that said Mayo could’ve given more effort in coaching this season, it just seems like he thought I have three seasons to figure it out, I don’t want a head coach who is coasting through a season. Knowing his coaching staff was so inexperienced he should’ve been working 20 hour days. You or I could’ve done a better job.

Actually, firing Mayo and bringing in Vrabel, if it works out, may be what DOES get him to the HOF.

It took guts to do that, and I was very much down on Kraft before that. He still was just along for the ride under the BB SBs, and actually hindered those teams, but he deserves much credit for admitting a mistake and doing the needful.

In the history of the league, there has never been a transgender as a head coach. That is unfair. We need a transgender rule. According to your logic, when this rule is put in place, more transgenders will be hired as coaches and there will be more diversity. Just stop it. If there is a transgendered person who is the best candidate, interview them and hire them. If not, don't. Interview and hire people based on the content of their character and not the color of their skin. I heard that somewhere before. Oh ya, happy MLK Day.

Should otherwise qualified demographics - of any kind - begin to face discrimination because of their identity, then that absolutely should also be addressed.

It was just an illustration to show this silly thing never ends. Are there franchises who still discriminate against black coaches? I have no idea. Probably, but what evidence is there that it still takes place? That sounds like your feeling over fact if you don't have evidence. Has it happened in the past? Yes, and thats easier to prove.

Let's assume there are current teams who discriminate for a moment. What does forcing those fools to interview black coaches actually do? Those franchises still won't hire them. You can't stop racism by forcing a racist to interview black people. Lol that is ridiculous. Not every franchise or current owner has discriminated against black coaches either. To say all 32 franchises are racist is just stupid.

Here are some facts. Approximately 13.7% of Americans are black. We are a minority. Going into the 2024 season, there were 9 black head coaches. That is 28%. The NFL has doubled the national statistic. As a black woman, do I want more black head coaches? The answer is simple. I don't care about the color of one's skin. I care about hiring the best person available for the job.

Another fact, and not feeling, is that only 25% of the NFL players are white and 69.4% are black. A record 15 black QBs started the 2024 season. That is 46.8%. There were 18 non-white Defensive Coordinators last season. That's 56%, and 44% were black. I have not done the research on Special Teams coaches. I saw one floating stat that said 6 are black, which is 18%, and 5% higher than the national average. I posted earlier that in 2024, 28% of NFL coaches were black and the population in the USA is 13.7% black. The NFL doubles the average.

So based on the facts, where is the racism, lack of diversity, or lack of solidarity? Does racism exist? Yes, of course, but it is not supported with these stats and facts I have shared. Perhaps it is in others. From what I could see, there were no black Offensive Coordinators last year. Is that because of racism or hiring cycle? But if 28% of HC are black, and 44% of DC are black on those same teams, I doubt its a race issue. The average of HC+OC+DC+ST still is higher than the national average of black population (13.7% nationally vs 22.6%).

There will always be racists. Another problem is that some of my fellow minority members won't stop until they achieve dominance rather than equality. That is just wrong. It is my belief, as a black woman, that the NFL is in good shape, and treats minorities fairly. Maybe there is room for improvement, but that is part of being human. Recognize wrong, and do right.
