The Official Vrabel vs Ben Johnson Discussion Thread

I'm a little leary about KC. They haven't exactly been drafting great, but that may be a product of #1 always picking last and #2 looking for homeruns since the roster is so talented. Also they've been trading picks for vets.

Sounds familiar.
I think Leach has been OK. He hit on Rice and Worthy at WR. McDuffie at CB and seems to be drafting 2-4 starters every year.

I also think he does a good job with FA and trades.

To your point, drafting at the bottom of rounds makes it more difficult.

They need a TE. That you can knock him on. They need their next Kelce.

Agreed. I don’t get all the McDaniels hate on this board

I don’t hate MacDaniels, I hate changing systems, and I hate the E-P offense. If MacDaniels ends up being OC I’ll live with it, but I still hate that f*cking offense.

Great coaching hire. Most important is to get the right players on both sides of teh ball.
Great head start with Maye as QB.
I want Wolf and Groh gone.
The whiff on McConkey is a fireable offense as far as I am concerned because it was a no brainer.

i hope Mike uses his leverage to bring in who he wants as GM.
I am pretty sure he would have negotiated for this with Kraft

Me neither. Josh is a damn good OC and very good with young QBs.

The issue I have with Josh being OC here is he is an EP guy and Maye has already been baptized in the West Coast offense.

This will take a minimum of 2 years to turn around to the point of competing for playoffs.
Same success criteria for 2025 season as I had for Mayo last year

1. Improve over the course of the season
2. Not concerned about wins and losses
3. Players in all three phases show signs of improvement
4. Tough team
5. No quitting even when things going badly
6. Players should keep their mouths shut
7. Do not say dumbass stuff to media
8. Be aggressive with getting talented players
9. Take some risks!!!!!

He's good, I just don't want the EP back. In the current league, there isn't as much of an incentive to run a complicated offense that could ice out talented receivers because they didn't learn it. Maye is doing well in the WCO. I don't see the point in taking that away and risking him not picking up the EP quickly

Aside from fixing the culture and roster, priority #1b for Vrabes is not to **** with Drake Maye's development.

Changing coaches is a risk but changing systems is a major risk.

They have drafted a lot of WRs high and finally hit on 2, but given Rice's personal troubles and the really bad double ACL / MCL tear, he's now a question. From the point of view of personnel, he's a big hit.

Mecole Hardman, Skyy Moore, and a few others, not so much.

As a fellow Greek, I actually root for Karlaftis, but a guy his size should not be getting blasted off the edge against the run so often. Karlaftis is the KC version of Keion White.

I actually believe that they will be in the hunt for a WC spot in December 25’, but that’s primarily because you don’t need a winning record to get those last spots, you can be 5-8 or 6-7 and be in that hunt.

This comment by Bruschi is going to go down in Patriots lore and it will be the subject of many arguments on Patsfans. He's not getting this from Vrabel, he's getting it either from reporters or Belichick's people.

Who is the target? Jonathan Kraft or Eliot Wolf. One or the other.

Agree completely. The people acting like it’s no big deal are way off base. Offensive systems are inherently complicated. They all have different language, different reads, and different emphases. The NFL is difficult enough for any young QB, and changing offensive systems on them is really bad idea. And one of the advantages of running a West Coast offense is that so many teams use it that if you change head coaches you have many more options at OC than you would with E-P, as only a few teams run that system.

No matter how this ends I hope that the Krafts and Fans know it will take more than one year to rebuild this team, probably longer if Wolf does the shopping..
Have been behind Vrabel since the beginning.. but as much as Wolf is defended(heard Breer talk about how the Krafts still like him) he was very much part of our demise last year. They left something like $30 million on the table last year in Cap Money..
Not sure that Vrabel will give Wolf a very long leash..
(Edit) looks like the Pats and Vrable have an arrangement.. great news. Go Mike..
So many people talk about being patient with a new hire and not wanting him gone after a year, like with Mayo.

I doubt I am the only one whose main issue with things not going well under Mayo, was that he was an unqualified, half-assed, poorly thought out hire.

As bad as he was this season, the Krafts put the succession clause in his contract five years ago, when he was even less qualified.

There was no good reason to hire Mayo as HC, and no reason to expect him to become a good head coach. We needed to cut our losses.

That is totally different than hiring Vrabel, who has a track record and been a successful head coach.

Back to back six when seasons gets you fired in the NFL.
****ty ownership, ****ty front office, and ****ty GM will get you fired. Which is what happened. Come on man, a huge contract to washed up Malcolm Butler and Tannehill? Trade away AJ Brown? How did all that work out. Get on board or jump ship

Over the last few weeks BB has repeated that Robert, Jonathan and Robyn Glazer are the decision makers. Vrabel was the best choice simply because he has the attitude to push for what he wants and the credibility to get get his way. The downside is that he may step on too many toes on along the way to stay for a 20 year run.

Zoom is very limited.
Welcome to the brave new world. Online interviews and conferences happen all the time. Obviously, videos of facilities (even taken that day) can be part of the interview/conference call.

FROM WIKI

No, online HC (Human Capital) interviews do not have to be conducted on Zoom; while Zoom is a popular platform for virtual interviews, other video conferencing tools like Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Skype, or even dedicated recruitment platforms can be used depending on the company's preference and the interviewer's choice.

Key points to remember:
  • Variety of options:
Many different video conferencing platforms exist beyond Zoom, allowing companies to choose based on their existing infrastructure and needs.

  • Check the invitation:
Always check the interview invitation to see which platform the company will be using for the interview.

  • Technical readiness:
Ensure you have the necessary software installed and are familiar with the platform before the interview.

I'm hoping that by hiring him, they understand that they need a guy like him, a passionate, knowledgeable coach who always has the team's best interests at heart. I ain't gonna be around for 20 more years, I'm a geezer already, but I sure hope Mike is. He's exactly who they need, IMHO
