I like your thinking. Trading down is a good idea if we can get a good deal.As of tonight, with the #4 pick in the draft, I would trade down, multiple times, for picks both this year and next year... Then I would use my first pick this year, wherever it lands, on either UTexas LT Kelvin Banks or Ohio State LT Josh Simmons, provided measurements/medicals check out positively on each of them, respectively. Even if we sign Cam Robinson from the Vikings, we still need to have young, cheap talent in the pipeline to help protect The Franchise's blind side; and we have NOBODY in the building currently fitting that description.
One out of the box pick to consider- Ashton Jeanty. He can be a big receiving threat in addition to his incredible running back skills. I am pretty sure he will go top 10, so he would have to be the pick over a WR or OL. He is discounted because of the position and he is a bit on the small size. But I have seen what Saquon Barkley did for the eagles and Gibbs did for Lions.
His talent is undeniable. he averaged 191 yards per game rushing and came close to breaking Barry Sanders record.
It has been a long time since Patriots have had a top tier running back who can also catch passes out of backfield.
Jeanty would be like James White on steroids......
