Just had a similar thought. Just hire Riech if that’s what you like. I’m fine with it…good OC
He’s getting paid HC money on his Panthers deal for another 2 years. He’s another guy like McDaniels who probably won’t bolt for another HC opportunity after getting badly burned by Carolina, and he’s already a little older in his 60s.

For what it’s worth, both Thomas Brown and Marcus Brady are minority candidates, so they could just be doing legwork on the Reich tree while also fulfilling the Rooney Rule obligation at the same time, and then eventually getting to Reich himself.

I haven’t really heard anything about Reich lately around the league but I wouldn’t have anything against him in the role, seems like a smart and safe decision, if not “flashy”.

Brown is an upcoming hc candidate. Major flight risk. Who we put behind him would be very important.
After being OC in Carolina, even though he did not call plays the entire time and the Bears **** show even though they were not Browns doing per say. I think that put a bad taste in peoples mouths and will follow him for awhile.

Vrabel is WCO guy. Doubtful his OC will be McDaniels or any and former Patriots who haven’t spent time working with McVay.

I don’t wanna sound like a jerk, but do they have to satisfy the Rooney Rule when interviewing for the OC & DC as well ? Brady and Brown would both satisfy the rule on the OC side.

Yes and you don’t sound like a jerk, I think Brown would be an excellent RBs coach but I don’t know about OC.
I’m not sure about his play calling creativity.

Im not down.

Vrabel specifically mentioned wanting to talk to coaches still in the playoffs, there will be many more interviews.
I know it. Interested to see how many more. Dialed in, already knows who he wants? Or are we going back to interviewing 10+ candidates again?

Do we know what language Maye used this season? Was it the historical EP system or the WCO language spoken (I assume) by Van Pelt. If it was WCO-speak, then presumably either McDaniels or Maye would have to switch.
Well whatever set of semantics he used last season is the one I want him using THIS coming season

100% this. If they hire McDaniels, which i am completely fine with, i want him learning mandarin not Drake Maye. Run your offense, its worked plenty of the time, but translate it into whatever Maye knows. I want him working on footwork, throwing motion, ect not learning a new language.

Drake learned a new language, worked on footwork, throwing motion, etc. in 2024 and he easily picked it all up and seemed very comfortable. Smart kid. Drake has proven he can handle all that.

What Drake needs is discipline to curb his in-game competitive fire. Maye was not good at sliding to avoid contact, throwing the ball away, etc. That is Maye's weakness that needs to be addressed.

We have watched Maye for a season and have seen his weakness, so let's hope Vrabel and crew get inside Maye's head and help him create NFL decision making thought processes. Learning the verbiage of the offensive system is not the issue.

Would be nice to find an OC that can be with Maye for 2-3 seasons at least.
After all the turmoil, I feel that this sentiment applies to the entire coaching staff. Too much change at too many positions has to be hard on the players.

Based these two candidates they want to stick with an OC who will run the WCO

Sure, and we have seen how many highly picked, had a decent first year, young QB get messed up by switching offenses and OCs too many times the first couple years? Even if its 5% of his time learning a new offense, thats more then i want him spending on anything but the holes in his game that only he can fix thru time and repetition. If Maye was a 4 or 5 year vet and closer to a finished product id be on board with him learning the new offense but this year is crucial for that 2nd year jump. Id much rather the guy who has been an OC for 20 years have to do some extra work and thinking.

As much as I like vravel and think he's the coach the team needs, everything I've read and heard makes me uneasy for how he is going to fill his staff
