The Case Against Eliot Wolf

We think they are cheap because they had the least cash spend of any NFL team over the last 10 years. When someone spends less than their 31 other peers, people call that cheap. You can call it historically cheap. Call it what you like, but don't pretend it is shrewd.

When you have the most cap in the league by a lot, the chances are you spent the least over the last number of years.

Most teams have spent it forward. I am glad we now have money to spend, instead of wasting it to be 6-11.

Kraft probably spent the most in the league on his head coach for two decades. He stepped up and paid McDaniels like almost a head coach when he was leaving. He also unfortunately probably did the same thing to keep Mayo.

So I don't agree with the knock.

Cap space today is based upon how much you spent recently, not historically.
And you can’t compare cap to cash like apples to apples.
Kraft has spent less cash by not giving out as much in signing bonus.
5 years 40 mill with 20 mill signing bonus and 1 mill first year hit is the same cap hit as a 1 year 5 mill contract. The cash is 21 mill vs 5 mill
You get very different players.

Kraft may have spent more on his HC but the staffs were small, many of the coaches were grunts working for peanuts, he hired people being paid by other teams. There was recent article that people come to NE from around the ledge and ask where all the people are. I think the total on player payroll so seems low. The patriots were excoriated in the league player survey for facilities and fringe benefits ranking at or near the bottom in most categories.

I don’t really think there is a sector be made the Kraft isn’t cheap, compared to the other 31 owners unless you take into account things that don’t help football but make him money like patriot place.

Did you look at the players union survey results? Worse facilities, lousy Moms and kids room, junk food? And that happened two or three years in a row. RK actually said he was unaware after the survey results had been published for over 12 months.

Did you see Bedard's latest article about last year's coaching candidates visiting Gillette and asking where the coaching staff was. Seems the Pats have one of the smallest, if not the smallest, football personnel groups in the NFL.

Q. Why does a billionaire drive his Bentley to a FL strip mall for a massage? A. Because he is shrewd.

Guaranteed up front $ is what guys want, and while I give grief about the number ,I get it.
They can be cut tomorrow .
Then you look at Watson...

We don't know ultimately who will make the final decision.

By Kraft, I mean Kraft(s), or perhaps the woman who whispers in his ear.

If a few weeks from now the team is Agnew/Johnson, what will you say? I doubt it will be. More likely Vrabel/Cleveland coach.

I think there are major moves.

ADDED: yeah he's an old guy and the facilities don't look so bad to him. My wife complains about the house, and I think it's fine.

Which facilities? The ones at Gillette, Orchids of Asia, or both?

Another huge miss by Wolf that no one talks about is that he could have traded for all pro WR Jerry Jeudy for the 4th rounder that was used to pick Layden Robinson

Big miss Elliot. No balls

Right Gillette probably looked state of the art to him.

I might also be on Team Idiot, but as they stand now, the Patriots could be the best open job in football, if they make the right moves.

So I'll wait a week.

I am on Team Idiot too.

But it is only the best job in football if they spend the cap space including void years. We found the QB, we can hire a professional front office and coaching staff, and after that, the Pats have to start burning cash. The QB and the burning cash are the most important.

Agreed.

But I didn't (don't) want this management team to be the ones to burn the cash.

So far they've been right about that, if they have been right about that.

I'm just an idiot and this is true.

Over the last 10 years.
Over the last 20 years.

Sorry, nope.

How long has Brady been gone? How long has it been since you can say the Patriots really had a decent offseason? I understand that Wolf much like Mayo probably hasn’t been dealt the best hand by ownership, however, it’s up to them to make the best of the situation. There’s no excuse to not have a real WR coach, let alone keep missing on WRs. Player evaluation is on Wolf. Selling the base on Cole Strange as a 1st rounder was absurd. They hit on Gonzalez Maye Barmore and Pop since Brady left. I’m probably missing one or two others but it’s time to really blow up everything and clean house of everyone.

While I get it that BB cast a long shadow, we need leadership, coaching, front office and ownership, that feels responsibility for the product on the field and is accountable for the results. Only the worst run teams draft in the top 5 two years in a row. If nothing changes, next year will be three years. Mean Bill is gone and the team has a franchise QB, it is time for everyone to focus on the here and now.

I don’t disagree with any of that, I’m completely focused on the draft and free agency, as well, but if certain posters try to put the blame for Jordan Richard’s and Aaron Dobson on Wolf I’m going to respond.

I realize Wolf was only 15 then, but that won’t stop them from trying.

How do you fire Wolf when he has been scouting for the 2025 draft all this season?

Do you fire him and bring in someone new starting over?

Of course you do, because his “scouting” ****ing SUCKS anyway.

Here’s the fact, Jack: Eliot Wolf ****ing SUCKS and deserves to be ****ing FIRED as in, like, ****ing YESTERDAY.

Can we blame him for:
Okorafor
Osborn
Polk
Baker
Wallace
Robinson
Takitaki
Tavai extension
Dugger extension
Onwenu extension
Stephenson extension

to name just the ones off the top of my head?
Can we blame him for all of those things which have been abject disasters?
Two or three of those moves over the course of a couple of years is enough to get your GM on the hot seat. ALL of those in ONE OFFSEASON?
