1. can not blame Mayo. He is supposed to try to win games.
2. Mayo has loyalty to the players and that is not a bad thing
3. he did what he was told and only played Maye one series
4. the strong performance from Milton was completely unexpected and was a huge reason they won the game. Not a bad thing for Milton or the organization. They found out he might be a keeper at backup qb for next year
5. If you want to blame anyone, blame the bills for basically throwing the game
6. The Bills earned the right to do whatever they wanted to in that game BUT
7. They crossed a line with some of the incentive ********- Punting from the pats 35 to get their punter a bonus incentive??? that impacted the score and perhaps the game
8. The pats players played hard and who can blame them??? they do not get any direct benefit from losing but for some future opportunities were at stake.
9. Both KC and Buffalo harmed other teams with their bs performances and hope Karma bites them both in the ass
10. Overall Kraft put Mayo in a terrible position by hiring him when he was completely unqualified. He sucked...not a big surprise. The fan anger should be directed at the Krafts for owner malpractice. No interview process was a disgrace.
11. I wish Mayo future success. Good guy, very good pats player just not HC material.
12. Can the NFL do something about the sham games on week 17? A few ideas:
- award bonus draft picks or salary cap space for any team that wins the last one or two games
- draft lottery for teams not making the playoffs
- Have other incentives on week 17 for teams to win (e.g. extra home game in 26, boost in waiver wire order)

Goodell talks about the "integrity of the game"

any other ideas for how to stop the week 17 bs?...the Chiefs performance was a disgrace

Probably nothing they can do. It should be incentive enough to not be in a position to count on "help" from other teams to not tank their last game. The worst thing that could have happened to the Bills and Chiefs was an injury to someone that mattered a lot and they did whatever it took to come out of their unscathed. What happened to the Pats is our coaches decided to open up the playbook for the first time this season for whatever reason and the Bills B team wasn't expecting that. I don't remember seeing a lot of RPO's or exotic plays until yesterday.

Draft lottery is a great idea but the NFL won't do it. They would hate to acknowledge the idea that teams will tank for draft position like in other leagues. The NHL makes the lottery an event and there's no league better than the NFL in making anything an event - like the draft itself. I guess one way to stop tanking is having a lottery in a non weighted way with the bottom X teams getting one "ball" each in the lottery but then there's a much better chance that bad teams would stay bad for a lot longer because there are mid teams getting rewarded with the 1OA pick instead.

I'm on the fence regarding the idea of instituting an NBA-style draft lottery.

Positives include the fact the elimination of a guaranteed #1 pick by tanking; bad teams don't get penalized for still trying hard down the stretch, nor do they get penalized for beating a playoff team playing third stringers while the starters are cocooned in bubble wrap. It's weighted, so the worst teams still have the highest probability of the top pick(s). Another positive is that a team cannot drop more than four places, so the club that finished the season with the worst record, #1 in the current draft order, is going to drop no further than to #5. That hurts that team a little bit, but it's not awful.

On the other hand, while minute, any team that did not make the playoffs could conceivably get the #1 pick. Applied to the 2024 standings, 10-7 Seattle or 9-8 Cincinnati could wind up with the #1 draft pick. I'm not convinced that is a good thing.

As for games like the Chiefs-Broncos - while I agree that is an issue - I don't see any method where you can fix that. You can't tell a #1 or #2 seed that they have to keep their starters in the game, and then watch as a key player or two suffers a season-ending injury. The cure would be worse than the disease, as the saying goes.

apart from the draft lottery I agree with everything you said.

I will add that the Patriots cannot tank and blatantly lose the game at risk of Goodell punishing them for conduct detrimental to the game or some other bs

Can't say I'm not somewhat disappointed about the pick... but having the Elephant in the room Mayo gone is good enough for me.

I am still sick after this disgraceful win
Without any doubt the worst ever i remember

This was a must lose game... simply

It would have been a GREAT offseason having it plus a new staff

Instead ... Awful ugly...

I think top 5 draft picks should be in a lottery for first 3 rounds and once you get a 1,2 or 3 you will not get it again .

Make wins in last 4 games carry an extra point . So it incentivizes teams to play even harder down the stretch . So teams with momentum down stretch get better chances to go to playoffs .

And what buffalo did yesterday was a disgrace, with Mike White purposefully throwing throws that sail over a receiver and making sure it's either uncatchable or will be intercepted . We are to blame , but doesn't make them blameless. The fans atvtwobiklsdrive are laughing at us, rightfully so.

Wish them all the bad luck and karma to hit them as they get eliminated in first round of playoff.

Will root for lions and chargers/ ravens to meet up.

It will force them to make Good picks and be more aggressive in FA. Remember we have Two Third Rounders.

How do you lose the game if the bills also want to lose the game without making it obvious that you are trying to lose the game for a draft pick. No way to do that

This fanbase has really gone downhill. So much whining because another team didn't do something that harmed themselves to help the Pats. Stop expecting others to solve your problems. Teams have been sitting their starters since the NFL existed.

Also, people who think Mike White.. Mike White.. was purposefully sailing balls. He's a practice squad QB and a bad one. This place has become unhinged over 3 draft spots. Outside of 2 non-awful games with the Jets.. he always looks like this.

#4 was the risk because Milton has the talent to do what he did.

#7 was unacceptable and the league should take action. If it was the Pats they would have been punished.

its a message board...its not all unicorns and ponies
punting from the 35 was the most blatant act of trying to lose a game I have seen in many years

That attitude is aided and abetted by Sportstalk radio who have incessantly whined about Mayo for weeks now, I seldom listen any more as they thrive on nontroversies. Tuned in last week on "Flagship Station of the Patriots" and heard that loudmouth Bertram encouraging all those who attend the game chant "Fire Mayo"... WTF every happened to team loyalty??
I'm old school(fan since the 60's) always have been and always will be loyal to the Pats even during the bad times..

Yesterday's game is why the NFL needs to move away from having division games to end the season.

For every lions v Vikings game that looks good on paper you have a dozen games of teams not playing for anything and literally playing to lose.

The NFL knew they was giving the Bills a bye to end the season when they made the schedule.

Eh Mike White is a terrible QB so for all we know he might have tried to complete those throws...hard to say.

I saw those throws and those were real easy throws and looked to be purposefully overthrown. There was no pressure on whites face as he made those throws. Any backup QB could make those throws.

Mike White did have multiple 300 yard games for jets.

This whole thing is a really interesting conversation. As I think about it I actually don't think this would be such a horrible thing. We keep seeing horrible teams draft in the top 3 over and over again. These teams are often horrible because they are dysfunctional, not necessarily less talented. They then proceed to ruin these top college players, and they stay bottom feeders for decades.

Allowing for the possibility of 2nd or 3rd tier teams to get high picks would actually make the league more competitive. In these cases, that top 3 player would be going into excellent situations and would not be under immediate pressure to produce. If the player is ready to contribute (more likely to happen in a well-run environment) the Cincy's and Seattles of the league are suddenly true contenders. And the best players out of college are more likely to have productive careers.

Meanwhile, these dysfunctional teams would actually have some motivation to change the way they do things instead of just relying on a top 5 pick year after year. So these teams would be forced to get better as well, improving the parody of the league at all levels.

Just stick to the usual run the ball on first and second down, and then have milton stand in the pocket instead of running around improvising.

No to the lottery idea. Ive seen the celtics screwed out the #1 pick at least once maybe twice when the had the worst record. The lottery has done them no favors over the years
