Agreed.

I wish they had fired him before the game and used an interim coach.

If they had done that we might have the #1 overall pick now.
No player in this very weak draft is #1 pick worthy. I do not think going from 1-4 in this draft is as devastating as it would have been last year

It’s impossible to tell because the teams that needed a QB are all at the top now.

How can they give Vrabel the job when they wouldn't even interview him last year?

How does that work?
Supposedly if they even interviewed anyone at all, that would have triggered Mayo's buyout clause and he would have been owed $10M immediately. Robert really ****ed himself with that contract.

He can become media now. They get paid to say one thing before saying the exact opposite.
Idk, the locals are pretty disgusted with him. I think he will hide out for a year while collecting his big bucks on his terminated deal from Kraft and then try to catch on as a LB coach somewhere else in 2026.

That was quick

This response from Kraft thanking Mayo for his efforts was a nice thing to say. It was very gracious and kind to Mayo. But this hire by Kraft was the worst in the league. I can only conclude this was a public relations move by Kraft to make himself look good. But this backfired. And several here in this forum thought Mayo's hire would backfire after listening to the very first press conference.

Last year's mistake started 4 years ago.
Yes. Making the promise was a grievous error. That’s clear.

It reminds me when President Teddy Roosevelt promised not to run for another term after he took over for the assassinated McKinley. He rued that as Kraft will.

Just add another year or two to the rebuild.

Yeah my point is that they should do interviews with guys virtually on other teams this week, but they still need to fulfill the Rooney Rule with IN-PERSON interviews and they won't be able to complete those with guys who are still in contention until their seasons end, or January 20th, whichever comes last.

So let's say they do 5 or 6 interviews and they're really sure about Vrabel - just complete the Rooney Rule required interviews and get the job started on filling his staff.

Conversely let's say they 5 or 6 interviews but Ben Johnson blows them away. They will then wait for him to be fully available to hire and they can take it slower with the other "required" interviews in the interim.

My question about Ben Johnson: everyone is high on him because of what he's done as Detroit's OC, but what suggests he can run an entire program? Just four seasons ago he was a position coach. I think at this point it needs to be someone with proven HC experience who can do a lot of heavy lifting.
