Just noted a news story about UNC/Bill. Sure it's "normal process" (although there is nothing "normal" about a 6 time Super Bowl winning Head Coach joining a college program), but a term sheet is not a legal contract, and there is debate about what his buyout would be if he decided to leave. I can't imagine that he would leave UNC this year, but many here thought there was NO way Kraft would fire Mayo after one year.
Good to hear.
The bigger point is that it’s odd Lombardi has become Belichick’s sole mouthpiece on these matters in recent days.
As former Patriots defensive back Devin McCourty said on Tuesday’s PFT Live, Belichick harped to his players about the importance of always speaking for themselves, and of never letting anyone else speak for them. Why would Belichick deviate from that approach now, if it was “completly fabracated” that his lingering interest in returning to the NFL before his $10 million buyout drops to $1 million, coupled with his delay in fully and completely hiring his coaching staff, would make others skittish about his plans?
Maybe his trust was a little broken as people he once trusted tried to replace him before he was gone. Inserting unqualified people in places he once held power and writing succession clauses into contracts. While there has always been talk of BB being a good listener to his advisors, it does seem that he has difficulty trusting anyone outside a small group. He doesn’t adapt to some aspects as well as he adapts mid game to an opponent.
Click bait heaven. People have tied BB to Dallas, Dallas job is open so why not write a shocking article implying BB isn’t committed to NC because LIKE EVERYONE ELSE he signed a term sheet and it’s unlikely an official contract gets prepared and signed until a few months go by.Ironic this story comes out one day after McCarthy is wacked in DAL.
Yea he isn't going anywhere.Click bait heaven. No. As we discussed before the only way he is going anywhere is if he told them up front that it was a contingency if the right job came through.Yea he isn't going anywhere.
You have a very interesting and compelling point.Belichick is hurting himself by letting the rumors swirl about going back to the NFL. I think he could have one of the biggest recruiting advantages of any coach in college, as any kid serious about wanting to go pro would want to play for a HC with a direct pipeline to the league. But kids are going to pass if they think he will walk after they commit to his program. He should put all the rumors to rest by making it clear he’s not going anywhere for the next few years.
Agree but he is also teaching the kids indirectly not to get caught up in the noise. Media. Social media.Belichick is hurting himself by letting the rumors swirl about going back to the NFL. I don't know how he is hurting himself. His mouthpiece, Lombardi dismissed it. He can't stop people from talking about it and if he did deny it, nobody would accept it anyway. Dunno if he's letting it hang out there on purpose, just some media trying to get clicks. No way no how he bolts on UNC.He’s hurting himself by letting it hang out there. He should make it clear he’s not going anywhere.
