I do understand, and there is no question we would need a more savvy and professional bunch of WR's if McD were to play the same scheme with the same expectations of players now with Drake Maye as he did with Brady and a group of receivers with experience in his system, as Brady (generally!) had. I think McD has demonstrated more than he gets credit for that he can adapt his scheme to his personnel, and broadening and/or simplifying what he does has been a personal point of emphasis for him as, with time on his hands, he has contemplated how to update his approach. I have great faith in intelligence generally, and I think he is a very bright man. His people skills are not up to snuff, evidently, as his HC record indicates, but I see no evidence there or elsewhere that he is not a very effective OC.
i do understand your point and tend to agree with your arguments but I prefer continuity on the offense system for such a young qb like Maye and i prefer some fresh blood and ideas from outside the organization

Fair enough. I am arguing, I think, against removing McD from consideration, as some would seem to prefer. I think he is an excellent candidate, but I don't think he's the only one. Unless they do something weirdly whimsical (and I don't really think Vrabel does whimsical), i won't complain if they choose someone else. I just see no reason to exlude Josh from consideration.

It's sort of nice to find ourselves in a position of choosing among hopeful alternatives after a season of wall-to-wall crap, ain't it?

Fire Wolfe.

A lot less when making a point.

But I liked your post despite the verbosity. .
"Verbosity". In Obi-Wan Kenobi's voice: "Now that's a word that I haven't heard in years."

TB12 would disagree

Of course he would, that’s his offense. This is a new era, with a new QB, who has already started to learn a pro offense. They shouldn’t make him start all over learning new language, new reads, and a new system.

The organization should do whatever gives them the best chance to win.

I think the whole "youcan'tfirethescoutingstaffthey'vebeenscoutingalltheplayersallyear!!!!!!" thing is overblown.
Honestly, how much better is any scouting staff than the Hudson News magazines?
If over the past four years the Patriots were required by ownership to draft one of the three players at the top of the Best Available lists from ESPN, CBS Sportsline, and Rich Gosselin or whatever, they would be far better off.

You take a scout from your former team, yeah, they can't bring all their notes and files to the new team, but that's sorta like when you move houses you don't forget all your favorite songs. You bring in a scout from Cleveland, Tennessee, whatever, and they can't remember which DE's they like best if they don't get to take their files?

And, as noted, Josh might be the best OC candidate who is least likely to receive another head coaching opportunity anytime soon.

Is he the best OC candidate or the best OC who won't leave in the next 2-3 years? The latter shouldn't matter. You should sign the best candidate period. You cannot be concerned about whether he leaves in a couple years or not. These are the most important development years of Maye. You give him the best person to develop him. You don't worry what is going to happen at OC in two or three years.

The good head coaches are developing the replacements for their coordinators all the time. I mean Vrabel lost LaFleur to Green Bay after only one year and moved onto Arthur Smith and his offense didn't miss a beat.

If Ben Johnson could come here as the OC, but you knew he would take a head coaching job in two years would you take him or McDaniels?
