Scarnecchia survived several HC changes. It's important to retain at least one or more assistants who have some player knowledge if they're capable coaches.
New coaches were probably afraid to fire Scar.

Technically your right
But none of those guys are the GM
Obviously they fired Mayo so they will be hiring a new HC
I do believe it will be Vrabel with an outside chance of Johnson
I think either of them will want to work with a GM that they know they can work with
Until Kraft knows he must hire a new GM you leave the existing one in place
There is no need to fire him now. He’s getting paid
When /if the time comes then you move on
I mean, technically Wolf's not the GM either.
And when I say his job's covered by Highsmith, I mean he could be gone right now and they wouldn't miss anything.

You're right though, there's no need to fire him until they know who's coming in in the meantime as far as a coach, but conversely, Wolf was so bad this year, and had such a big hand in the last few drafts as well, that his continued presence might be seen as detrimental.

Groh's job, unfortunately, isn't really covered by anyone else, so he would probably have to stay until a new administration came in. That's not really the case with Wolf.

Rees takes concepts from everything, really a modern offense fusing lots of concepts together - which will really be something more akin to a college-style offense, but did work in Cleveland under the WCO concepts, so that's a plus. Honestly, that's ****ing fine with me. I'd love it if they kept McCartney on for continuity as well (and considering how the QBs played, would be worth keeping).

Cowden's also kind of whatever, been around for a while, not a nepo kid, mixed track record with the Titans and Panthers before the Giants, nothing horrible. He did have Darnold and Mayfield on the same roster before their ownership collapsed there, so there's that.

I think Highsmith will stay on in some form for continuity's sake, and because I think Jonathan trusts him.

In other words, fine. It will be a real NFL program, at least, and not some mish-mash hybrid of nepo-kids and people who went to Israel with Bob. Also, there will be full staffs, not the understaffed nightmare we've had here for decades.

Vrabel would be smart to keep Springer on too, they lucked out finding that guy.

I'd also like to see the 3 assistants here with actual NFL experience coaching their respective positions - RBs, TEs & yes even DL - have an opportunity to interview for keeping their jobs...

Curran obviously thinks this is a bit drastic

He also tore Eliot Wolf a new one during the pre-game show when asked for his thoughts on Wolfie's comment about "internal development" a couple of days ago... He wasn't wrong for doing so either.

Well, hopefully the Krafts will have learned their lesson and hire people with actual proven coaching experience.
Mayo didn't stand a chance, I know he did not handle himself well at times and some players mouthing off did not help, but the Krafts are the ones to blame for this mess. And please not Vrabel.

Agreed , it's easy to quote the well known cliche , they need to hire a coaching staff that has a blend of experience and youth to try and turn this around.

Glad the Krafts had the Guts...and applied the Mo "better a year early than a year too late".

Ben Johnson is my favorite but I wouldn't be upset with Mike Vrabel he has History with us. Also he worked his way up the HC ranks the conventional way and not the Mayo way.

Yeah, Bill proved he's as capable of putting up a 4-13 season as Mayo.
It'll be interesting if the new HC comes in and leads the team to a 4-13 record, just like the last two HCs have.
Bill would have excuses made for him and the new guy would be told to **** off, just like this one has been.
If I'm a HC or player I wouldn't want any part of this team.

Johnson has been in Detroit since before Campbell, so he has witnessed the makeover of the franchise.
Johnson was brought to Detroit by………..Matt Patrica.
He worked under Darrell Bevell and Anthony Lynn before becoming OC.
Before Detroit he spent 6 years in Miami under Philbin and Gase and a lot of OCs.
So he has 12 years in the NFL working with 4 different HCs and a number of OCs and multitudes of assistants. There should be no issue with him having connections.
The advantage of Johnson is that he'd be the defacto OC so no risk of having to change offensive system if the OC gets hired away. This assumes the team is winning of course.

This kind of situation defines the joke that is the Rooney rule. Some poor coach is going to have to be trotted out just for the sake of it. If I were a coach of color, I wouldn’t even make the trip without some kind of huge compensation.

Can we interview Covington for HC?

Big agree on Springer, hopefully he is kept. New HCs do keep the existing ST Coordinator fairly often if they’re good. They really did get lucky with him, he’s surprisingly great. I think he will be an HC eventually.

He also could have had them run the ball right up the middle on 1st and 2nd downs then a half ass pass play then punt it, especially once Buffalo got the lead. It was easy as pie...and he ****ed that up too.

Nah, worst coach I have ever seen.
yup, play calling said it all, he wanted to win

The Commanders went from 4 - 13 in 2023, to 12 - 5 in 2024. The new HC would have to insist on bringing his own GM, and spending the cap dollars, and after that, with Maye in his 2nd year, it is a layup to win 6 to 8 games. Very easy turnaround situation. 2 reasonable years of drafting, and good FA signings, and the Pats are a playoff team.
