He'll already have Drake so we'll be good

Having the QB isn't developing the QB.

Meanwhile, don't forget that he is barely above .500 and missed the playoffs in half of his NFL career while only winning a couple playoff games in one of his postseason appearances.

I legitimately think there isn't enough time in this era for QB's to develop to make the most of Josh's system.
I see your point. The whole MP new offense was chartered with making it easier for players to learn after years of nuance and complications added by the hive mind of Brady and JMD. Edelman was probably the last WR that really got it. His work with Mac and Cam show that he can tune the offense to the QB. The coaching decision will come down to old school vs new school. Either way the quality of coaching is about to elevate.

I don't really care.

I will have more fun with Ben Johnson.

That should be enough for Patriot's Nation.
I love the enthusiasm, please pump the brakes a little. We have a potential top 5 QB, I don't want to have so much fun that I wake up three seasons from now wearing someone else's cloths and the team is no where near the playoffs. LOL.

EDIT: this is not a comment on Johnson, he seems like a great option.

Todd Hailey made it to the playoffs with Cassell and Cassell had his best statistical year under Hailey as well.

Cam Newtown was a former MVP at the end of his career.

Mac benefited from a rookie campaign in which DC didn't have enough game film on how to stop him. Once they got enough footage he was ruined. Has happened to plenty of QBs over the years. Either they learn how to improve on their weaknesses or flame out.

That Denver team was coached by Jim Fox that won a playoff game with Tebow. McDaniels went 4-12 his second and last season in Denver
Agreed. There are two sides to the coin. Not like Mayo where it is all bad. Very hard to be a superstar coach in the NFL, especially as a coordinator. McDaniels is above average.

That is the main point.

I like Johnson because he is a heavy Xs and Os guy, the opposite of Mayo. But if Vrabel has Xs and Os guys as coordinators, then that probably works too. Either way we are better off.

Yeah but he didn't have Brady for any of that so he's even better than Bill

I don't think anyone doesnt want him but recognise it's the riskier option.
It's really not though. A coach who recently got fired getting a second shop has about the same likelihood of success as any first time headcoach. For every Belichick and Reid there's a McDaniels, Gruden, Pederson, Ryan who were as bad or worse on the second go around.

Vrabel isn't the safer choice, he's the more "known" choice.

How can Kraft triple down on defensive first coaches given how badly the last 6 years have gone?

Bill didn't forget his to do his job. The league changed. It doesn't work that way anymore.

You need to be able to consistently put up 25 plus points.

I don't think Vrabel philosophy can do it.
Because Kraft's an 83 year old man and old people are resistant to change. He's done things the same way for 30 years and now it stopped working and he's scared of going outside his comfort zone. It's why he could simultaneously recognize he needed to move on from Bill and then still wanted a guy who learned under Bill as both a player and a coach and wanted to have the same front office and staff.

It's why I think he'll ultimately get gun shy and just pick Vrabel and pass up on this opportunity. And it's another example of this franchise being archaic and not being able to move forward.

I like Maye a lot, but people really need to pump the breaks on the idea that he's a shoe in elite QB. He's showing a ton of promise, but he has things to work on, and the sophmore slump when people learn you tendencies and you need to overcome it is a real thing. You can't judge a QB's viability 1 year in. Consistency is everything with that position. Any QB can have a good year and plenty have had amazing rookie years.

I hope beyond hope that Maye is the guy, but people are taking things for granted on this way too much.

If Vrabel gives us a 6 win and 5 win season over the next two years which really is where it's heading without major roster improvement, we're gonna be doing this all over again.

But hey. It's not like I was right last year or anything.

One man show so far. Get him an OL and someones to throw to and watch the magic happen.

You're like Charlie Casserly

I'm not sure why it's personal with you.

I'll come collecting my flowers when Vrabel is shoved out the door because he couldn't bring us back the the island of relevancy.

For that it starts with multiple playoff appearances and a win.

I think Vrabel is called the "safer choice" by people cause we know he's not going to be completely overwhelmed by being a head coach since he's already done it, it doesn't mean he's going to be any more successful though.

I personally think Mike Vrabel is a good culture builder and more likely to build a consistent Steelers like team but you have to question his offensive philosophy in the modern NFL and we know Ben Johnson has that but we don't know how he can lead men we know he can call plays so he is much more risky for someone like Kraft and a fanbase who's angry at what he's allowed his franchise to become because if it goes bad he's going to be firing another coach in 2 years but in my opinion he's more likely to become the best coach in football than Vrabel but also more likely to be Adam Gase 2.0.

So i expect him to go safe since the Patriots have been obsessed with "Patriot ties", i just hope the interview process is genuine and if they come away from the interview thinking Johnson is the best candidate they hire him.

I must be the only fan who hates watching bad defense more than I hate watching bad offense. I take very little pleasure in watching my team throw the ball all over the field when they are down 17 points and can't stop the run.

You're getting ready to take receipts for the failure of a coach we may or may not hire that's why
