Did he accept a request to interview with the Jags?

Regarding the "don't hire a rookie head coach" theory:

You do understand that at some point, every head coach in the history of sports was a rookie head coach, correct?

With that logic the NFL would be having to lure Jeff Fisher, Marvin Lewis, Hue Jackson and David Shula out of retirement in just a few years.

More importantly, hire a competent, experienced person to be President of Football Operations to oversee the entire football side of the corporation. That will help any head coach - especially a rookie HC - immensely.

Missing out on the 1 may cost us Johnson over the Bears or Jags.
Johnson likely will take the Bears job.. he knows them well and they have a stacked offense. The Bears are literally a coach away from being a playoff team. DJ Moore, odunze, Allen, komet..

Jags have Balke and Lawrence has been disappointing. Balke is a HUGE negative this coaching cycle and there is more upside to Maye.

Really it's between us and the Bears for Johnson.
...and if Kraft is OK taking Agnew w/ Johnson and pushing Wolf out the door then it might be a done deal.

Ryan Poles got his start w/ Pioli at KC but Reid kept him and worked his way up. Johnson and Poles have no connections except they were both GAs at BC but missed each other.

Usually hiring a rookie coach would be fine but after the dumpster fire with Mayo not so sure

I'm leaning in that direction as well.

My biggest apprehension with Johnson is we are going from one rookie HC to another. No one knows how a HC will fair until they are in the role. With that said I think Johnson is smart, innovative, and ready as anyone can be for the job. He's paid his dues unlike Mayo.
Yeah, both rookie HCs, but apples to oranges when comparing Mayo’s and Johnson’s resumes.

Unlike with BB when there was no other competing candidate, THIS choice will either give Kraft a lot of credit or a lot of blame.

Johnson loves Maye and has Massachusetts roots though

Caley should be on Vrabel's short list of OCs when the Pats hire Vrabel (I agree it is a forgone conclusion he will be head coach). Learning from McVay is invaluable. Caley is in charge of the Rams' passing offense right now.
And let's find more ex-patriots to run the defense. NOT!

Kraft has no option but to spend. He has to follow the cap rules that say you have to spend to the cap minimum over a four year period. He underspent big time last year so he has a reserver that must be spent in order to comply to the cap rules.
Absolutely correct. They actually even had a carry over of cap space into this off season. They will spend for sure.

I FULLY entrust Vrabel to run the Patriots defense. That is one part of the team Mayo failed at miserably.

I may want the Pats over the Bears because the Bears do have talent, but is it talent that fits the system? Are old enough that they won't be past their prime or demanding high contracts by the time they are good? There is an advantage of having a clean slate as long as Kraft is willing to spend.
I also much prefer Maye over Williams.

Williams’ makeup concerns me.

Maye was my top QB choice last year.

Wouldn’t Johnson also find a role for Milton and help his development?

Milton in gadget plays would cause nightmares for opposing DCs.

I hear baalke might retire and he is just there for transition.

The only thing negative for jags might be possible negative feeling of BJ towards Lawrence. If he feels he is a great prospect stymied by poor coaching , there is absolutely no reason to reject jags.

If... he took the job. We'd have to load up the offense. What he has to work with in Detroit outside of Drake in NE isn't even comparable.
He could eventually get us there though.

I wouldn't want Caley if he didn't have two years of being under McVay. He is part of the McVay tree now. That is a good thing.

I am against them bringing back McDaniels. That is a prevailing rumor or speculation if Vrabel is hired. That is moving backwards.

I share @RobertWeathers concerns. If he comes in with a "this is going to be my staff" and has some real meat to it, then yeah. If he comes in and needs his hand held picking out coordinators, position coaches and all that, then no, we've seen that movie, even if he's a great offensive mind.
I am pretty sure Ben Johnson has spent the last couple years building out a full plan of what he will do when he takes a job. He's had a lot of time to think about it.

You guys won't have to continue to ***** and whine about WRs if this guy gets the job, that's for sure. He's going to bring in WRs who can play.
