Goodie's probably already got a script for docking the Pats next several 1st round picks if Gruden comes in.
Good hell, we’d never be left alone if we hired Gruden. Rog would find a way to dissolve the franchise.

I think the funniest part of this off-season will be seeing what job Mayo gets elsewhere, if he can even get one.
Turns out Kraft did Mayo a disfavor when he promised him the HC position five years ago in an attempt to keep him from going elsewhere as an assistant.

Lol, the interview has to be in-person in order to meet the requirements. They can't do in-person interviews with employees of other teams until either January 20th OR the day after that employee's season has ended if they are still playing in the postseason by then. That is why I mention Saleh and Rivera, they are both available to hire now so should be able to meet in-person right away. I'd also give consideration to Saleh as a DC candidate, if I was Vrabel.

The Patriots should only be interviewing those they have interest in hiring.

If this is just Vrabel job and we're going through the red tape then it's already a ****ed start.

Do. Not. Make. Last. Years. Mistake. Again.

He gets paid to get those calls right.
Yeah but even Phil Ivey makes a bad call on the river every now and then. You dont can them after going 0/1

Pretty sure Stefanski wants to bring him back after ownership scapegoated him last year. Poor bastard.

They are basically moving on from Watson so probably want to get AVP back and bring back that QB magic from 2023 that got them to a playoff berth.

Pretty sure Stefanski is gone.

I don’t want Vrabel as HC no promise McDaniels is going to stay as a OC go after Ben Johnson.
We can "go after" whomever we like, but we can only hire those who want the job. I would certainly interview Johnson, but if says no thanks, that's it. I would say similar re the OC. I would interview a number of people, including McD. I would certainly solicit also the input of whomever you hire as HC with respect to ALL the hires, including GM.

I have little patience being dictated to by the Rooney Rule. Look at qualifications only.

That would be easier if the new GM were someone like Ray Agnew. Experience with the Rams in their heyday and now Detroit. Being a former Patriot makes it an easy sell.

Figure he remains in place until they see what candidates are interested and what they will want in order to accept the job. I highly doubt Wolf is standing in the way of hiring any specific coach.

They need a functioning front office in the interim because the draft evaluation process is ongoing. Also, someone like Wolf is needed to help implement the HC search process. That doesn't mean he can't eventually be replaced. If Vrabel is hired, chances are he brings Ryan Cowden along with him as GM.

How can they give Vrabel the job when they wouldn't even interview him last year?

How does that work?
I'd rather have Ben Johnson myself, if we're making choices here - but my point is, last year's mistake was set in motion four years ago. That's why Vrabel wasn't interviewed last year, and neither was anyone else.

Hopefully no re-tread goes to Israel with Kraft between now and the draft.

I think he was, that's why no pin worn, that's why the Kraft statement was ready to go. I think he wanted to change the narrative, until he fired Mayo all the talk would be negative and how bad everything is. I think it was planned, maybe we will find out from reports later. I think Mayo knew it was likely happening, and I think Kraft knew he knew.
Just glad it is done.
He just wasn't a good head coach and had little chance of becoming one without years more of NFL caching experience.
I think you’re missing the plot I’ve laid down, so I will be more explicit.

Sure Mayo knew. He knew it would be announced Monday. So he’s stewing before the game, and before he exits the tunnel, he rips off the pin and says F this, I’ll show you. He knew the implicit assignment, but coached against it, like the man-child he is. Kraft is enraged about the pin, enraged by the betrayal, and instead of waiting until Monday, pulls the trigger. Jonathan probably had to fight with him to wait as long as they did. That statement could have been ready days ago. Or ChatGPT could have a working draft in minutes and the human touches added in 45 minutes, if that.

Yeah my point is that they should do interviews with guys virtually on other teams this week, but they still need to fulfill the Rooney Rule with IN-PERSON interviews and they won't be able to complete those with guys who are still in contention until their seasons end, or January 20th, whichever comes last.

So let's say they do 5 or 6 interviews and they're really sure about Vrabel - just complete the Rooney Rule required interviews and get the job started on filling his staff.

Conversely let's say they 5 or 6 interviews but Ben Johnson blows them away. They will then wait for him to be fully available to hire and they can take it slower with the other "required" interviews in the interim.

Kraft needs to hire a football Czar or a actual department to conduct the search for Gm then let the GM pick the HC.
Wondering if old friends like Jon Robinson, Scott Pioli, or Thomas Dimitroff come on temporarily to help with the coaching search. Would assume (hope) Kraft wouldn't rely on his gut again and there is really no experience on the staff currently to conduct a search.

1. Talk to Vrabel in-person right away
2. Talk to Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn virtually tomorrow
3. Talk to Robert Saleh and Ron Rivera in-person after that to check off Rooney Rule and also get their perspectives
4. Do a couple other interviews mid-week virtually with playoff coordinators
5. Evaluate what you've learned end of week; if Vrabel is still your top guy then hire him right away and get a jump on building a staff
6. If BJ has blown you away (pun intended) then wait for him
7. If your chosen guy doesn't want Wolf then hire a GM above him and relegate Wolf to an assistant role instead of grocery-picker
8. Move Robyn Glazer to another division of the Kraft companies.
