I have some concerns about the projections with our 4th pick that show our selecting Banks or Cambell. Both are big and heavy and seem to lack the mobility and footwork to play tackle. The articles I have been reading and the videos I've watched seem to imply that Josh Connerly Jr. of the Oregan Ducks may be the best LT in the draft
He has what you can't teach natural and smooth footwork. Rather than describe his footwork you can judge for yourself by watching the following links. The first is from the 49ers that they released in mid or late December 2024 after scouting him form the entire year....

This next link is about his skillset in all the situations that a left tackle would have to master to be successful. Well thought out video...Thoughts?

Yes from what I've seen the only true LTs worthy of high consideration are Simmons(coming off injury), Conerly and Ersery.

PFF have a grade called "True Pass Set Pass Block Grade". This represents pass plays in which O Linemen actually have to drop back in pass protection so eliminates screens, RPOs etc. I realise we're not necessarily comparing like for like here - Charles Grant at William & Mary is not going up against the same level of completion as Will Campbell for example but I still think it's a useful indication of how good these linemen are at pass blocking. Cameron Williams fans might want leave now.

Wyatt Milum - 91.9
Grey Zabel - 88.2
Josh Simmons - 82.2 (Only 5 games)
Kelvin Banks Jnr - 79.9
Armand Membo - 79.9
Ozzy Trapilo - 78.2
Josh Conerly - 78
Jonah Savaiinaea - 77.8
Charles Grant - 76.7
Jack Nelson - 75.4
Will Campbell - 73.8
Chase Lundt - 68.6
Marcus Mbow - 66.4
Aireontay Ersery - 63.6
Cameron Williams - 55.7
Donovan Jackson - 46 (To be fair, he was switched from LG to LT mid season to cover for Josh Simmons' injury).

Watched him against Indiana and Ohio State. Flawless as a pass blocker against Indiana and did fine against Ohio State albeit a couple of snaps against JT Tuimolau were a little ropey. And he's fine as a run blocker too although I'd like him to be a bit nastier when run blocking. I was fairly impressed but wasn't blown away.

My choices are yes or no AND maybe?

Never mind the no RLKAG thing.

Definitely RLKAG on this. I refuse to vote since this isn't an option.

On initial viewing I’m sceptical of Campbell in the top 5. Feels like more of a mid to late 1st rounder to me. I don’t like the idea of taking a guy who may end up at guard at 4. He’s a trade down candidate for me. Haven’t watched the other tackles yet so not sure where he stacks up but he ‘s not on the level of Carter, Graham or Hunter.

I’d be very curious to know how PFF calculated their grades. Here are the numbers for Will Campbell:

Will Campbell Career Stats

In summary:
- 38 games played.
- 2,546 snaps at LT
- 1,593 pass plays
- 3 sacks allowed (0.2%), so about 1 sack allowed every 500 pass plays, roughly 1 every 10 games

Those are insane numbers for someone playing in the SEC. I have not had the time yet to compare these to the numbers for Banks, Simmons, Ersery, Conerly, etc. but until I see them I’m not buying that he stacks up less well than any of them on the field (in college). It is hard to fathom that someone with these numbers could be judged to “lack the mobility and footwork to play tackle,” in fact they indicate the exact opposite.

The sad fact here, however, is that if his arms are less than 33 inches, he will JIMHO have a hard time making it at OT in the NFL. Above 33 inches and I think he’ll be top 15 and possibly top 10. I’m hoping for the best for the kid, irrespective of what happens on measurables, but unless his arms length surpasses the scuttlebutt I would not feel great about him as a top 5 pick for the Pats.

Campbell has elite movement skills. The only knock on him is arm length. Period.

If Simmons checks out at the combine than he'd be my one and only target in the 1st.

It’s a really bad year to need a tackle in the draft. If Joe Alt was in this draft, he’d be our slam dunk pick at 4.

No way am I picking Campbell or Banks at 4.

Trading our second round pick up into the 20’s for Conerly, Milum, or Ersery seems like the way to go. Otherwise, Campbell, Banks or Simmons would be options in the 10-15 range if we trade way back from #4.

RillaI think we've reached the point where we may need to start holding @Ian accountable. Why doesn't RLKAG or better yet RLKAG(P2) auto-populate when a poll is created?

WVU’s LT may be a steal.

Milum Wyatt. Or Wyatt Milum

And he’s got the highest pff rating as a drop back pass blocker.

This may not be the draft to draft LT with our first pick. Unlike last year, decent prospects may be had in the second or even third rounds.

Maybe don’t be as obvious this time like last year with your Blake Fisher love, Eliot

Remember how Dante scouted Joe Thuney at NCState? Did it surreptitiously.

Try it.

See my other reply to you re Milum. Have you watched Marcus Mbow yet? He's a fun watch too.

Yeah. What an awful Purdue team this year. But he was a bright spot. His athleticism looks great, but his arms look short. Really short. Guard or center.

He will have the opportunity to open teams’ eyes in the Senior Bowl.

Yeah I have him as an interior guy too.
