His statement said exactly what I said a couple weeks ago - Mayo tricked him into it. Mayo was only getting interviews from other teams to check off their "Rooney Rule" requirements, but Mayo spun it to Kraft like he was a big hot commodity and he was going to leave if he didn't get any "assurances", so Kraft sealed his ascendancy into his contract to keep him here.Kraft was utterly delusional about Mayo. Unbelievable.
He will be lucky if he ever even gets a DC positionThat and taking off his blue pin.
Owners are not going to rush out to hire a failed HC and BS artist as the front of their franchise.
Mayo can make a living being interviewed by teams to comply with the Rooney rule.
He might even set the record for interviews without being hired.
That’s something that sounds like a joke, but is definitely not a joke when considering this owner. Mayo was such a monumental error nothing can be assumed.
And that was a football evaluation decision from Kraft because he doesn't really understand what is going on when it comes to coaching the game. He just assumes anyone can do it.Turns out Kraft did Mayo a disfavor when he promised him the HC position five years ago in an attempt to keep him from going elsewhere as an assistant.
The teams that interviewed him last year seem to think he can.My question about Ben Johnson: everyone is high on him because of what he's done as Detroit's OC, but what suggests he can run an entire program? Just four seasons ago he was a position coach. I think at this point it needs to be someone with proven HC experience who can do a lot of heavy lifting.
We were NEVER going to pick #1. You want it so you can leverage it. There's always going to be some team that doesn't have a QB, that NEEDS to come away with a QB or their fans will riot and that fell in love with someone during pre draft build up and convinced themselves they need him. The reality is we could have probably made a move where we trade with someone who is 3 overall so they can jump whoever is 2 and get their QB, then we still get the best non QB and get like a 2nd and a 1st next year.No player in this draft is #1 pick worthy. I do not think going from 1-4 in this draft is as devastating as it would have been last year
Definitely a fair question, and I think getting someone with experience is even more important now after the Mayo debacle to "right the ship". But having said that, Johnson has been a hot candidate for at least a couple years and I am guessing he has most likely been writing up plans and concepts for what he will do once he eventually takes a position. He's not just a young upstart neophyte/1 year wonder. My question about Ben Johnson: everyone is high on him because of what he's done as Detroit's OC, but what suggests he can run an entire program? He is well qualified with a lot of real world experience. Curran has been lonely without his buddy. He can become media now. They get paid to say one thing before saying the exact opposite.
Speaking of Curran, pour one out for that guy. With Mayo fired, he officially has zero team sources. He is well qualified with a lot of real world experience. Curran has been lonely without his buddy.
I had read 3.5 million a yearWhy would he need to be "bought out", usually HCs keep getting their salary paid unless/until they get another gig. If it's another HC gig then their prior deal is canceled; if it's a lower role (OC/DC/etc) then the cash they make elsewhere is offset from their owed money on their terminated HC deal.
I am guessing Mayo won't get an HC or DC job anywhere so he will just get paid annually until his deal expires. Probably $3M to $5M a year for however many years (supposedly 4 more years if you believe Kay Adams' show)
No Daboll. He would not be here long enough.Vrabz and Daboll as his OC.
I agree with this, and I think he has been waiting for the right situation. What is needed is a coach who can not only assemble a staff, but can keep up high level coaching when his assistants get poached to other teams. Thats a very, very underrated ability and even Bill wasn't immune from it.Definitely a fair question, and I think getting someone with experience is even more important now after the Mayo debacle to "right the ship". Sanders has already slipped to 20s on some draft boards. Cam Ward is only qb possibly worth a top 3 pickWe were NEVER going to pick #1. You want it so you can leverage it. Why would Johnson want to come to NE ? I know Drake is promising, but the Krafts are weirdos, the stadium is getting older, the cupboard is bare, and the GM makes poor decisions. My question about Ben Johnson: everyone is high on him because of what he's done as Detroit's OC, but what suggests he can run an entire program? I’m sure he will. He’s proven that so far. I just hope we get some talent around him next year. He'll be alright.
