I may want the Pats over the Bears because the Bears do have talent, but is it talent that fits the system? Are old enough that they won't be past their prime or demanding high contracts by the time they are good? There is an advantage of having a clean slate as long as Kraft is willing to spend.

I love Mike Vrabel but I am leaning towards Ben Johnson. The Krafts really did their due diligence.

I honestly can't remember an HC candidate as hyped as Ben Johnson is this year. The closest I can think of is Andy Reid when he got let go from Philly. Anybody remember others?

Bienemy was the hot name du jour for a while, but he must have been a lousy interview, because that lost steam.

That would be a bad move. Johnson might be the Josh McDaniels of this decade.
He's in a great situation. Certainly an offensive wiz. But, who knows if he can manage the political side and run an entire team?

Pats should NOT be looking to give another young coordinator his first crack to find out.

Vrabel is the solid choice while Ben Johnson may be the boom or bust pick.

Nick Caley...McDaniels OC disciple is currently there.

He's not ready yet. McVey gave him passing game coordinator job in addition to TE coach after Caley turned down Pats OC job. His next step is OC. Maybe he'd reconsider the Pats under Vrabel, but he'd be a flight risk to the next step after a few years if successful.

Why will Ben Johnson choose us over bears or jags.

Jags -- great weather, no taxes, lots of foundational pieces , very easy division.

The only draw I see for us is if Johnson views Maye as a top 5 QB in league and wants an empty canvas on which he can paint whatever he wants and give the thrill of working in a start-up. There is too much to do for us here. Saving grace - we have huge cap space, but sadly free agents class is not great. Unless she wants to cement his legacy as the coach who won a Superbowl by inheriting mess created by Bill and mayo. That's a huge leg up.

Bienemy wasn't really a hot name more than a bunch of media heads were outraged that a black OC who was leading one of the best offenses of this era kept getting passed over. We wasn't really the "got have him coach" more the "I can't believe nobody is interested"

That's how I see it. I'm thinking about running an entire team. Yes Johnson is a wonderful offense mind. But I think about someone who will reset the culture, structure and make guys accountable.

I think this is what is gonna happen.

Ben Johnson is going to go to jaguars

• Easy division
• Players already in place
• Trevor Lawrence - top 15 QB, equal or better than Goff
• Great ownership

Vrabel has communicated internally I presume, that he would put the patriots job as 1st priority unless Krafts don't take any action.

So now to satisfy Rooney rule, interview Flores, Saleh or Brian flores.might be better to interview Saleh and other fired coaches to get kickstart on the timing.

I hope Vrabel has a proper plan towards building coaching tree on both sides and also holistically looks at existing coaches who can be retained. Sometimes you don't need to uproot the entire tree.

Springer needs to be retained while AVP and McCartney would be nice to have to maintain continuity while covington might need to be let go .

I'm leaning in that direction as well.

My biggest apprehension with Johnson is we are going from one rookie HC to another. No one knows how a HC will fair until they are in the role. With that said I think Johnson is smart, innovative, and ready as anyone can be for the job. He's paid his dues unlike Mayo.

There are different levels to being a rookie. Mayo is like a kid declaring for the draft as a High School junior where he wasn't even a very impressive high schooler. Ben Johnson is like a guy who went to college, killed it, and is atop everyone's mock drafts.

Not all rookie HCs have the same experience and prior success level.

Jags have Balke and Lawrence has been disappointing. Balke is a HUGE negative this coaching cycle and there is more upside to Maye.

Really it's between us and the Bears for Johnson.

Kraft has no option but to spend. He has to follow the cap rules that say you have to spend to the cap minimum over a four year period. He underspent big time last year so he has a reserver that must be spent in order to comply to the cap rules.

I share @RobertWeathers concerns. If he comes in with a "this is going to be my staff" and has some real meat to it, then yeah. If he comes in and needs his hand held picking out coordinators, position coaches and all that, then no, we've seen that movie, even if he's a great offensive mind.
